Driving home from work on I-70W, ran into a little weather... Please excuse the incorrect date/time on the footage (based on the GPS, the clip starts at ~3:10 PM). Portions of the audio were removed for reasons which are probably obvious.
More like millions or billions, I can't remember the exact total, I was at 20th an Teller, an yes I lost my windshield an truck still has baseball dents across hood. Dog was petrified
Okay. Let me rephrase my first comment then since you have an issue with it. Basic coverage doesn't cover hail damage on cars in Alberta. I lived most of my life in the US and hail was always covered under basic insurance, just as windshields were in the US but aren't covered in AB either.
@@aprianiatahau9988 No? sturdiness of cars has only gone up with all the tests required nowadays, which they didn 't have the technology for in the past.
Wow... This is the exact reason we keep an old thick blanket in our car. If hail comes, we throw it over the car. We have been caught in hail only twice, luckily we could floor it and make it under an overpass. On a side note, it is amazing how many cars you can fit under one overpass.
From someone who lives in Colorado for most of there life i can say this is the most of mother nature giving you the middle finger sense it cant produce tornadoes on us all
You were exceptionally well prepared for this event. You had cameras with time stamps, heavy clothing the end of May, and gps showing exactly where you were. All those were definitive proof for your insurance company. This video is compelling evidence showing you had planned for this and knew where to go to reach the worst part of the storm at the right time. Nice job!!
what kind of dumbass comment is this are the weather forecasts so reliable in your area that you know exactly where every storm is, down to the minute coastal elite ass attitude
I live in fountain right across the 25 from fort Carson. Exit 128. My house made the news when this storm hit. We had damn near soft ball sized hail falling. I don’t think I’ve ever pulled my truck into the garage faster! Glad y’all are safe!
It looked to me like most of the breaks in his windshield happened as he was still trying to drive before he stopped... I'd think if you tried to drive during one of these, the faster you drove, the harder they'd hit your front windshield...
Yes because that's how physics work. If you stand still the impact force = kinetic energy of ice balls. If you drive then you add your windshield window kinetic force to the kinetic energy of the ice balls so the impact is more powerfull.
Place the floor mats under the wipers to protect the windscreen and on the back window as well...easier said than done I know in a hail storm but worth the effort
I was visiting my family in Mexico and 1 hour later after it hit denver it hit in Hidalgo Mexico, not as much hail but was surprised on damage it caused in the Denver metro area... How can we forget that day
Damn, if this was me idk if I would've pulled over or if I would've kept going towards the next exit to try and find safety, I wouldn't have been this calm either I probaly would've been crying about the damaged car because I'd be driving something I love unless I got caught in the storm with my beater car.
Yeah I remember this hailstorm. Took a trip in Colorado that year and got stuck in this with a rental car and went through legal battles with the insurance company after they took advantage over this hailstorm and tried to charge me over $4,000 for a small dent you could barely see ( They probably put it there). Yeah, insurance companies are never on your side.
Sometimes people ask me if I miss living in Colorado...I’ll just show them this video next time. Been in more than enough of these storms to last a lifetime in all my years there🤣
We had a hail storm like this in southwest Montana back in 2009. Pretty much every house in town needed new roofs, siding and windows on the west facing side, and you can always tell a car that wasn't parked in a garage even today by their resemblance to a golf ball. I ran out mid barrage to throw my thickest comforter on my cars windshield and managed to make it through without a crack...minus all the cracks I took to the head of course. xD
I hope you guys weren`t injured; I was 3 miles away in Lakewood at home. My car, shed & house roofs were battered, but at least I was inside. Too scary!!
TheTruthQuest123 the fuck I said ? Because you didn't say anyone's channel name and it was the insurance company that gave me 7k and no I'm not a republican
i remember this day with perfect clarity! i was in school giving a biology presentation (trying to yell over the storm only a good 5 mins in), and after it got so loud that i had to stop, we were all moved to the library for safety reasons
@@mosu9958 you are allowed or only not if you have Police in front of you but here we see that nobody are not in front and some cars go!! you must go out of that storm perimeter range which arearound 1-3km most
I've had this happen. Had my mom in car, literally pulled up under covering of local grocery store, right next to pic nuc tables and front door. Windshield cracked, was terrified for my mom's safety. Was insane
Permission to use this on my channel. This is insane. Hope you guys didn't get any of that broken glass on you. I had a sliver in my eye once, years ago and the pain was indescribable. This is going on worldwide and people need to see this. Thank you, let me know. I had a man send me a video form Arvada listed from this storm, but you guys here got it worse...wow
I won't, thanks for getting back to me. If you drive that car don't drive with the windows down...there are thousands of shards in your carpet that are going to react to air circulation like a dust particle...if it gets in your eye (eyes) it will scratch your retina...(know from experience)...take care
I'm sure copart is making a killing with all of their auction fee's as this car and many others are write offs. What a bummer. Glad you two were alright.
that dude is calm for a few reason 1 he's thinking the more I set the more this bill gets racked up but if it beats the shit out of this car that full coverage will come in handy lmfao he's also thinking about what car to buy next lmfao or he's thinking well if they don't total it its going to come out looking better than it was
TIP: A dollar store sun visor placed on the OUTSIDE of the front windshield will protect it from being decimated like this, short of softball sized hail. Keeping in mind that you don't want to be exposed to large hail for a extended period of time, Do the Following. Pull- over, go to the passenger side with visor, open door, jam one side of visor in front of door, close door, throw remainder of visor across front windshield, get in drivers side while pulling in left side of visor, close door. If you practice ahead of time you can get this technique down faster for when a hail storm really happens. You should be able to do this in less than 45 seconds. At least then you won't have glass shards flying in your face & you can still drive your car legally until insurance repairs the damaged to the rest of the car.
Hey Preston... my name is Jeremy Hubbard, and I'm a reporter/anchor at KDVR-TV in Denver. I'm working on a story on the devastating May hail storm. I wondered if we could use your video and interview you on camera about what the experience of driving through it was like. Can you drop me a line at Jeremy.hubbard@kdvr.com ? Thanks.
Hey there, I am a photographer with denver7 the abc affiliate. Just wondering if we can use any of your footage on our air with credit to you? I am working up a Hail damage related story today. Thank you
