Our evil thoughts, lies, sexual immorality, wickedness, all our wrongdoing, is sin that originates from within the heart of every person, and is an offense to God. Good works, religion, acts of kindness, no good deed, can change this human heart nature that keeps God separated from us, a state that destines us to hell. God however, gives us an entirely new nature, His divine nature, His Holy Spirit, that changes us from creatures hopelessly grasping for His acceptance, to having received His acceptance as a gift of His grace. A gift we receive by faith, not in our works, but in God's work on the cross through Jesus Christ. Thereby revealing, its not what you do that turns away God's wrath or gains His acceptance in this life and the next, but what (who) you are. Its the difference between trying to offer righteous acts to God, and receiving God's gift of righteousness. Between being a wolf in sheep's clothing trying to appear like one of God's sheep, or by grace through faith in Jesus being born again by God into an authentic sheep of His flock. Its not what you do...Its what (who) you are.
