The League universe fits a fighting game so well. I've always found it a bit disappointing how it had so many cool character designs but you couldn't fully appreciate them in-game because they're tiny moba-game characters. Also, i'm calling it right now: Ahri nude mods are gonna be a thing like in the first week after release lol

For anyone upset that he said "it's not about newcomers beating the pros," the implication is that a newcomer will have to put in the work to become that good, not just rely on controls. You can do that AND simplify control schemes to let the reads and mechanics shine through.

I have said this for every game that Riot has come out with in the Runeterra universe. I love everything about League of Legends except League of Legends.

the thing is, that cerebral "neuron firing" feeling that Max gets when watching fighting games and feeling like "what just happened, but that's cool, how can i do that?" is what drives a TON of people to play League, it's just in a different medium. It's no surprise they took that concept and brought it here too. i am HYPED

I love to see Max this excited for something, it's genuinely warm and uplifting. I love when you watch someone and you KNOW they're speaking about something that really moves them at their core, as new/refreshing entrants into the fighting game world do for our homey, here. I just wanted to say that seeing your genuine enthusiasm was really quite lovely, Max - your "neurons firing" comments are how I feel when I see FromSoft trailers, for example.

16:23 this graphic isn't meant to show that they're using dedicated servers, just that they're routing traffic (likely p2p traffic) through their own networking backbone. this hides player ip addresses and can often decrease latency, so it's a smart thing to do if you have the resources (steam offers this to developers too, for example).

"Gameplay should be inspiring." I think this is true for all games. In my opinion there should always be an element of "I want to play this game because of how cool it looks when I watch someone else play it".

They really know what theyre doing by releasing this trailer the same day as the Arcane season finale.

My jaw dropped when they showed the new art style of the game. I’m already excited for the tournaments coming. Hopefully they continue to show more characters and details early next year

I appreciate Max geeking out over the technical stuff in the trailer and explaining how it is emblematic of certain design philosophies being baked into the game. I mean, to me it just looks cool even without knowing much about it, but Max laying out what's being signified makes me more excited about the game in the future.

Honestly by looking at how they put jinx in the game I can imagine a large part of the league of legends roster being able to be put into the game other than the melee characters I'm excited

One enormously important aspect of fighting games is cool character design, and coming up with those can be difficult. League's been doing cool character designs for literally a decade. There's so much pre-built material for game designers to work with in League. There's everything from horror monsters (Fiddlesticks or Hecarim) to cute mascots (Yuumi or almost any Yordle) to outright psychopaths like Jhin. And they're all incredibly well designed, with backstories, the works. These first games out of Riot Forge are really goddamn promising.

Whenever we get a release date for this, it'd be cool to have Max watch the cinematics from recent years, I think it's a really neat way to get people excited for the characters.

The art style is great! Which is one of the most important things for fighting games to get people to actually get interested.

God, the art style and the motion and the colors and the sheer POP of the characters are all the best that I've seen in a long time. This also makes me really really hope that the Runeterra-themed MMO does get finished and ends up being great. I want a modern MMO full of this juicy aesthetic.

Man I still just love max's intro so much, I wish I knew animation so I could make something like that featuring some of my fave game characters, its so hype and sets a great tone for max's content. My friend just told me about this game (he also got me into Guilty Gear and many others) and it looks really awesome!

Man, this is crazy! I've been in love with Runeterra for a very long time, though I just can't get into League itself, I still love Legends of Runeterra, and Team Fight Tactics! I'm so glad Riot is getting into other games now too so we can all experience Runeterra our own way!

The fact that this is set in the League verse and they want to develop the game over the years means that it could have a n increasingly massive roster of characters. I'm so excited!

Project L went from "It might be alright, I'll probably check it out when it's out but we'll see" to "I NEED THIS!" In the span of one update. Tag team, fun first and crazy gameplay did wonders to get me hyped.

A vertical slice is meant to be an end-to-end representation of what the experience could be, and is meant to be delivered as quickly as possible. Some pieces of the slice may be created such that they will be reused or extended in the full game, but many pieces are "fake" - they get the job done for the slice but may have poor performance, may not be resilient to errors, may not communicate with other systems, and may not be easily extendable. This slice seems to represent Riot's goal - I mean, they just showed it off! - but they probably have to rebuild 70%+ of what's shown here for the final game. And that's before they start adding the tons of characters and stages and content the game is sure to have. Also, I think the networking tech stack is just meant to show that, just like League of Legends, Project L is going to have a best in class online experience - and not just how it plays and feels responsive, but also in the social systems, ranking gains and losses, rewards for sportsmanlike play, penalties for leavers, etc. Project L will likely have progression systems just like League, wherein players can grind to unlock new characters and skins. It will also likely have seasonal and other events. Basically, if you're a fighting game player unfamiliar with League of Legends you should buckle up for the breadth of experience Project L is going to deliver.

I'm gonna imagine that the art style is taking advantage of their recent push to have their 3d Netflix show and their mobile/console version of league to have much more animated and detailed models. I wouldn't be surprised if the art or structural assets are being somewhat shared.

The fact that I played the moba for 10+ years being put into different genres and a netflix show reignited my love for this brand. So many games to play from one company now.. I would have never thought about this when I began my league journey years ago.

Really like that it looks like they going for the simple imputs but lots of unique moves and synergies and combos and stuff to make up for that

Riot is straight up killing it recently. Arcane is one of the best shows on Netflix rn, their turn based game is really well done, and now this? It's insane!!

I think a lot of league's visual stuff will transfer nicely, cause characters are tiny on screen so they already have good silhouettes and some nice keyframes to make them pop. Blowing that up and adding some texture with the new models is bound to look pretty sick. Can't wait to see the facial anims in like 1-2 yrs.

I'm primarily just a spectator of fighting games (especially KI), but I'm getting the strong impression this Project L game might be the one to inspire me to finally get a fight stick. The colorful animations and fluid movements are just so dang dope.

Single button input for specials initially had me a little wary, but after playing a ton of the rising thunder beta I completely loved it. Makes it so you focus more on the fight and less concerned about key input timing. Another thing I really liked about Rising Thunder was mid round special switching to better fit the match up.

Seeing Max get so hyped for this is amazing. I was pretty excited for the game as a fan of League also a fan of fighting games. Seeing him so Hyped is amazing~

I've been waiting like 3 years for riot to do something with their Rising Thunder assets. I'm glad they didn't totally abandon the design choices that made Rising Thunder unique. I figured that they would keep project L similar to Rising Thunder or else they wouldn't have bought the IP, but I didn't really expect it to be a tag fighter. I'm really excited to see how the complexity in project L develops!

I love this timeline we live in where we dont need to go into the hellscape that is League Of Legends to experience the setting and lore of the world of Runeterra. We have the Arcane netflix series , the Ruined King RPG game, the Legends of Runeterra card game and now we gonna have Project L. Good time to not be a League player.

Ohh yes , Ekko was already a great character from LoL.... So is Darius. But Ekko looks insanely good as a Fighting game character. Characters shown in this Project L game are just 4 so far : 1- Ekko , the teen white hair dude with the Cricket Bat and his Time rewind capsule on his back.... A great Melee Magic character from LoL. 2- Ahri , the nine tailed mage chick with her Blue Orb.... Overall great and nimble Magic build character from LoL. 3- Jinx , the Blue haired crazy Jinx... She uses Trick ranged weapons sort of , her Gatling Gun and transform into the Shark Rocket Launcher... Overall a great ranged DPS from LoL. 4- Darius , finally the Bulky executioner with the Axe.... A tanky and reliable Melee Warrior who has insane Physical Damage and Physical Resistence along with HP from League of Legends. 💯 *Note* : There are currently 140 Champions in League of Legends , we only seen just a glimpse of 4 of them here ( Ekko , Ahri , Jinx and Darius ). 😅

a fighting game that does 1v1 and a 4 player, 2v2 system has always been a dream of mine. You and your best bud both into fighting games working as a team to fight 2 others in a competitive way. How awesome is that! What a step forward in team based esports. =o

DOA5LR has 2v2 tag and can run pretty great sometimes even on it's delay based netcode. Obviously not always the case but it is possible. Side note every one should try it, such an underrated game in the fgc

A vertical slice is a software development term referring to a fully built out small piece of functionality. More than just a proof of concept, it's a ready potentially shippable increment that is just one small part of a larger whole. All that to say, we can expect the finished product to look a LOT like what's been shown here in the teaser. While this specific piece could be considered Done, this is just one small slice of done functionality; much much more is still in the works. proof of concept = testing of ideas/ideation/experiment and easily disposable. vertical slice = a finished increment, for all intents and purposes Done unless there's a change in requirements.

seeing that league of legends is a team based game, it makes sense project L would be a team fighter

I want a 3 players vs. 3 players mode like they had in DBFZ. One of my favorite things in any fighting game was being able to have 6 people in one match screaming to tag each other

Some of the character skills are gonna be nutty in a 2D fighting space. Ekkos rewind is just straight up nasty. Now imagine Katarina with her daggers and teleport, Twisted Fate with his different cards, Jhin with 4th shot being critical, Gangplank barrels.. this is gonna be a dope fighter. Riot has really unique character designs as well and this art style is just perfect to me for some reason. All I ask, is no Teemo 😂🤦🏿‍♂️

You should watch the arcane show that is based on league of legends on Netflix that just came out, it is a masterpiece and a 100% worth a watch even if you are not a league player, and it is great at introducing the champions of league.

I remember trying to play LoL for a handful of months. I just could not learn and get better at it, no matter how hard I tried. It reached a point where I thought it was actively breeding depression, so I walked away. It had some very fun, interesting characters, though. Can't wait to see how Shen translates to Project L.

The game itself looks and sounds like it will be great, particularly since they already have a deep pool of characters to pull from. What I'm almost even more excited for, though, is to see if it grows the FGC as a whole, and in regards to esports. I wonder if Riot will end up doing something similar to Capcom Cup, even.

4-player fighting is fun as hell. Years back I used to play Marvel vs Capcom with people from a chat room, using MAME+Kaillera which allowed each person to control a character, and we had a blast doing 2v2 pairs trying to develop synergy with each other.

I used to play League damn near everyday back in 2014 for a couple of years, eventually just lost time and grew out of it. But I have fond memories playing it for countless of hours with friends. I was never really into MMO's or PC gaming back then, but the characters and the lore of LoL is what kept me coming back. Everytime Riot would pull out a cinematic or animation video I'd always say "Riot needs to make a movie or animated show about League." And that happened with Arcane and I always thought some LoL champions and the crazy things they can do would translate so well into a fighting game..And now we're here! I would love to hear Max's take on some of the champions designs and maybe see his reaction to some of the cinematic videos Riot has done over the years.

Hopefully, this will be the fighting game that pulls in gamers from all sorts of backgrounds. So that you'll have high level players for all different kinds of fighting games and games in general, propagating all sorts of fighting styles and techniques. The level of innovation and creativity is going to be insane. This would be big, not only for fighting games but for games in general.

considering TFT ( teamfight tactics) a strategic mini game in league of legends that has become really popular, released recently duo playmade. the 2v2 champs 1v1 gamemode and actual 2v2 (4players) matchmade system being a thing. sounds very plausible.
