MAX REACTS: Guilty Gear Strive - Asuka R♯ Reveal & Gameplay 

I love how they took the humble, respectful, but socially inept Asuka from the Story and mixed back some of his villain traits to ensure you KNOW he's important even if you aren't following GG lore.

Asuka has everything. He has the style. The theme. The zone range. But most importantly...he has *THE Js*

his cape is so serious. He literally has the universe inside of it

He wields a spellbook and does a ton of random magic spells along with multiple crosses on his outfit. I'm surprised he isn't named Testament.

Asuka having to "draw" spells like cards from a deck has the same energy as Happy Chaos using mainly guns. Both of them are the most powerful characters in the entire series, and their limiting factors are the fact that they're essentially playing a different game. Asuka plays Magic: the Gathering while Chaos plays Call of Duty.

I know I've said this about a lot of the cast in this game, but Asuka is legitimately one of the best animated characters I've seen in a while, and this is all animated in 3D. The new stage as well just oozes style.

It's about time That Man became a playable character in the Guilty Gear series.

Asuka has a barrier mechanic where as long as he has magic, he doesnt take as much damage. Blue bar. But if he uses all of his magic to 0 or if its hit out of him, he explodes and cant use spells until he gets his gauge back.

I feel like asukas outfit is more of a brainfuck than even bedman. They said: You get all the lore stuff from all previous games at once!

To me he feels a lot like a mix between platinum and nine from Blazblue in how you can throw stuff from your stocks, fill it up again and find something that you desperately need

How many of us have wondered how That Man would actually operate as a playable character? After nearly 30 years of Guilty Gear lore, this is a welcome sight to behold!

I think the health bar thing negates chip damage since you can see him use health to refill his gauge, and he can't cast spells when the aura is gone. The number seems to indicate how many spells he can cast, but it's almost like he's got stances or something because you can also see different icons around the number that he swaps between. This dude is definitely going to be a character for lab monsters given all the random elements and having to know how each spell interacts with others or what opponent characters can do against it.

I get a lot of Nine The Phantom vibes from all these variations of spells and thier properties and the how much screen control Asuka can potentially have with the likely complexity of his mechanics😮 🔥 8:12 = i didnt realize the shoes till my friend pointed it out! 😂

It really looks like the Tir Na Nog is the space station that Asuka now lives on in space. The space station where he finally starts his podcast career.

From what I can tell, it is actually pretty similar to a card fighter. You have access to a "hand" of 4 spell "cards" at a time, drawn from a "deck" of possible spells. The number is like the remaining cards in your deck; whenever you "draw" a card to your hand, the number decreases. It seems as if the secondary meter is spent by casting, but hitting spells refills it. As the meter approaches emptiness, more slots gradually get locked out; if it empties completely, you lose access to spells until it refills. If the meter is full, hitting spells will refill your deck to 30. I'm not sure if it's all spells, but some recover meter on hit. There is also a special used (5:59) that restores the deck to 30 and another (9:06) that rerolls the hand at a cost of 4 stocks. It appears as though the super (10:08) lets you combine spells, and the other (11:21) recharges meter even on block. One The spells and meter have different colors. The spells are purple, orange, red, tan, blue, and green. One of the green spells (10:46) caused passive meter gain (it also turned it green but I'm guessing that's just to show that it's increasing), another green spell (5:57) turns the meter orange and adds a fire effect (I'm not positive, but it seems like this reduces the meter cost for spells). After one of the tan spells is used (11:11), the fourth slot never refills, but the remaining three have some sort of effect added (I think they refill instantly). This happens earlier (6:38) with the same effects. Another tan spell (4:47) is used to shuffle remaining spells, and one (5:25) refills empty slots. The slot-refilling one does NOT restore slots locked out by effects of the previously mentioned tan spell (6:38). This leads me to believe tan spells are related to spell management and green spells have meter-related effects, which suggests broader color correlation, but I can't be arsed to investigate further. If anyone notices anything else interesting, let me know. P.S. - the R# is pronounced "R-sharp". it appears to use the sharp symbol instead of the regular octothorpe.

I thought Nine at first, in terms of BlazBlue characters, but looking at his resource he seems to be more like Platinum. His resource is basically her random items.

Seems like the green around his health is a forcefield that buffs his defense and stops chip damage, but when it breaks he has the lowest Def in the game. The bar above his tension seems to change colors and loading speeds. So I'm guessing the loadout of his spells effects the bar, the bar recharges the number of spells he has, and the spells change the spells in the 4 slots. Complete guess though.

As someone that plays mainly mage characters in fighting games and well faust main this is great havent played strive in quite some time

That blue bar around his health looks like a defence buff that he looses when he's out of mana. He also looses mana when taking damage (including chip damage)

It seems the purple bar is his "mana", the pages are "spells", numbers is how many total he can use (can be refilled with a special, it seems?] And the aura around the health could be a defense buff that drops if he uses certain attacks? He seems insanely fun, tbh

It's crazy to think that we will all eventually adapt to this and know everything how it works and how to counter it

I’m glad, and maybe it’s tied to how there’s been a ressurgence, that during COVID I got into fighting games when there’s so much good stuff coming up. It’s really made me much happier and I’ve have an easier time getting into it

That Man even I can tell was a long time coming in the main villain for the whole verse in they show that in presents and presentation I just can't get over how cool is galaxy cloak looks, doing all this crazy stuff. They got to drop Dizzy and El in season 3, the two most popular characters already in the game, since here too and now I got you start all this you gotta keep up that momentum

Looks like they took Nine's normals from blazblue and gave them a buffed version of trinity's drive. Get 4 randomly slotted move for your specials and you get a charge of each or so before the slot rerolls to a new move.

Makes sense he has those shoes. He was a scientist with Frederick, he'd have to have some quirks. Maybe he's a football/soccer fan.

I love being a folklore and mythology nerd, and I love that Japanese game developers are folklore and mythology nerds as well. Tír na nÓg, the Land of The Young, was, in Celtic mythology, the otherworldly realm of the Tuatha Dé Dannan, the People of the Godess Danu. Some of them were gods, some of them were demi-gods, others were at least part fomorians/giants, some of them were faeries, all of them were definitely anime protagonists about 1500-2000 years before anime was even a thing.

Based on the gameplay, his unique meter is required to cast what is available in his "hand". Every time he receives damage or casts something, he loses meter. When it's out, he loses his passive shield; increasing damage received and can't use meter for 10 seconds. You can compare the damage when Sol does a normal grab in the gameplay when the shield is up and when it's down (Max is blocking the Asuka's health receives when his shields up, so watch the gameplay video; 4:31 and 4:48 respectively) It also appears when he casts something, he augments them by using his health. The number counter might also be the amount of casts he has in total, kind of like a deck of sorts.

The fact that Max had that Simpsons picture at ready is kind of insanely impressive.

The english VA for him is Uryū Ishida from bleach, im probably not good enough at the game to master him but for that reason alone i'm going to try

I love the new direction they've put into with a lot of the newer DLC characters for Strive. Though I do wish they added that dedication to gimmicks/complexity to some of their base roster. I'd LOVE for Faust to have what this new character has-a series of tabs that shows what he's about to pull out of his ass next for you to plan around, and a way to reshuffle or discard draws in a way that either expends a small amount of meter or a small amount of HP. And some more ways for Giovanna to use her dog as a second half of her character rather than a green scarf

I've never played a fighting game consistenly and this is my first. Which i love so much, i know its easier compared to other but man feels good to get gut at a fighting game. Solbadguy main for life
