Garou is just Fatal Fury in Japan, mark of the wolves was the only fatal fury game that was named Garou in the U.S.A. But all fatal fury in japan were and are named Garou.

@@eduardomancia4958 To add to that: the Dreamcast localized version was literally called :"Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves". Part of the reason you had this whole "separation" from Western games (besides the localization name changing), is because in the West, home console specific people knew of Fatal Fury 1, Fatal Fury Special and Fatal Fury 2 due to the SNES and Genesis ports. (almost no one could afford a Neo Geo AMS and people skipped the Neo Geo CD console). When Fatal Fury 3 happened though; it didnt get a port on the most popuiar console at the time (the PS1), and to add to that, while it came to the Saturn, it didnt get localized, so only hardcore SNK fans or hardcore Saturn (and Neo Geo console) enthusiasts were importing those. FF3 did get localized to PC via Cyberfront in 1998 but most people werent PC gaming then yet. Then came the Real Bout Fatal Fury series which was a slight revamp of sorts. Some might even say the first one was sort of a remake of FF1. And while that one did come to the PS1 in 1997, it only got localized to the EU. Then came Real Bout Fatal Fury Special which also came to the Saturn and PS1 with the Dominated Mind version, but again; only stayed in Japan for both console versions. Then in 1998 we got Real Bout Fatal Fury 2, the "7th title in the Fatal Fury series" (despite its "2" moniker in the title) because as I stated, the "Real Bout" was kinda treated as a different subseries similar to how "Street Fighter Alpha/Zero series" was treated as a sup series that soft rebooted the first Street Fighter game, canonically putting it before Street Fighter 1,2,3 etc. But with the Real Bout series, the first one kinda rewrites the first Fatal Fury. But then again you can argue the first Street Fighter Alpha, despite being also called Street Fighter 0, kinda rewrote Street Fighter 1 in some ways. And Real Bout Fatal Fury by 1998, since the Saturn was pretty much dead by then, only got ported to the Neo Geo and the Neo Geo CD; so yeah outside actual arcade cabinets, most people didnt play it at home. Moreover, only the Neo Geo one got localized this time; the Neo Geo CD one stayed in Japan. Then in 1999, SNK put out the HyperNeoGeo64 arcade trilogy of games: This included Buriki One, an experimental style fighting game with an all new cast of characters with only Art of Fighting's Ryo Sakazaki making it over, Samurai Shodown64, which was actually pretty good, and Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition. Out of those three, only Wild Ambition got ported to console (PS1) and localized. Though it got mixed reviews as a 3D fighter, most kinda overlooked or ignored it. Next there was Fatal Fury: First Contact on the Neo Geo Pocket Color, which was localized , but.....how many people really bought a Neo Geo Pocket Color back in the day outside Japan? meh Finally in 1999, we got "Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves" on Sega Dreamcast. This was actually THE official U.S. localized Sega Dreamcast title name. So why is it that most people in the West still refer to it as "Garou" like its it's own game? Because the Sega Dreamcast localized version came out on November 23rd 2001, while the localized Arcade version in arcades came out in 1999, and in the arcades it was titled: in the U.S. as "Garou: Mark of the Wolves". So for 2 years, people in the West knew the game as "Garou: Mark of the Wolves" despite the fact that in Japan, the series has always been called "Garou Densetsu" (Legend of the Hungry Wolf or whatever that translates to) in 2005 there was a PS2 port but it was never localized. So most people, either played it on Dreamcast or Arcade, or through Emulation (NeoRage X) on PC which was one of the first good running arcade emulators way back in the early 00's (hell I think I remember playing it in 2001 on PC), and of course arcades, and as such, knew the name as "Garou: Mark of the Wolves" Mind you, the game itself was received quite well even back then and some even had it ranked toe to toe to SF3, praising even its animation. And as mentioned, there had been a gap of Western players really digging into the Fatal Fury series since Fatal Fury 2/Fatal Fury Special on home console, so there was that. To them, Garou was "the first game of its kind", and thus so far removed from Fatal Fury 2/Special, that it was to them considered a 'new series". But in all actuality "Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves" is essentially the 8th Fatal Fury game since the story continues after Real Bout Fatal Fury's main ending (Terry) in which Terry defeated Geese then adopted his son Rock Howard.(Real Bout Fatal Fury Special and Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 werent really story related in that sense so they were treated more as dream matches) And so then of course "Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves" was a time skip to which we now see an older Rock Howard in his teens. So basically yeah long story short; for many, Garou was their 'first Fatal Fury" and since for 2 years in the arcades before the DC port, in emulation on NeoRage X, and in later ports on the Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Playstation vita, Xbox One, it continued to be called "Garou: Mark of the Wolves" despite the original home console port in 2001 was called "Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves"; and many "Garou" fans have altogether even ignored the older Fatal Fury entries as such, even though all of them have been ported to newer consoles by now. Now what will this new title be called? Fatal Fury/Garou Mark of the Wolves 2? Fatal Fury Garou 9? (doubt it) Or a new title altogether but keeping the Fatal Fury/Garou in front of it? Either way, its a new Fatal Fury/Garou game in 23 years. Thats the most important factor

That sub series is a mixed bag lol . On one hand the janky gameplay is so jank that its actually fun On the other hand, the costume designs are so far out there they are cringe fest but in some ways guilty pleasure fun. But on the other hand, despite Luise being liked for 2 obvious big reason; her, Alba and gay cowboy looking Soiree always felt like off replacements of Terry, Andy and Mai despite them not playing anything like them. Like they were Falcoon's attempt at making his own Fatal Fury story but with some new goofy ass characters; so you add that to the 3D janky gameplay not everyone got on board with (much like Wild Ambition back in the day), and the goofy costumes, and thats why you dont get most people asking for that series to come back . There was still some fun to be had in those games though hence the mix bag. But goddamn was that game cringy lol But yeah, most people did not like those characters especially the Meira brothers, with them being the sole focus story wise of those games and their bad fashion sense. They kinda remind me of the two main characters SNK wants us to focus on now in KoF 14 and KoF 15: aka Shun'Ei and Meitenkun, (two characters so dull I cant even remember their names). So yeah I dont think SNK wanna go back to that memory lane of Maximum Impact where overall, it just wasnt a well received subseries. Like I always thought it was odd KoF 14 threw use "Love Heart", "Alice", and "Muimui", three characters from non fighting games that came from some obscure Pachinko entries in the dark times of SNK. So if SNK never brings back those three (they might who knows now that we're getting another season pass next year), I doubt most people will miss them. But yeah I just dont see SNK going back to that gravesite and digging up the corpses of Alba, Soiree and Luise to shoehorn into KoF 15 when we still got a bunch of other characters to choose from to put it, Hell, I'd prefer more Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting entries over them tbh, heck even some Savage Reign and Rage of the Dragons in there for once.

@@budgiecat9039 btw do you know why some KoFMI2 designs were "cringe"? Falcoon, the executive producer for this one for the first time, was asked to do alternate designs for characters that should appear like they were original characters, basically he was forced to stretch his artistic lengths for alternate costumes besides simple recolours. And because he had issues in the long run there have been like references to other games, movies or even animes for quite some costumes, which I think adds alot to the charm of that game! Also who likes Luise for her chest? From what I get, thje whole mystical being/aura presence of her alongside her slick dark butterfly design is what people draw on her. If you wanna call out someone to like a character for their chestsizes it's people being thirsty for Lien Neville or Mai Shiranui. Also suprisingly there are quite some folks who ask for a KoFMI2 continuation, maybe with less "Falcoon is doing all the work designwise" approach and more of a "we streamline what we got already and continue the arc of Alba, Soiree and Luise alongside Duke's in another series" tackle. Also cuz Maximum Impact 3 back then was in development but was canceled because SNK needed staff to work on KoF12 before that became KoF13 later down. If you know the story on KoF13 then you understand why it's the way it is and what had to be sacrificed for it, with sadly too little fanfare with how much cost was put in for that game.

@@Evilriku13 If there was a Maximum Impact 3, Falcoon woulda been gone by then anyway. I had no objections to the gameplay itself actually; I just hated Falcoon's designs and I also hated his artwork outside the Maximum Impact series. I just thought his work was ugly
