Kind of a slow week this week but Betty won the week giving away 5,750 dollars in head to head and audience match matches with 16 matches for the semi regulars. Charles match 12 times for the regulars.. Nipsey and Richard both gave away 250 dollars in audience match matches.
I'd like to see any of the surviving MG panelists appear on the new ABC version.I say new because of the 1990-91 show which features those who appeared during the 70s CBS/pm versions.
What the h is Brett drinking?????? This is the worst I've seen her. Hope someone drove her home. Biggest reason Richard didn't always fit in. He didn't drink.
the last of 5 shows that day. i think somers was worse the weekend before, i literally wondered if she would need help down the stairs, i wonder if this is when she and klugman finally called it quits. betty's pretty ripped too, giggling about everything. also too, gene had a bad could, wonder if others had it too. curious, how do you know dawson didn't drink? he ran in some pretty wild company for years. as for him "not fitting in", rumors persist that he was a pain in the ass most of the time, even by his own admission. i'm not trying to start an argument just wondering what you know.
@@tomitstube On one of the episodes one of the contestants was a man from Australia and he offers Richard a bottle of scotch. Richard says on camera that he doesn't drink. I forgot the episode number but I think it's in the 1974 season.
Watching reruns of this show was always an interesting experiment in cultural time warp. Very very much a 70s feel, but almost over the top 70s, like the 70s on crack. Notice the contestants always seem sheepish and unsure. There was NO social media back then. With Vietnam and Nixon the card house was just beginning to tumble. Weird irony, modern day America has become the GAME SHOW, and with Twitter / Facebook, we're all contestants.
Rumor has it that they had one cocktail over the break but who knows.. But also that they were a walking party sober. There is debates whether Gene did either, mostly mine.. ;0)
@@sdlively27Richard and Gene both have said they didn't drink. Brett made up for them. I'm not sure if CNR or Betty had a cocktail or not. Brett made up for all of them.
If anyone remembers the running joke about the motel in Encino(California),there IS a motel in Encino,Calif.--on Ventura Blvd.,but I doubt it's the actual one.
ROFL! Another fine after dinner episode! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Charles! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Betty! ;0) OH! So Gene did have 3 piece suits in MG73.. First time unbutton? ;0) Beverly, Charles and Brett beat Richard? ;0) When the camera's photograph me does it look like I with the other two? ;0) I'll drink to that! ;0)
exactly what I was thinking, they shot several shows in a row, i'm guessing this was about the last one, any more and they would have been slurring their speech, that's when you called it a rap for this bunch. always a show within a show.
Brett drank quite a bit. That's easy enough to recognize. Other celebs imbibed to. Gene and Richard didn't drink. I'd be surprised if Betty had a cocktail.
@@krisrahm7039 I think they had it back then too, I think Allen Ludden used it on Password Plus and I think Gene made a comment about in one episode. But I not sure it would work as they would still need a hand mic for the Super Match round unless they started lapel mic on the contestants. I think that is one reason they drop the lapel mic on Gene, that way there were 10 mics on the set but one was a back up to Gene's hand mic in MG74 and beyond.. I don't think they had a back up from the hand mic for the Super Match since the one time it went out Gene used his lapel mic during that round.
@@sdlively27 The audio was much better on Gene's handheld mics especially the long skinny one if you listen back to back. This is on 2" Quad videotape and the preservation is amazing. The compression on RU-vid barely does it justice, too.
MatchGame 73 was cancelled during its first 6 months. Since they had 6 months left they decided to revamp the show by bringing in new writers, spicing up the questions and relaxing going for more comedy. As they say the rest is history.
