rempe is literally a beast, 99% of people have no clue how much pain this dude is in. his face is literally chalked and hes taking on arguably one of the best fighters in the last decade. this dude is a fucking beast and deserves respect
Brother I'm with you but I want to see this for the next 7+ seasons, he's gotta take a night off sometimes. Let's see someone else in that NYR locker room step up to give this kid a break already - it SHOULD have been tonight.
@@jayskate6631lol that’s not true. People in contact sports have a higher chance than anyone to get CTE. Thats why football players fall victim to it so often. Multiple concussions is prone to cause it, but you never know you have it till you have it.
Rempe definitely was way more cautious here than he has been, which is a good thing. I love that he's keeping fighting alive, but he needs to protect himself better and he did here, he used his reach to mostly hold off Reaves.
Fans like u make me cringe yall dont care about the longterm health of players. A good fighter wouldn't look like a fighter. Ive lost once and haven't lost since
cause you're a SOFT modern NHL fan. you like things simplified like east and weast conferences and stupid wild card crap. Go lay on Bettmans lap you hoser
Who are you referring to as one of the best fighters in the last decade? It can't be Reeves, because his record proves he isn't a good fighter. He hasn't won a fight this year
Are you fucking stupid? Ge beat O brien clearly, landed more punches than Foligno did so he won that and Arber didn't land a single fucking punch in their fight befire he Decided he didn't want yo actaully fight Reaves and Pushed him into the net......You're fucking beyond clueless bro lmao
Not everyone knows but Rempe was brought to NYR by Tanner Glass who used to drop gloves quite often playing for Rangers back in the day and now he’s bringing prospects from the West Coast.
@@staticityy6664 Right. Not easy coming back after a loss as a 21 year old and going against a big vet with a lot of fight experience. He’s going to be scary in a few years
@@petererckert165Reaves was trying to fight Rempe at the start of the game before any heavy checking occurred. Reaves didn’t care; he just wanted to fight. And that’s fine.
I think that's because they want to keep the fighting revival happening but, that doesn't mean Reaves would just keep unloading on the kids banged up face with impunity he still was looking out for him I believe.
I know the rempe family personally - his dad passed away about 7 years ago and his mom is not in a good place. Matt is a good kid - hope he doesn't try too hard.
That is tough to hear. Hopefully he isn't fighting every game. I think he has made a name for himself enough going up against Reaves and holding his own. Hopefully he has a good head on his shoulders for after the game activities. I wish him well, or as well as a Flyers fan can. 🙏🏻
@@jerseydave71 hes not a goal scorer so he has to make a name for himself in order to break into the league. Sean Avery created a character, Rempe uses his fitness and fists. Even though he came from money, the Rempe kids were raised well by their dad who made a strong point that their wealth should never mean they should look down on others.
Why would you feel bad. Rempe is trying to make a name for himself so he came in loud and hot. He's taking runs at guys into the boards when he's not fighting so the target he's got is all by his own design. It might get him a real money contract before all is said and done.
Yeah but they all want a piece became Everyone is talking about him. He improved the league's buzz this year. Hats off to him. All these other guys have been around.
@@craigharrison5406 None of that changes anything that I said. Even if you get some money out of it, his face looks like he just got out of a 5 round MMA fight. Tough way to make a living, dudes probably already got brain damage in his first season. His face is already turning into a hockey face at 21. But hey at least he’s getting some paper I guess.
@@craigharrison5406He's not trying to make a name for himself, veteran fighters are literally coming up to him and asking for a fight. Shame on them for clouting on a 21 year old
Good bout, old school hockey, new school announcers that did their best to take ALL the fun out of it. Biggest kids on the block wanna have a tussle let them go, it's gonna happen and it's what the fans are here for. To see who's the best. Props to both guys for showing respect and doing it right.
Agreed. Also Bob Probert and I'm sure many more. A fighting style trying to show how tough you are by landing and receiving punches with little thought for defense (avoiding punches) will bring nothing but trouble for Rempe in the long run.
Agreed. The guy goes "and they drop the gloves... I dont know why?" What is he talking about? Rempe just injured the new leafs d man and you have a chance at a center ice scrap saturday night in Toronto.
@JackArctic it's Hockey Night in Canada....the kid held his own against a very experienced heavyweight. The NY broadcast is garbage. Next time watch the Canadian broadcast
Damn you can tell he barely wanted to be there in the fight but had to do it for the respect even with all the bruises already on his face. Dudes and animal, definitely earned the respect he’s getting!
He's a 6'8" infant. Didn't/couldn't read the fight-club roolz in his contract. Poor boy thought he got signed cuz of his hockey skills. No doubt his mama weeps... but parks her 2025 alpine glitter white Mercedes SUV out curbside for y'all to see. Such as it is.
Leafs fan here and I was at the game, love reaves but gotta tip your hat to rempe what a beast and so awesome for the game gotta love guys like that brings out the best in other players too
Why do your "love" Reeves? Serious question. He got embarrassed by Xhejak, got his face punched in by Foligno, barely hung on against O'Brien (who's lost a few fights this year) and now gets stood up by a rookie. Reeves can't win fights against nobodies.
I’m a Leaf fan but also a Rempe fan. I lost my Dad as a teenager and went off the deep end, functioning alcoholic until 30, two years of therapy and I’m clean 32 years now. He makes the show💪 Boys should pass the 🧢. Deserves a night off. Reaves punches are lightning fast.
Sorry to hear about that brother, stay strong! Also, a Rempe fan myself. Kid got a lot of guts and was thrown into this season last month. I think you give him some time to develop next year with the team before the season and he will be a force to be reckoned with
@@puckling2250 Thanks, some tough years, The breaking point was my wife left me for someone else and my wonderful Mom died when I was 29. Had a good job but the drinking went crazy! But there is a happy ending, a year later I met the most beautiful woman ever, we hit it off and were married a year later. Marriage is always a crap shoot but 32 years later I got really lucky. From the outhouse to the penthouse so to speak marriage wise. And 32 years sober. I owe that to two strong Doctors and my 2nd wife. The ironic part is my new wife at the time never nagged me about drinking. That put the onus on me to get it together.
Glad to see the kid being more careful. As much as I like fighting in our game, I don't want to see Rempe end up like Derek Boogaard. Hopefully he slows down how much he drops the mitts
Well he called out the league and said he loves fighting in his post game interviews and he's still taking runs at guys into the boards so this is all by his own design. He can't expect the league to give him a break because he got his clock cleaned by Olivier.
As a 21 year old, nobody is fully developed. Him fighting all these grown ass goons as often, and early in his career could be compromising for his longevity, especially his last 3 fights has been very intense to say the least. Basically still a kid, he should share all the responsibilities with someone he can learn from and when hes grown and ready, he can take over.
I agree completely! This kid is gonna burn himself out, or have to retire early from concussion syndrome if he doesn’t slow down. Laviollette needs to get involved and put some safety measures in place.
21 yrs old is definitely grown! lol WTH you deleted my comment earlier you loser! 21 yrs old is definitely a grown man, i had hair on my ass when I was 4.
As a leaf fan i dont like this tbh. After Rempes last fight he took a lot of hard shots. Last thing I wanted to see is him feel pressured into fighting Reaves for no reason. He def did alright here but it.didnt need to happen and he didnt need eat anymore unnecessary punches right yet. Respect the kid tho for sure
I think they both went into showmanship mode. The crowd was really wanting to see it and they didn't want to let down 20k+ paying customers. Rempe even looked at his coach to "ask" permission before doing it. I think he'll chill out now until they play Montreal towards the end of the year. I'm assuming he'll want to have a go vs Arber Xhekaj.
I think this was a delayed fighting reaction to Rempe doing a charge (that again was missed by the officials) and taking out Lybushkin our new D-man in the 2nd period.
If his feet keep leaving the ice on hits, he'll have to man up everytime, the opponents aren't going to let it slide, that's why Reaves challenged him.
I have to say I'm not a big hockey fan but all these recent fights kind of draw me in to what hockey has seen to have been missing for awhile! Just watching the refs not rush in immediately to break things up is refreshing and suprising
Gonna be a beast in couple seasons for sure, I would like to think that in the off season he still gets his time on ice and improves but also get in the gym and get some top boxing coaching.
Rempe will likely be the best fighter in NHL within a year or two as he will gain experience and strength (he is very young still). Seeing his style of not being afraid to dance with anyone -> big chances for CTE.
Of course they didn't but he didn't back down. No doubt Rempe should go easy for a little but with reaves chirpin I can see why it happened @@peanuttgalleriYEP
Respect to rempe. Kids got balls. Just hope the people around him know he has his limits. He can throw em with the best of em but you gotta have time to recover. Take it easy on the fist to cuffs next couple games bud you earned it
The tough part for Rempe is, every tough guy wants a piece of him every game, one guy can only take on so many fights before he goes down with a concussion or worse. Rempe would much rather play the game and stand up when needed than be challenged to a fight every game. Give the kid credit though, he's scrapping it out with the best of them.
As a Leaf fan I'm happy for Reaves recent resurgence but huge respect to Rempe for fighting every night. Let that face, head and hands heal though brother. Wishing you a long career.
Reaves took it easy on him, he knew he was damaged, he landed some solid shots on Rempe at the end of the fight and you can see Reaves was asking him if he wanted to stop and then he agreed, kid has guts to fight Reaves banged up like that.
80s hockey had 5 or 6 fighters on every team. They fought before the game. They fought after the game. They went into stands and fought the fans. Even Denis Savard got into a few fights. Every team had 4 rivals they played often. Hawks fan, but Blues, NORTHstars, Wings, Leafs games......those were the days for me. I like the skill game, but 80s, and 70s, sure were fun too. 70s had those uni's. Especially the WHA.
The young guy is doing ok, he's getting on the job training. Everytime he drops the gloves, it a learning process. He will only get better, sometimes you have to lose to win. Keep it going young man.
Same people talking about how the league needs to ban fighting, are all about this. This is true hockey. What made me fell in love with the game. The RISK the REWARD and the BROTHERHOOD
Rempe’s gotta be careful, he is overdoing this and I feel that he will get injured during a fight and the NHL will use this as an excuse to ban fighting altogether
leafs fan here and I love seeing physicality in hockey, fights always caught my interest since a young age. Rempe is real good for the league, just like the game tonight this was a fairly even fight
Kid needs to be careful. Look at Boogaard and Probert. Two of the biggest baddest men ever to do it, and the aftermath literally killed them both. Godspeed young fella
I feel so bad for Rempe, Black eye..brusied face and looks like he is in pain. I was almost in tears. I don't understand hockey but love that Reaves went easy on him, poor kid.
I love how in hockey the refs don't even give a shit or even try to stop the fight, instead of refereeing the game they just switch to refereeing a boxing match.
Reavo is a monster man, but lets give it up for this kid rempe. Hesa tough tough kid and he will die out there if he has to. Just recently started hearing about him, from my understanding hes new to the league. But hes been fighting monsters and seems to love pain. He held his own a bit here too i think reavo quite clesrly won but reavo has dusted past opponents. Rempe ate those punches like a man
Being pushed into the net Isn't being ragdolled. Especially after you eat 2 punches off your head.....arber did nothing but push Reaves over....infact Arber has done less than anybody who's fought Reaves this year, Even Rempe gave him a better match up. Atleast he wasn't scared to throw hands. Clueless hater clown who dosent know anything about hockey.
