This Musical is Amazing!! I saw it in Melbourne!! The song reminded me of Into the Woods and the lady that sang it on the night sounded like the Baker's Wife.
I thought the EXACT same thing! It's not a particular Sondheim song, it's just overall Sondheim. But "This little girl...this miracle" is "Far from skid Row, someday I'll go", same exact notes.

This is very much how it feels when you're trying to do something but PTSD is making it tough. I'm a preschool teacher and I've definitely had parents trigger me (unknowingly, and I don't let them know) and there was one time in particular when this song started playing in my head. I had a little girl (I could go on about her, we love her). But she's in an unsafe situation at home, and this was reported to CPS. The way her mom laid into everyone about this had me fighting a battle in my mind between "Stand my ground and help the child, or cave to my own anxieties." She was wanting to know why we called, and the truth of the matter is her kid straight-up told us what was happening, with the inflection of a child who didn't realize that's not how this worked. She kept pushing to know why we called, and my PTSD wanted to tell her to avoid confrontation. I didn't tell her because it would put the child in harm's way.
