We need more stand-up comedy round-table this was so awesome. The cast was perfect. I LOVE standup but i love seeing them off stage the best. Comedians are so genuine and intellectual. By far my favorite type of artist they're so diverse and honest. Yeah they're clowns but its the brilliance behind the funny. The ability to see a different perspective that makes you question things while making you laugh. Its the beez neez item 9. Kevin Hart's laugh at my pain is the perfect name for a comedy special. Cuz that is the base of comedy you take pain and hurt then transform it into smile.

Same, 33 now, been watching for 30 years this year, first I watched was prior with my pops. I read the books all the stand ups even the 90s Def jams etc, grew up and spent 3 years working on clubs and doing stand up, then covid hit and comedians took their autonomy back through social media then started their podcasts and yeah, the podcasts was a new medium didn't know comedians would ever be in let alone be the top podcasts.

@@BoinkrNanis That's so cool!! I just turned 32. I'm thinking of trying out stand-up for the first time at an open mic night nearby
@BoinkrNanis
@BoinkrNanis 9 месяцев назад
@@TheDylls give it a go. If it's open mic don't take it seriously, more than likely there isn't a cover charge that night. Have a shot before going up and take a beer with you. I didn't write jokes for a long time, I just would vent about my day, takes a lot of pressure off. If you're already naturally funny, you'll be fine. I did it every Wednesday for a couple years. I'd have therapy at 4, hope on the bus at 515 to downtown and wouldn't get home until 3 4am. It was great for my PTSD recovery shit. Being genuine and authentic is the best way to go. If you're gonna lie, exaggerate and don't all out lie, without experience the audience will know. The shot and the beer should come with doing a 5 minute set so enjoy. The best part is whether you go on or not you get to hangout with the comedians and be apart of their lives and vice versa. My thing, I'd run my set by the comics before going on or not and I'd tell jokes to the comedians in the back, not directly to the crowd. At first my best friend would sit in the crowd and I'd basically tell him stories. Its super fun, scary and rewarding. Shits difficult to do so after a few months if you've got the hang of it, congrats, you've accomplished something not even Oscar winning actors or NFL super stars could ever do. Peace and love. PS, it also helps if you're a broken person 🤣
@TheDylls
@TheDylls 9 месяцев назад
@@BoinkrNanis THANK YOU! Where to start? I AM a broken person 😂 (But I have a great wife and an equally great daughter) I've always been known as a "funny guy". When sitting front row, TJ Miller once came off stage to deal with a heckler in the middle of a couple thousand people show. He ended up shaking my hand before getting back on stage while asking me some questions. He then said "SEE?! Now THAT'S a funny guy answer" Also, I feel like I couldn't write a joke to save my life. What I DO have are quite a few funny stories from my life, and I'm "known" to be able to tell them really well. (I've more than once had a request to re-tell a story at a party that the person has heard before) Lemme hit you with an intro to a funny story/bit I'm working on: "One day my dad kicked the shit out of three small dogs at our local park... He's never been a bigger hero to me."

It amazes me how humble Marlon is. He KNOWS how successful he is and how talented he is, yet, he's not only willing, but is genuinely pleased to be there. And totally impressed by how short of a career Matt Rife has had, he's so mature and wise about the industry and how to continuously grow. I've never seen this show before, I'm guessing there have been plenty before by how good the production is, but it's a show to have. To have a multi-person interview where they can co-sign and vibe off each others' answers. Makes you feel like you're in the room with them. Love it.

I’m sorry to be that guy but I used to feel that way about certain celebrities also before I got more perspective. Marlon is simply playing into the politics of Hollywood. It’s one of those things you can’t unsee, once you learn enough about the business and the culture between these people, you can tell when they are truly humble or down to earth, or basically speaking from a script in fear of losing their fancy things and adoration. To be clear I generally like Marlon, and think he’s pretty funny sometimes and actually a pretty good actor. If it wasn’t for Keenan and Damon paving the way I don’t think he’d be in the entertainment business at this level anyway and I’m pretty sure he knows that. So he SHOULD be humble and respectful and embracing new talent, but in this round table he’s playing into a role. It’s no coincidence that he brings up every major left wing talking point including Covid and Trans other than to show he plays for the right team.

Only people who are stuck on the internet make it their lives and easily get offended by a comedians joke but those that are outside the world and actually living would laugh at a comedians joke no matter what it is as long as it's done right. Matt's dad died when he was a baby and never got to meet him and had to grow up watching others have father figures. Doubt his mom dated through raising him since she was widowed and his dad didn't just leave. Sam grew up black and gay during a time that was the worst possible combination of character traits. Marlon grew up knowing his had to be as good if not better than literally his entire family and that's a fucking ton of pressure when your family name is known before your birth and was the one of three black household names in Hollywood during those times. Yeah, comedians are the same type of person, damaged or broken. Done a lot of stand up and I've NEVER met a comedian that didn't come from some shit. Toms upbringing wasn't his mother, it was being the only boy in a house full of women that would gang up on him daily. I relate more to Tom than anyone else on the dais lol

I liked this i just wish it was longer and that the other comedians (aside from Marlon) jumped into the convo more. With black folks sometimes you gotta jump in lol

Im torn whether Matt Rife is here too early or not but the fact that he is speaks to the caliber of his comedy. I definately think he deserves the consideration but a few years to early to be a titan of industry like the rest at this table. Hes definately on track to be though
