Brian is so gracious and humble, one of the best contestants ever. he is one of the few to kiss another contestant on the cheek, applaud when he lost; and talk about sharing his winnings with his mother. Clearly, she raised a very good son. Wondering where he is today? If he was a senior at Cal State Tech then, he was probably born in 1952 , which would make him around 70 years old. Anyone have any updates on Brian?
@@mittens4kittens435Watch closer at 3:48. Brian is shaking hands with Jack and Brett and Bill in the top row when Richard Dawson stands up behind him and pretends to pickpocket the contestant, who had just added $5500 to the 1100 or more he had already won. Gene was telling Brian about what went on behind his back during the celebration. It wasn't about Brian at all, just a joke Richard made about stealing some money from the big winner ($6000 in 1973 would have been worth approximately 40,000 in 2023, so it was quite a lot of dough). Gene: He picked your pocket while you were up there (points at Richard) Dickie: Well I figure you can afford it now. 🥸
The Texas Instruments electronic calculator shown at the end of the show is a lot like the one I had back then. It was considered pretty high tech. It's amazing how far we have come.
The edit at 13:00 was because Judy originally wrote "his horse started to DUMP." She had to change it to YAWN, but you can clearly see her original card when the camera goes to Richard.
Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, the town that Jack Carter mentions at 20:11 is the actual (fictional) setting for the CBS soap opera "The Young and The Restless," in which it is called "Genoa City." Facts.
Today Fannie Flagg becomes the 17th MG celebrity to score a head-to-head match victory! This was her second attempt. (The others are Richard, Brett, and Charles of course, along with Jack Carter, Bert Convey, Bill Daily, Ann Elder, Stu Gilliam, Carolyn Jones, Jack Klugman, Michael Landon, Jo Ann Pflug, Loretta Switt, Richard Thomas, Bobby Van, and Betty White.)
Thank You!! For the Super Match NOTIFICATION!! LOL I LOVE SPOILERS. THAT'S WHY I'M ALWAYS READING THE COMMENTS BEFORE WATCHING THE WHOLE SHOW!! 😲🤔😶😏🤗😍🥰
I'd have said "wings," but that's based on "We earn our wings every day" - the Eastern Airlines campaign that - as it turns out - had not yet been launched. (I had to look it up.)

It looks like Brian did quite well for himself. He went on to have a long career in television post production, worked on The Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and became an Executive Director for Post Production at CBS Studios. Perhaps one day he will pop into this forum to confirm my research.
Oooo, that Brian has a voice that would melt the heart of the coldest woman! Way to go, Briaaaan! Congrats. Hope you enjoyed that windfall. Lol...Fanny. I love her reaction, too. Boo hoo, bye Brian. Gonna miss that sexy voice.
He was so cute. He just wanted to be done. I hope he's doing fine somewhere, about 70 years old today. That much money was enough to change your life back then. He was just more likeable than others. I don't know why, except I'm female and always root for the nice guys.
Well, I hope Brian was able to get the car and take care of his mother with the 6 thousand after taxes. People begging him to help them, relatives coming out of the woodwork and all that.
Sock it to her! Brian matched 5 in the 1st round when he was challenger and the one he didn't match was Brett. Not sure if that was the previous week or this one, but I think it was with Judy on the panel.
Hold up-ugly is the same as "plain"? ? ? The matches shouldn't be so subjective that a "judge" can just decide who wins based on what they want versus what the actual definition is. That's messed up-dude got robbed.
plain (adj.): 3. (of a person) not beautiful or attractive He didn't get robbed at all. It's the 70s. Look how Jack said homely. Word use was different and every-day definitions changes over time.
@@soulfourger "Homely" has long been a synonym for "ugly" in American English. "Plain", on the other hand, does not mean ugly now and did not mean ugly in 1973 -- it describes that middling area that is not beautiful, not attractive, but not ugly either. Jason Kaiser is right and the judge messed up on that one, even if it didn't make any difference in the end.
Lynx South Context matters. A “plain Jane”, is an unattractive woman. “Homely” is an unattractive person. “Ugly” is a repulsively unattractive person. Any answer synonymous with unattractiveness is considered a match. “Homely” can /also/ mean ‘simple but cosy and comfortable’. “Plain” can /also/ mean simple or basic. But again, context.
ROFL! Another fine after dinner episode! :0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! :0) ROFL! Love ya Fannie! :0) ROFL! love ya Jack! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Bill! ;0) termites! ;0) Plane?? Sense of humor.. ;0) Bad Spellers Unite! ;0) (Bill, Joyce, Fannie and me) ;0) Crossing a flounder and a sting ray! ;0)
You know what would be hilarious?!! Doing this show as a 1 week special in 2021. The panelists would be: JIM from the office, ANDY from the office, ERIN from the office, Betty White, JACK from Will and Grace, KAREN from Will and Grace hosted by Nick Offerman.
Sometimes I don't like it when the panelist's try to outdo another with the jokes!!! The questions weren't dumb they just were trying to get laughs......
