Great comment / questions! This is something I've been meaning to address. Also kinda complicated to answer in this format. Let me explain that. 🤔 This is something that comes up frequently and I've mentioned it to varying degrees in several comments in the past and a few times in videos. What I'm going to do is put together a video discussing common factory firearm finishes and materials, common coatings that are available, the processes necessary for application, my experience with these finishes, and "pros and cons" as I see them. It won't be all inclusive, but should paint a picture of what's available out there. I will send you the link to that video in the near future. I went on the hunt for answers and stumbled upon the fail proof company and one of my personal favorites " Brownell" they have some finishes called "Gun Coat" I am sure your familiar with it?. Yes. It is very easy to do so. It doesn't require a tool but it helps if you use a flat blade like a pocket knife or common screw driver to pop it out.

@@JayLewisFarmStylemy grandfather always used Johnson’s paste wax on his receivers and barrels on his vintage Browning A-5 barrels and Receivers before going hunting (especially duck hunting)…I inherited his A-5 with all three barrels from the 1930s and everything still looks like new (except for normal wear from use…you can’t get away from the JMB designed long recoil action wear and tear)…I’ve used his recommended wax hack on my Cowboy Action rifles and shotguns for over 25 years (sometimes used in wet weather) and I’ve never been cursed with rust…but your mileage may vary 😉😉😉…location is Middle Georgia and East Tennessee…your channel is excellent 👍🤘👍🤘👍🤘

@bisleyblackhawk1288 thanks for sharing your grandad's hack. My buddy Aaron is from upstate New York, but lives on St Simon's Island GA. He has a nice collection of Ithaca shotguns that he waxes with Turtle wax to keep them from rusting up. I'm a sucker for an old blued gun and have several that live in a climate controlled safe. That said the microwave generation don't have the patience for maintaining finishes. In the few years that I've been YouTubing I've had tons of requests for what to do about rusty gun videos. As a result I usually put one out every few months. In fact I'm working on one now. I hope you catch it when it comes out next week. Thanks for watching 👍

@@JayLewisFarmStyle I live in Southern Delaware, but I've searched for a Maverick 88 in the Chesapeake/Norfolk/Virginia Beach area and the Outer Banks, North Carolina.

I remember living in areas where you had to drive far and wide to find stuff so I feel your pain. $300 is a slight premium, but in the grand scheme of things not too bad. It should serve you well.

They're all over the place here. Plus you could always order online.
