He came, he saw, he solved really well. Dr. Fill, that is, not Matt Ginsberg, although Matt would have certainly been way up there in the standings if he had been the solver rather than Dr. Fill. Making a return appearance at the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament in 2014, the new and improved Dr. Fill made child's er computer play of this year's 8 puzzles. Here is creator Matt Ginsberg's presentation to explain how Dr. Fill fared on the first 6 puzzles and how he (it?) did it. Matt's informative and amusing talk goes beyond the immediate application of artificial intelligence to the crossword world. You'll probably know more about "big data" at the end than you knew at the beginning.
