Something I include in all my kits is a tampon. Water filtration, medical gauze (it's sterile), fire tinder, and... well... a tampon.If it's in a plastic wrapper, it's also water proof. Just an idea.

I like your videos, but I'd emphasize other stuff in an EDC kit. Carry battery/charger for your cell phone. Carry something to keep you drier, and warmer..like a shell jacket, and hat, and maybe gloves. Carry a real water container. That's the stuff to carry long before packing a fishing kit and blade sharpener. I do like watching your videos. I hope this was constructive criticism, and not crabbiness on my part.

I do have jacket I keep in my bag.. this is more like a grab and go glove box type kit.

Keep in mind that the sharpener is not just a sharpener. It is a multi use piece of kit. Like a fire starter...

@DropForgedSurvival I suggest the sawyer water filtration system, it's a little bigger than the life straw but it's $25 and lasts for a lifetime, if u could fit it in, in my opinion it's a better option

Go wax paper and a paint pen for wilderness. Paint pen, when dry, won't ruin (I would test that on wax paper) and any message you leave behind is certain not to get wiped out by the rain

Very impressive, and as you say, it is comprehensive as far as you could get it for the amount of space you had available in your Maxpedition EDC Pouch. One thing that I would suggest for a kit that would go along with it, rather than in it, would be a firearm and a couple of spare magazines.
@DropForgedSurvival
@DropForgedSurvival 7 лет назад
Luigi Long That isnt bad but suggestive between person to person... Pew pew must be a personal choice regarding “self defense” and typically a sidearm doesnt make the best “hunting” tool. However when looking at the “more complete version” of the rig.. A Knife, Firearm, Bow, Slingshot for hunting, etc is pretty interchangeable person to person and all are overall are useful
@LuigiLong

I agree, very subjective. However, I thought I would mention it.

Can I just add, I have been hyper critical of certain subscription boxes/ reviews in the past....however?.....every view/ like/ unlike generates interest and benefits the person/ persons doing the actual item review. Keep it up...I will still watch them!.

Nice kit! I doubt you could get a 55 drum liner in there for extra shelter or a bandana, but you might be able to fit: some cash, 1 or more extra bags for water (even one those grocery meat and veggie bags folded up is about the size of a couple cash bills and carries about a gallon of water... water is really important and since you don't have a container, I think an extra one would be good at minimum), and a couple extra water tabs (again, since you won't be able to boil much water and travel with it easily), a couple twist ties or rubber bands or etc (to tie bags to trees to collect dew water), some full zip ties (you can pull a bit of the bag apart at the edge seams and slip zip ties in there and they will go around the edging on the inside... maybe mezillch has a video about that? but yeah, it was a neat hack that I enjoyed), more foil & maybe some floral wire to make a sturdy hanging cup... to make space for some of this you could easily lose the second pen and just carry a fisher insert for if the other runs out and you don't need the spring assist or you could easily put a resque me (spring assist glass breaker & seat belt cutter keychain) on the zipper pulls with the bracelet if you are keeping it in your car. You could also put some gorilla tape on your lighter or some hemp wick. You could slip in a bit of thread & needles etc (your one kit you didn't show in this video might have this already... and a compass even). I just like the 10 C's as much as possible in survival kits ;) Anyway, it is a really good kit and no matter what people would have ideas of things to add. I think this does a great job to pack a lot of practical quality gear into a small space. Great job ;)

Very well done and well thought out. In these videos, it is hard to truly criticize (I mean, you can) because these are items that are perceived to be needed by the individual. Plus, you have to consider need, distance, weather, transport methods, etc. So, I watch each to get ideas and not to shred the creator. In short, well done!

Way too many fire starters.... Take 2 not 20. I always recommend a 2 bandanas and a dollar store rain poncho. Not sure what the medic kit has, but I would always include Ibuprofen, benadryl, and Imodium pills, 5 alcohol wipes, 10 1" bandages, a triple antibiotic cream. An emergency blanket would be good too. I always recommend a hatchet. Instead of the toilet kit I would get a pouch of baby wipes as they can be used for many things. For a larger kit with food, do not buy the pills or the MREs, just get beef jerky packs (or pepperoni sticks), tuna pouches, crackers snack packs, granola bars, dried fruit and nuts packs, instant oatmeal, cup of soup, some drink mix packs (or tea/coffee bags), some gum and a chocolate bar and put this in a ziplock for each day. Put say 5-10 of these packs and a jerry can in a bag with a metal water bottle. I usually also recommend some gloves, a knit hat, a pair of socks and underwear, some soap, and something to make a shelter out of (thin tarp). The paracord and snare line is good as well as some hooks, line, and pinch sinkers. I also would include a Kel-Tec PMR30 and 3 clips of 30 .22 magnum hollow points... small, light, not bad for hunting small game and defense if needed, and it is very small and light.

Thanks for chiming in Todd. I build kits that work for me. I find gaps and holes I want to fill and include I find necessary for me. This kit will not work "as is" for everyone. Thanks for sharing what you might put in your own kit. Great to hear differing Opinions.
@toddabbott781
@toddabbott781 6 лет назад
Yup. I actually got inspired by all of these survival kit video and am making my own. I got the generic stuff. I think for a kit about the same as this I can include things to just make your life better. I'm shooting more for a backpack kit with food, but taking out the food, camping pans, water bottle, and hatchet and I have a kit about that size, but I think I have all the basics covered well... medical, fire, food collection, water safety, shelter, light, and knife. I am waiting for some stuff in the mail to finish the kit. For some reason the local store did not have emergency blankets. I just see too many kits that include 20 fire starters, a full triage kit and mountain climbing gear, a ninja cutlery selection, and enough flash lights to light up a runway... but do not include toilet paper, an extra pair of socks and underwear, diarrhea pills, bandanas, and a rain poncho. I also recommend 5 days food. No matter how resourceful you are you usually need to travel to a safer spot with food and water available and supplies to make a more permanent shelter. Many also tend to have lots of bulky, heavy, and expensive storage containers. I went for cheap and simple. In mine everything including the food and hatched and bottle of water would fit in a typical school backpack and weigh about 20 pounds.

Nice kit you've got fire covered and since you asked the missing item that popped into my head would some sort of supplements other than caffeine gum.. maybe replace some fire starter for some survival Tabs or something of the like..fuel for the body is just as important as fuel for a fire..Having means to cook is great but it's possible to find yourself skunked With nothing to eat..

@bongkey2210
@bongkey2210 4 года назад
If you're trying to survive, the calories it takes to keep a light wound is not worth it. For the space, a AA or AAA flashlight will do the same thing
@zBMatt
@zBMatt 4 года назад
As contrary to tiny's post, the calories burned to wind a flashlight are so close to the calories you burn just being alive that it doesn't matter , however most kit builders on you tube are only interested in the cool stuff like knives and guns. Other things you'll see are usually the exact same and have no real thought or customization to that specific person as they are an after thought.

I made up one like that for a smaller pouch. Concept is excellent, but the knockoff pouch is falling apart. Time to get a Maxpedition. Anyway, let's see if we can stuff some more into yours! I put a Milsurp Triangle Bandage which is still sealed into the Web Pocket on the Front. Hate having to deal with Big Bleeds with a T-Shirt. On the inside, I put a key chain flashlight on one of the inside tabs, just in case I'm looking for something in there after dark. I hate having to hold a Light in my mouth. Put a few Zip Ties in one of the back pockets. Finally, I put a couple of Cheap Bandanas right on top of everything because, well Bandannas! Really won't take up much room, and it's all cheap insurance. Hope this helps.

You haven't left any space for your travel guitar! It has many uses - strings for making snares. body for tinder/fuel and from the the neck (plus a ranger band) you could make a sling shot. Impressive, Chris! The pack itself looks to be very well-made and what you have chosen to put into it makes it very valuable in terms of the amount/type of gear packed together in a small 'footprint'. You could stash something like thing pretty much anywhere. I took a quick look at some of the comments, and there were some good suggestions. That being said, people must realize that such a kit must be tailored to the individual/family that will be using the kit. For example, a person with diabetes would most definitely have what is needed in their kit to manage that, since not having those things would be life threatening to them. Excellent video, Chris. Keep up the good work. On a completely different topic: would you mind fielding some questions on knife repair, mainly on minor damage to some serrations? Since you use a number of social media, what is the best way to get my questions to you, so it does not get lost in the "noise" so to speak?

LOL why’d you put waterproof firestarters in a waterproof container? Out of curiosity how many ways to start a fire have you ditched in a year?

wow.... you ever see or read or hear about something that makes things 'click' & puts that light bulb on above your head? I've tried to put things like this together (not this well done, of course, but I try) a few times but if I add enough items to make it truly useful it's too big to carry around everyday. I feel like such an idiot now but for some reason it never occurred to me to keep it in my glovebox until I just heard you mention it. I'm never very far from the Jeep & I carry enough on me so the glovebox or console or whatever would be perfect. Thanks man. Oh hey also if you get a second would you be able to mention where that little leather pouch on the front of Outdoor Momma's belt in the intro bit came from please? I'm always looking for small-ish to medium leather pouches to help seperate different types or gear & kits for the inside of my main rucksack. My own broken paws can't make things like that so thats outta the question. Thanks.

Brad Gremba A friend gave me that Foraging Pouch. Try CampCraft Outdoors. I spent a lot of time and planning to build this kit and worked with my entire about how to make this kit highly mobile yet effective
