This has just been such a relief to see some mainstream celebrities are critical thinkers and not sheep to the right or left.

You don't need to be right or left to see through the BS academic rethoric or JP. Coating hate under "but actually if you think about how Plato described X, Y and Z" bla bla bla a loooooot of actual scientists and researchers i know find him to be just another "pute à click" (a french word to say he'd do anything for attention on the internet). None of his "self help" is actually based on philosophy or psychology (from what i know in my field of research). Also, critical thinking isn't a term you can use for people who just agree with you. What i just did right there is critical thinking. These celebrities (such as JP) who call themselves "critical thinkers" should always be taken with a grain of salt. Especially when it's just to have no legitimate argument (he has a good rhetoric but no argument, especially when it comes to ethics) and say things that could harm a lot the "free speech" he's defending.

@@kwave5426 I might be boring but at least I don't try to coat my boringness into hate speech. And I actually use arguments that are based on moral principles that I've studied. If you want to have an actual academic argument about ethics then start by talking dignity and autonomy that are actual notions of ethics. Then maybe we can talk. Until then do you research and stop listening to Daddy Peterson for once and think for yourself. Or read Kant I don't know. Do whatever you want. But his philosophy is wrong on so many levels and everyone in the academic world knows it. And no he's not a black sheep or whatever expression is used here. He's not "speaking the truth that everyone is too afraid to talk about". 12 rules to know how to wipe yo ass isn't philosophy or psychology.

Absolutely love Matthew McConaughey. His evolution as an actor from basic Rom Com Heart Throb to a best actor Oscar winner is truly phenomenal. He is so genuine, down to earth, funny, endearing and charismatic. I really like Russell Howard and think he is very funny but also raises socially important issues true to himself, takes no prisoners but above all a genuine nice guy. But to see McConaughey having no ego, appreciative of Russell’s compliments and equally replies in kind but then sit down like too mates and have such an entertaining, informative and enlightening interview is very rare. Kudos to both.

"You got to have confrontation to have unity" - MM around 17:40. Absolutely. Cowards beat around the bush, do double speak, practise passive aggressive attacks, the tactics are lacking in honor. @@DocnoXXX If you cant see that for yourself then you are a bit dim, or just pissed of at, well whatever you may be angry at. I truly hope you have a good day further though. One more thing, sometimes people need a layman's perspective and insight to what is going on around them to actually connect and think for themselves. Its not a bad thing.

That was so satisfying to watch! Food for the soul. Which is telling of how lacking we are for honest and sincere conversation, but also of how much we need it as humans and a culture. I've come away with respect for Russell after previously seen him as being very much a lefty due to his comedy shows and the material therein. It was warming to hear him express more nuance on politics and show an openess. Bless you both for this. Thank you.

Russell, this was by far the most wholesome, funny, open, honest and thoroughly interesting interview I have ever watched. The questions you asked, the answers and the honesty from you both was heart warming to be honest. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute and was genuinely disappointed when it ended! This was proper TV , proper journalism, and I am convince that you guys should so tour together dude! 10 out of 10. Thank you!

You forget that this person is a very intelligent, centred, deep thinking, honest, value affirming human. You often forget that there are a lot of celebrities here in the UK, in the USA that are very very intelligent folks that talk a lot of sense. Unfortunately recently “celebs’ are fake, selfie obsessed folks that just spout nonsense and jump on the current popular bandwagon.... Good interview

Loved this open conversation between you guys...just open, objective, very down the earth kind of a way. No biasing, no need to politicize. Wanting to see the truth for what it is, and not for what we want it to be as opposed from the both spectrum of extreme thinkers these days. And god Interviewer, job well done :)

The point about “context” at 17 mins. is so critically important. Abstractions in current journalism and politics (such as “equality”) are typically avoiding context so as to advance the bigotry under a camouflage of care.

When you're speaking about laughing in the face of adversity and time of crisis, just watch any military group! I'm ex-Royal Navy and we used to make jokes and laugh at stuff that would make a lot of people's toes curl! Always thought McConaughey was a bit of a hollywood blow hard putting on the Texan thing as a bit of a show but now I want to read that book. Seems like a legitimate and genuinely decent bloke with a heart a gold a zest for life. Enjoyed the bit about stand ups being the truth tellers. Sad but true right now. Guess there isn't any corporate money involved to corrupt it!
