@@FreeToUseSounds hey thanks for the reply, i have it now all setup and yes the xlr cable is long enough for both inputs 👌 I am really happy with the h8 and the microphone and have recorded many sounds already. The next things i have to buy are a wind screen and the softie mount for the BP4025. Without them its a bit complicated to record sounds (outside). And i think i need another xlr cable because the one from the BP4025 is very long and when i want to record outside its always on the ground and i cant go around with it. Thanks again for making these videos, you really helped me to understand how everything works :) Right now I am working on my first track with the sounds i have recorded and maybe i will even release an EP at the end of the year. Have a nice day, week and month ✌

Another great video guys.I always look forward to your videos and the SOMA Ether recordings you just released are excellent. I've just ordered one myself. Just one question, I've sourced a lot alternative for the solutions you've demonstrated but there is one that I really want to get correct which is the wind protection. The Windjammer looks and sounds like the ideal option but I just have one question. Is the link in the description above the right Windjammer to work with the XY capsule for my Zoom h5. It seems to for a Baby Ball?

That’s so great to hear :). Oh yes I just checked the link and not sure how that happened. I’m at the airport right now and will change the link when I’m at the hotel. Do you want the Rycote one or the WSU 01? I think for the H5 Rycote has a different one.

Can you recommend what earphones with *OHM* level to get? Thank you.
@FreeToUseSounds
@FreeToUseSounds 10 месяцев назад
Hello Gabriel, You raise an important point, but typically, the OHM level isn't the main factor to consider when selecting headphones for field recording. To give you a couple of examples, the Sony MDR-7506 Professional headphones have an impedance of 63 OHMs and are highly recommended for field recording. On the other hand, the Professional Studio Monitor Headphones with an impedance of 38 ohms are another excellent option - I had the chance to test them out recently, and they truly delivered. In the end, the choice of impedance really depends on the equipment you're using. If your gear is professional-grade with a robust amplifier, higher impedance headphones could work well. However, if you're using a consumer-level device, lower impedance headphones might be a better fit. Hope this helps!

Quick question, what's your opinion on using both a universal dead cat AND foam popfilters on the capsules themselves? That should get rid of pretty much any wind noise no?
@FreeToUseSounds
@FreeToUseSounds Год назад
Hi! You get rid of some wind noise but not all. That's why baskets are so important. You need space between the microphones and the protection. The Cinela or Rycote we have are great.
@Drinkyoghurt
@Drinkyoghurt Год назад
@@FreeToUseSounds Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. Obviously after spending some cash on a Tascam X8 I want to get the rest as cheap as possible, but I’ve realized with a lot of audio gear that that’s a golden unicorn. Great channel btw, super niche but really valuable!
@FreeToUseSounds
@FreeToUseSounds Год назад
@@Drinkyoghurt Hmm, think about it this way for the future: prioritize putting your money as close to the sound source as possible. This means investing more in quality microphones and wind protection rather than the recorder.

When recording, getting audio, and final audio outcome after all edits, will sample rate make a big difference in quality for mainly field recording audio like yours? For example: 16bit / 44.1kHz VS 24bit / 48kHz? I want to get a 16bit/44.1kHz device but if 24bit/48kHz makes a big difference and you recommend it then I'll aim for that instead. Thank you!

Hi Marcel! I have been using the Rycote Zoom H4n and H6 kit for some time and there are no viable alternatives around. What I don't like about the grip hand is that the weight of the Zoom H6 is too much for that system that often makes the recorder tilt even when tightened. The Rycote windjammers are great

@GiancarloBiondi 3 года назад
@@FreeToUseSounds Yes, I immediately saw this at 05:29 of your video. Yes, it is the only way even if it makes the possibility of the recorder tilt useless. The version for the zoom H4n also had the tightening with the screw and not with the wheel so you had to have with you a multi tool or a screwdriver to tighten it often. I ordered (not for the Zoom of course) the Rycote PCS 185807 adapter to mount a microphone with the Classic Softie by replacing part of the Rycote pistol grip: here the clamping lever is Manfrotto style so it looks better
@FreeToUseSounds
@FreeToUseSounds 3 года назад
Well if you just want to record stationary you can always change the angle. But for walking around you,can just tilt with the hand. I look into the one you ordered.

Hi. Thanks for your very good and useful videos. Since you don't use the H8 with external mics, maybe you should consider to look after the Sony PCM-D100. I've used (and still have !) a H5 for years, and there is no comparaison between the two. In term of preamps and in-board mics quality, it's day and night. Awesome autonomy, great build quality that makes it very durable even in humidity or cold, etc... And much more compact than the H8. That's my humble advice, if ever you want to consider another handled recorder. Cheers !
