*SO! Where do you Land on the Bug Survival Bag? 3 Days, 3 Weeks, or Longer? and How does that affect how you plan or Pack?*

I would much rather have somewhere that I could put stuff and live for long term in a long term situation. I wouldn't carry 47 lbs in the bag. I would also carry a fishing rod.

It depends. Fire in my area? Can i come back? EMP? Can i hunker down at home with my preps. That would be optimal. If i can drive i have enough gear to make it 30 or so days before pillaging. Maybe longer. I would take my basic bug out bag with a S#@! ton of more gear. Then drop stuff as i go as needed...

The main reason I ask about the Lilly and your wife doing a video is cause my little sister asked me why are there not many girls doing videos of bushcraft and she watch all the youtube bushcraft videos and survivability. She 14. And she loves watching it as much as I do. I take her with me when ever I do any type bushcraft outside.

I have to go lighter due to age and disability issues but I see a LOT of useful gear here and have a lot of take-aways from your build. It would be so easy to mix and match to build smaller bags and share the load with the family crew. Thanks for a great video.

As I see it, when you pack you consider every possible disaster/situation. When the time comes you choose what to carry with you depending on what you have to deal with. As for water and food : how familiar with the terrain you are and your knowledge about fauna and flora will make the difference. In a disaster like an earthquake, if you survive, food and water will be provided relatively quick but shelter and fuel for cooking / heating/ lighting will be in demand. In a total lockdown supplies would be few but you have shelter. If you caught in a wildfire ? Where are you? In a car, in your home, backpacking? What is that tool or that technic that will help you? You can't be prepared for everything but try to simulate the most common scenarios and what you'll need to copy for a day or a year. Disasters happen every day around the globe, it doesn't need to be an Apocalypse.

OK, a couple of comments here. - I 100% agree about prefacing your video with the disclaimer about this bag isn't the "end all definition" of a big out bag. Some people don't understand that there isn't a right or wrong way, but only what's best for you based on your needs. You made a point of saying your needs in Texas. Excellent that you packed for your terrain and climate. Someone in Alaska will need different kinds of preps, like bear spray and snow shoes. Know your needs when you pack. All my food gets packed into bear cans, guess why? Thumbs up! -Outdoor Mama had more bounce than the knife, that's secure! Definitely something for me to consider to replace my current BOB knife system or at least try out. -Trip wires. I always recognized them as good camp signals but it never really crossed my mind for my BOB. Now I can see how useful they can be and don't use up too much space. I'm going to look into it further now. -I love your organization skills! That's something that I need to pay more attention to with all my packs. Right now, they're basically just stuffed in together. I'm re-evaluating how I pack now. -I really loved seeing how many redundancies you packed for your most critical gear, like water and fire. True to the prepper credo of having backups for your backups. Same here! -I noticed that you didn't mention pew pews here but I'm confident that it's part of your gear. -And I also agree about conserving your prepared foods for those times when fishing and hunting small game don't pan out. There are plenty of fish, squirrels, chipmunks, ground hogs etc that should be targeted first before exhausting your supplies. Once you've established a long term shelter or camp, then you can hunt bigger game like deer and hogs that you can eat now and preserve the rest for more meals later without having to waste or haul all that meat with you. Or, use the extra meat for trading before it can spoil. Thumbs up for that nugget of info! Thanks for the peek into your Big BOB, Chris, another excellent video! I regret that I can only give you one thumbs up when I really want to give you more.

Here in Norway, the nights are often really cold, even during summer. So most of the space in my bug out bag goes to a warm and big sleeping bag, a tent and a good sleeping mat. Sadly there’s little space left for other gadgets and tools. I can mostly carry the essentials, but little more.

After your video comparing all your bug out bags I was curious and added up all my gear and boy I though I had way less put into it, it was around $3k. And I thought it was around 500 😂 it made me realise you pay for less. What I mean by that is a $100 tent weighs 5-10 pounds but the more expensive the better quality but also the less it weighs. Also those f2o water filter/energy drinks are awesome can't wait to try them lol

Those trail lights are amazing. The jacket was cool too, I need one of those. Lots of neat ideas in there. Its funny I was thinking about how much I have invested in my large bug out bag, I bet its close to 5 grand as well. It just adds up, it sounds like a lot at first but it isnt really that much once you start adding things up.

Incredible video. Descriptive, informative, but to the point. I can honestly admit there were several items in this bag that made me rethink my loadout, specifically the lighting, filtration straws and trap/alert systems. Thanks for the video man keep up the good work! Oh, also, your kids are adorable and the fact you used them for demonstrations was icing on the cake.
@SqwarkParrotSpittingFeathers
In my humble opinion those wide dispersal lights and battery pack are ridiculous. A smaller hand torch plus small head torch would be more energy efficient and weigh so much less. Add a solar panel to recharge and you’ll have available light for weeks.

Great kit sir. My main bug out plan is to actually bug in at all cost. Most all of my peeps are right here. If I can’t stay in my home then the situation must be extremely bad. In that case I’m most likely not coming back home. So the only bug out bag I own is a INCH bag with enough food to get me through about 3 weeks until I can get established at my bug out location. Thanks for sharing.

It's crazy to think that you spent 5000 on your bug out bag, but it is not a bunch of junk. Quality bag, knife, tools, and gear it adds up quick. You also didn't have a firearm (unless i missed it) so add more money for that. I've been trying to get my bag built out not sure if I will hit 5,000 but it will not be cheap. Good quaint gear cost money.

i have a bug out bag here in australia not in case of apocalypse but bush fire . been a soldier for 5 years and there is a lot of things you forget and a lot of thing you wont use , you cant recreate the comfort of your home in the wild. mist important is water food, stove , shelter toiletery ,clothes to change , a yoga mat sleeping bag to protect you from the cold coming from the floor , that was what we used in the foreign legion (france) work for summer and snowy winter . this is the fundamuntal , of course you need one shovel a knife and a tub you can colapse , headlamp and 20m climbing rope . the big question is can you hunt and fish and walk at least 50 km /day ? do you have basuc medical training? we had this issue in the jungle , people got sick or infection and we barely knew how to heal , it lead to a med evac .. there is some survival training you can follow. anyway you carry way too much stuff its going to be an headache to grab the stuff you need from the bottom and that is how you loose an item every days.

@@DropForgedSurvival Yes. People like to criticize for having lots of gear. I think gear is fine if you know what you're doing and could get by without it. Have it and use it all you want but don't rely on it with your life. At least that's the goal... I currently lack the gear and the skill but I'm working on both.

It does sound like ALOT at first... Take Video game Consoles for Example... "If your a Gamer" Buy a new system when it comes out... Good Headphones, Xbox Live Memberships, Several Wireless Controllers, Then the games......... give it 3-5 years you can drop $60 here, $100 there, $20 here.... before long you have $3,000 or more into something like a occasional hobby or past time.

There’s a lot of weight and bulk in all the pouches and that roll. And no decent warm sleeping bag? You can’t assume that fire is going to be an easy or safe option, and a reflective blanket is not going to offer a good night’s sleep, they’re highly conductive so as you cool down after the first hour or so they steal more body heat than they reflect. Can I suggest starting with ultralight camping gear of about 12 lbs for one man; tent, sleeping bag, mat, clothes, water filter, then add as much food as you can carry, and be ready to cache it if necessary.

In your part of the world.. This may not work for you. I live in South Texas. Also Ultralight Gear is small doses works but the terrain can be unforgiving down here.

your worried about running out of food but you carry towels and crap, get rid the luxuries and add more food then ! Pencil Sharpeners (just use a Knife), way to many Matches (Ferro rod is 1000s of lights), your Knife is Huge, not going to be good fro carving or Cleaning game, Fishing kit, Sling Shot, Bow (Are all good but if you carring food why), to each there own, at least you will be comfortable. guess my Ammo takes up room but if im surviving so are a lot of other people, and some of them are not going to be prepared, and would rather just take from others

USS_Boom thank you. My girlfriend lol'd at the pencil sharpener. And the giant knife that you draw out toward your stomach/legs. And the over the top amount of fire starting tools. Also, 500 feet of Stren is more than enough to compensate all of the random rope and string and cord. I can't even remember all the stuff that I heard him say he had duplicates of.

it would thin out fast once he started logging that Huge Backpack around, Drop weight in that and Carry more ammunition, Because there will be a ton of Un-prepared people that will like to take what you have.

Funny how so many video game "BROS" are trying to hand out advice on my channel. Spend one summer day with us out in southern texas... Just one.... Nothing is ever a luxury in this bush. Everything can kill you out here... Everything.

Just goes to show when people start actually adding up what goes into a good bugout bag (or simply self sufficient camping pack) $5000 dollars is surprisingly about right to cover all bases with some redundancies. Quality isn't cheap.
