God answers our prayers for His provision and healing, sometimes instantly and miraculously 'now' when we need it, but most often, His response to our prayers can initially be silence and inaction. Even a parent's crying out to God in desperation and heartache for the pain and suffering of their children, can result in unchanged circumstances. As was the experience of a Canaanite mother, in this passage, who came crying out to Jesus for God's mercy, "and Jesus answered her not a word." Through a careful reading of this passage we'll also see several possible explanations answering why God initially, and often, delays His response to our prayers, even when it could mean permitting a child's continued suffering, instead of granting instant healing.
