For me as a newcomer to trail running, the shoe is a good beginner's shoe. It offers more grip and support than a normal road running shoe, but still has the cushioning I am used to from road running shoes. I ran a Salomon trail running shoe at a trail running workshop and my feet found the difference very hard to get used to for a beginner.
I have the second version. I got up to 230 miles in them, drilled screws into the outsole, and made them my snow/ice shoes. The wide base and the fact that it sits so far off the ground works well in the snow.
A head to head comparison in this category could be the New Balance V4 Trail vs ASICS Trabuco Max 2, any thoughts? Thanks have a great weekend everyone 🤙🏽
Yes! Training for my first 100 miler now. The race will be on flat hard packed gravel. I’ve been running in the invincible 3 on the road and love them, I want a similar feeling on the trail. My options were the more trail v3 and the trabuco max. I chose the more trail v3 because the road version is highly rated, ordered a few minutes ago. Would’ve loved a head to head comparison between the shoes.
@@Cookefan59 Fresh Foam X is softer than the usual Fresh Foam, depending on how much heavier we are talking you can over-compress the foam and really throw off the geometry, especially with a low drop shoe, if you sink too deeply into that heel foam it can really mess your feet up. I had issues with Topo Ultraventure and their Zipfoam, its just too squish and my heel ends up lower than my forefoot after sinking into the foam and negative drop shoes are not a thing for a reason.
Already got my pair. The V1's were road to trail powerhouses but the traction wasn't good enough for serious trail. The V2's were a massive improvement but they were very 'experimental' in their design and build. But these V3's are finally ready for prime time. They basically took their More V4's for road running, slapped a Vibram outsole on them and added a dual layer of foam to make them a teeny tiny more responsive for trails (as opposed to the super cushioned midsole for road). They're now as good as the Hoka Speedgoats and the Brooks Caldera. p.s. I know you dislike this level of cushioning but this review is valuable for us ultra-cush fans. We now know that any future reviews where you think the shoe in question has too much cushioning - then it's perfect for us 😜.
I saw NB V2 on sale and said I would try them, hated them at first but when I broke em in I loved them, good for getting in the big miles with less soreness after. on race day I will go for Sg5 or Keiger, NB not good for technical trails, can't wait to try V3 out for training and putting in the miles, balance is tricky at first but ok for just plodding along, Loyd come to Ireland and try the Kerry Way Ultra. Outstanding channel with great vid quality
Great review mate! I ordered myself a pair and I must say there brilliant for us heavier people, I’m 6”5 and weigh 102kg and I absolutely love running but the impact on my knees and ankles are taking its toll on me now until I found these bad lads! Literally a pain free run it was absolutely bliss. I agree there a bit dodgy on trails though well a bit more complicated ones that is as you can’t feel the ground at all and could easily roll an ankle. Would love a video on shoes for impact for us heavier runners or even any recommendations would be great👍
Hey! 😊 Would you mind giving me a little feedback on a specific point? CONTEXT: So I'm unfortunately not that tall (only 175 cm) but got 109kg and hit the gym daily (not sure if relevant, but bf on around 23% but good amount of muscles too). I've recently had a rupture in my left knee's ACL and fractured my meniscus. Had surgery last September and since November I was already doing indoor bike, and back to gym since December. I still have some instability (more 6 months of physio) and still can't run, but can walk normally. MY QUESTION: I have my first international trip (to Europe) coming in and I'm looking for a very cushioned pair of shoes to walk a lot with the minimal knee discomfort. Would you recommend these guys for like, a lot of walking during 3 weeks? The most difficult scenario I'll be in is probably a few hikes in the four days in Switzerland, but for that I might get something else, I'm mainly interested in the comfort these folks would provide me during long hours. Thank you in advance buddy, and sorry for the long text.
I was considering these or the Trabuco Max 2 and went with the ASICS since I needed a pair a few months ago for the winter but am looking forward to maybe getting these next winter
Thanks for this review Loyd, I was looking forward to it, as I purchased a pair of the NB Trail Version 2s on sale to replace my Salomon Ultraglides. I've now done over 300km in them, and your summary is spot on, very comfy but you need to concentrate when the trail gets a bit gnarly. I'll keep them going for a few more months but will revert to something comfortable but more compact after that. Loved that soundtrack you used.
I bought these and have sent them back. Mainly because I found the toe box too shallow. But also, I couldn’t really think of a good argument to keep them. My Xodus ultra 2 have a more spacious toe box and can do everything the More Trail could do and more. And the dry, smooth terrain that I would use the More trail for I could just as easily use road shoes.
Was a wide option not available? I bought the More Trail V2s and got lucky I've seen a review saying they're slightly narrow which made me get the wider size.
Nice looking shoe. I have the Brooks Caldera 6,which has hefty stack and has become my main "off road" shoe,I really like it. Be good to do a comparison.
Thank you so much for sharing this great experience, wearing the New Balance More Trail V3 is my favorite for next running shoe purchase.👍🏼💪🏽🔥🔥🔥🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
One of the most distinctive things about the "NB Mores" is that extremely wide outsole platform. For this reason, it could affect your choice of foot placement in a narrow area. Loyd gets into this a bit around 13:32. Could require a significant mental adjustment, depending on what you like to run through.
I’m sure this shoe will fit the bill for some folks but honestly part of the reason I prefer trail running is that I can wear shoes that are much more stripped down than my road shoes day after day without injury (mostly 😏) or discomfort.
Ive been wearing more minimal shoes for 3000 miles and found this shoe seemed much easier on my feet after a long run. Still to early to cast a vote but so far I love this shoe if it holds up
I bought these shoes based on this video. I had to take them off and stop my run. My feet were killing me. They hurt worse than a zero drop shoe. Going back today.
Get ready for the cushioning Dean! I'd be interested to hear what you think of the shoes. On hard compact flat trails they do run well, it's very bouncy!! 😲 I did find they really struggled off camber though, I had to work really hard to try and stay stable 🤔 Hope you enjoy them and thanks for watching 🙏
@@Run4Adventure Bloody hell they are bouncy!! Only tried them on but that’s a heck of a stack. I’ve never noticed a mid sole feel like that before. Hoping my Superfeet innersoles will help stabilise them
Great review Loyd. Thank You! I was looking at these as need a shoe with good cushioning due to newly developed bone density issues but at the same time have a bust ankle with weak ligaments. So pleased to avoid a possible roll due to lack of contact feel! Back to the drawing board !
If you have weak ligaments from a busted ankle I'd definitely stear clear of this one 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
I have the NB More Trail v2 and have done about 100 ish miles of running and probably about 50miles of walking/ hiking in them. I think for 9/10 situations there is too much cushioning and they feel a bit cumbersome. I did a 50k which was mainly on the ex estuary cycle path and for that they were brilliant. Probably their ideal use case as you say. But then when I used them for a much more technical and very muddy half marathon on the coast path at Polzeath I found them not great on the steep or off camber sections. I mainly use as a walking/ dog walking shoe now but do occasionally run in them.
Great vid as always. As someone who has dodgy toes rigid/ rocker soles are better for me so I'm always interested in how much flex / bend is in the shoe.. on the next review give them a squeeze..try to scrunch then up...just for me...
A shoe with a midsole as deep and cushioned as these isn't going to have a lot of flex at the midfoot, if any. I've just tried to bend it and it isn't moving! 👍 Hope thus helps and thanks for watching 🙏
I tried these on aside the hierro v7s and I did like the v7s but they fit so narrow and I do not have a wide foot at all. The more trails definitely has a wider more comfortable toe box
Great review with detail! Personally I love the cushioning.......can't be too much :-) I'm not quick enough to worry about connecting with the ground. Your review tells me I want these shoes 🙂
These super stack shoes seem to be getting crazy. Not sure why trail shoes need to be so cushioned, when you are on a trial. The super cushion shoes seem fine for easy days on the road when you just want to get miles in without fatiguing your feet and legs, but not often. Work on foot strength to help improve your days out. I am really looking forward to the Unknown trail.
I love the framing of every shot when you do the running. 🎥 🔥 BTW Can you compare it to the Nike Invincible 3 in terms of how bouncy and comfortable it is?
Just what I was thinking. Something breathable and with grip on non extreme technical terrain…but for long mile walks like Camino de Santiago. Its cushioning comfort seems more geared towards that.
i like the more v4 road shoes, for when my feet are sore. i suppose there are trails where a very cushioned shoe might work. old railway lines, long straight lines
It looks like my More V4 road shoes only with trail lugs, and from the review it sounds like that's the exact idea that NB had. It's probably mean to be used more like gravel bikes than full trail running.
Struggling to think of a race these would be good for. maybe the South Down Way 100 which is in summer when the trails are rock hard and nothing too technical. It does seem very niche though.
If you're running on the road, a road shoe would probably be a better choice. Also its a myth that a deeply cushioned running shoes helps bad knees! If you're having issues with your knees I'd try and get to the bottom of the problem first 👍 Thanks for watching 🙏
That looks like Hayle towans? I grew up there. I now live on a mountain in Portugal. How would these stack up (excuse the pun) to the rebel v4 for comfort? I wear the rebel v4 for dog walking up and down the mountain and just need some more water resistant comfort shoes for winter. So my questions, are they as comfy/squishy and are they water repellent? Hope you can help 🙏
I love the v1 More Trail. It is not as firm or as high - it is like a Speedgoat with more toe box space. V2 More Trail, they ruined it. It sounds like V3 is the same. Very unstable. The form is actually firmer than the original and it is firmer than the road version. My boyfriend tried the V3, rolled his ankle on just average technical trails. I honestly don't know who this shoe is for. Maybe people just just run non-technical truck trails? 🤷🏼♀️
As heavy as i am 110kg i went super fat blob Xfoam nb:s (Dont really know the model but i think it was most expensive) for road because shin splints. Must because i want to avoid having shin splints again. Bouncy AF but whatever it takes to run.
Great video I think the comment below says thanks I love my ankles lol. Have you tried the NB Hirros? How do you feel about a long walk in these, Fatigue or no?
They seem like an SUV of shoes. Not very sporty or Good off road, but perfect for pavements and andventures like taking kids to school or doing groceries
what would be your choice between these & speedgoat 5 for walking long distance such as the pennine way over mixed terrain around 20 mile per day ?. cheers
The lugs may wear quite rapidly depending on the surface. This, in turn, could lead to a not so pleasant experience in the shoe. I’ve had this happen with Altra Lone Peaks. Very comfortable shoe, but wearing on pavement wears the lugs down and affects the overall feel, in a not so positive way.
Do you ever use lockdown eyelets on shoes that are unstable or have heel slippage? Either with or without using a runners knot? Just curious because I’ve watched a bunch of your video reviews and don’t recall you ever showing you using those extra eyelets. Obviously I enjoy and get alot out of your reviews. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks
I really don't get on with using the extra eyelets, especially with a runner knot! I've tried it before and I just find it uncomfortable on the top of my foot unfortunately. I also think if you need to use it, it probably means your not in the right shoe for your footshape 🤔 Thanks for watching 🙏
Thanks for reply. I agree with you that the runners knot can cause irritation across the top of the foot. So I have used the extra eyelet without the knot on some shoes that I’ve had heel slippage on. It has helped for me. I also agree that having to use the extra eyelet may mean the shoe is not right for me, but not trying it seems like a missed opportunity. Mostly because my right and left foot are not exactly the same. Not a big difference, like maybe 1/32 inch difference smaller than the other, but can cause slippage in one shoe. Sorry for way-to-much detail. Thanks again for your efforts in reviews and making yhe videos. Enjoy your runs.
It really depends on what’s causing your Soleus pain? Have you had it looked at? If it’s instability or lack of strength in the lower leg then this shoe would be terrible! Because the cushioning is so soft and so high it can run quite unstable on uneven ground! Hope this helps and thanks for watching Joshua🙏🙂
@@Run4Adventure thanks for replying, fairly new to running and loving the content. I think it’s down to instabilities as I had 0 pain using Northface vectiv went to some Nike cushioned Nike invincible 3s and it came on within a couple miles Run in the back lanes around Dartmoor, Devon so looking for a shoe that’s ok for tarmac but ok on some trails and it’s a bit of a mine field !! Loving the content, keep it up 👍
I returned mine as I found the toe box quite shallow and pressure on the top of my big toe. The upper material was very soft and comfortable but the pressure on the toe was a deal breaker for me.
3% biobased content in only one component of the shoe will have a negligible (at best) impact on the carbon footprint of the shoe, its just greenwashing & marketing guff
Hello. Can I get advice from you for city tours and walking? Assuming that I can take an average of 20-30 thousand steps per day in cities for trips abroad, would you recommend this shoe? I am looking for a shoe that will make me feel less tired as much as possible and increase my desire to walk. I like the Fresh Foam X More Trail v3 or v2 looks. do you think that's what i'm looking for?
Maybe the NB Fresh Foam X road running shoe woukd be a better choice. Obviously this shoe is designed for trail running so you might get a bit more durability out of the road shoe Ismail 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
I had the V2 but sold them on. As much as I liked the comfort they were just far too heavy, and even though I had a "wide" size the toe box was still quite snug and I don't even have hobbit feet 😂 I've never had to purchase wide shoes before until those more v2's. I had a pair of Solomon UltraGlide 2's arrive the other day so looking forward to trying those out 👍🏻
I haven't found the V3's that narrow Paul. I feel my Ultra Glide 2's are a narrower fit compared to the NB shoes. How did you find the fit of the Salomons? 🤔
@@Run4Adventure I definitely agree that the Solomon are snug but not uncomfortable. Hopefully the upper will loosen off a bit once I start getting some miles in them
It really depends on the type of terrain you’re running on? Ones a road shoe and the other ones a trail running shoe. However they are both very cushioned shoes 👍😁
I didn't unfortunately but I did have several pairs of Speedgoat 3's, which I loved. The Evo Speedgoat was built off the same model, great shoe 👍 Thanks for watching 🙏
This shoe has no water repellent and it's definitely not waterproof, if it was I would have definitely mentioned it in the video 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏
The jacket is about 2 years old Lasse so I'm not sure of the name and I don't think Scott make them any more? Sorry I can't help more but thanks for watching 🙏😊
