It's what elevates this games narrative from a complex, intricate and paradoxically introspective bombastic sequence of explosive confrontations to a work of actual art. The music HEALTH created utterly encapsulated the feelings within Max and, thus, invoked them in the player. You felt the melancholy, the anger, the despair, the confusion, the doubt, the erratic thoughts of Max. You and him aligned, and then it was all or nothing to the final bullet.
That's exactly what makes him so dangerous in a nutshell. He doesn't care if he lives or dies ig. He just cares that he tries his absolute best at being a pain in the butt. In my opinion Max has some ounce of preservation, but its only to the degree of "If I die, that's because there was no way out".
When Max killed Becker, avenging the Bronco family and saw Max at the beach, I really felt like he could put his past behind him forever. Much as I would like a Max Payne 4, he earned his rest.
I can see him returning for a Max Payne 4, where he works for a special angency that carries out special missions, perhaps in a different country that brings back the inner-circle exnoration that was used in previous games. Shaved head Max walking around a night-lit Neo-Tokyo in a suit looking for a criminal.
@@peleketorresii9069 If they ever did a Max Payne 4 it should be in New York and he should die at the end in an epic shootout and maybe have some trippy scene where its him with his family again like in gladiator and it could be an almost tragic bittersweet ending which would suit the theme.
In the first chapter, Max could have died and cared less. He was in that kind of downward spiral. When TEARS plays, he blurts out "I do NOT feel like getting blown up today." Character development hidden in plain sight. Unlike most games where you take orders and are silent and dull, here you are a character that chooses not only to fight and do the right thing - even though he kept failing - but chose to develop when he hit rock bottom. Remember when he shaved his head? Right after he quit drinking, so he could fight better and get out of this web of lies and bullshit he was getting sick of. Makes MP3 a quintessential example of a good video game story done right.
my favourite payne game, a man with nothing to lose is dangerous, it's tragic to see what he became in 3 but fucking hell did he earn his way out, we wanted him to be the killer in the end we just wanted to see him be granted peace, no more manipulation or fake anwsers in the botttom of a bottle. Just the peace in knowing who you are, a killer, but not their killer the one who had a family, who once believed in being a cop.
@@SmokinDoinkzboi would it cost more than it did to make the original in the first place (100+ million)? If the answer is yes, Rockstar would probably hand this off to GSG like they did with DE
Sorry to burst your bubble but Max says "I do NOT feel like getting blown up today." if a grenade goes off in his general radius, there's a couple random lines for it in this section and most of the time you'll go through it without hearing a single one.
12:43 - The spatter of gunfire, the roar of the jets, and then this crescendo - a sound resembling an agonised moan of the deepest despair and the gentle whisper of a salvation that only men who are destroyed utterly can long for. That otherworldly melody isn't just background music - it's the deepest, most desperate howl of Max's soul.
11:33 I swear I felt Max's pain. I've never been into a game as much as I was at that moment.. Some people were saying that Max would probably die at the end. I genuinely did not want him to. Amazing music. Amazing game.
Max Payne spends most of the game trying to protect others and failing because he was seeking redemption for letting his close ones die in the past. I think the big turning point in the story when things start going decently well is when he drops seeking redemption and fights to do the right thing no matter how dangerous
+Daniel Foerster He's all about the Payne of it all, Max Payne 3 was completely unexpected, in todays gaming scene, where you expected a sequel to be "meh" or "just as good" as the previous titles, Max Payne 3 blew my mind how good it was.
+Daniel Foerster There's a 10 year gap between 2 & 3. The 4th Chapter could be fitted between that time period. Alternatively, 4 could start just weeks after the events of 3.
The first two movies played by Jon hamm - Mona sax by Bridget moynahan; at the conclusion in more mature or older version Max played by Bryan Cranston!!! that would be a more efficient trilogy cast and better fitted than the horrible miscast they choose with Mark Walhberg and Mila Kunis.
thats right - you got the point in your main view!!! the problem is that you have to apart the main story from a video game to a movie; in the movies you have to create a sympathy for the character and its environment not make gun ballet movie copying an insane action movie without plot... with mark wahlberg they go with that direction and it was mediocre on their actings and their story. The main inspiration is in the Crime drama stories and with a little purpose on the setting that affects the environment around that character especially the part from his wife Michelle Payne that is based upon his revenge against an entire organization then you put that elements from noir movies or bizarre things such as the trail of blood on Max Payne's head follows on his dream in a dark void - very great scene if they put it in the movie- such examples are like: Jacobs Ladder, the tree of life, etc, the director must took inspirations from that impactful scenes (Dark Noir Ambience) = and for last the corruption from the police and his comrades. is not very hard to put it in a movie but they took another direction and make a mess of a production. thanks for your comment, Camarada.
I've just completed this game again after a few years and it always surprises me somehow. Health did a great job with this soundtrack, i even used headphones to live more deeply the max payne experience
''He's actually doing it...'' is what my friend said as Max climb his way into the baggage lane while brandishing a Lighting Hawk.. I was really digging the Neo-Noir vibe of MP3
Almost a baffling degree of sheer abandonment of reasonable restraint, Max throws himself into the lions den and doesn't care whether he makes it or not. But that's entirely the reason that he 'does' - he has nothing to lose, and those up against him can lose everything, because this is the last chance for them to get out of there and complete their plan. But they didn't count on an unholy, fucked-up and pissed off middle-aged American washed out Detective to go on a rampage straight through their well-organised conspiracy.
If there's one thing i want for the upcoming Max Payne remakes, is for HEALTH to come back as the main composers (or at least be a part of it) and bring up absolute bangers such as this one.
9:14 this is directly inspired by the track "Fate Scrapes" from HEAT, where Pacino and the other cops walks in the warehouse, just before going into Alan Marciano's office.
I`m glad that I grew up with those games.... this man taught me to treasure things you have, until you lose them forever. A lot of people say that 3th and last entry of max pain was weak and well... it kiiiiiinda was, but I see this as a win, how many games like that do we have? the ones that ended and never been resurrected into one of those modern shit games
When I beat max payne 3 on hardcore, hearing the song while the plane is about to take off gave me goosebumps while I spammed R and left Click and spammed Q after I landed in a bullet dive
Max really had amazing character development, from a cop who lost his wife and daughter, then lost new girlfriend and on the end to a hero avenging the ones he lost as a security. RIP James McCaffrey, the legend.
am I the only one who noticed that in Grand Theft Auto 5 that Michael and Max almost look the same? and they use the same power, the same suit, both depressed. sound similar?
He's actually supposed to be Al Pacino's character in heat. Actually, gta 5 is heat the video game when you think about it... Edit: Robert d'nearos character. My bad.
