I enjoy your videos. Such a great garden! I love the wildflower areas! Years ago we planted wildflowers along the curb where we had pulled out shrubs. We had a beautiful succession of flowers Spring thru Fall. My favorite flower seems to be missing from you garden, though. Beautiful blue borage reseeds itself; plant it once and you never have to plant it again. It grows all season, and it's a magnet for bees. The Spring garden with blue borage, CA poppies and calendula growing together is something I look forward to each year.

Hi Susan, thanks for enjoying our videos! You really can't go wrong with wildflowers, so lovely, long bloom time and often reseed. Borage is a wonderful bee attractor. I actually have some growing on the bottom of the long yellow fence, near where we transplanted the blackberries. Time to throw some seeds in the pollinator garden, though - thanks for the reminder! Enjoy your spring garden!

But holy crap your poppys are so beautiful but i had no idea they can get so tall. Wow! So facinating. I learned alot from u guys and i use alot of your tips. Its so handy. Iv also started using grow bags just from watching u guys too. Its great and durable and the strong wind doesnt take it down too, which i love! Your garden is looking so well and pretty.

I'm interested in that tomato pulley system! I pulled out most my nasturtiums they were magnets for tiny black bugs (aphids?) I do like dahlias but don't have much luck as they are susceptible to powdery mildew & insects here. Looking fwd to my 1st season growin Scarlet Runner Beans! Fig trees grow fast.

I love seeing how pretty a back yard can be with flowers interspersed the way you've done them! This is my first year intentionally planting flowers. I started Zinnias and Marigolds and so far just the Marigolds are in bloom. I can't wait for the Zinnias! The prior owners planted daffodils and Irises (which have finished blooming) and I have my green onion white pom pom flower heads and purple Comfrey blooms and of course dandelions and lots of pretty large maroon Perilla (Shiso) Leaves good for a salad garden and very prolific - almost like mint and VERY good for us. I love them marinated in soy sauce and placed over As far as the pulley system goes for trellising the tomatoes, this is just a thought, but I bet you could do a DIY version just using a cup hook attached to the top horizontal board of your wood trellis and about 3 extra feet of string with at least one or two loops tied into three extra feet of the string that you could keep coiled up at the top or hang the loops from the hook. Then when you wanted to harvest your tomatoes or lower the string for another reason, just remove the loops from the hook to slowly lower the top of the vine up to an extra three feet (or whatever extra length you made it). For that matter, you could probably do it without hooks and instead just wrap the coil of extra string/line/cord to the top of the trellis using the right kind of knots.

Good ideas, thanks, especially the marinated soy sauce!! I think your cup idea could work, too. CK

Love your gardening changes. You have inspired me to try and continue planting throughout the growing season here in Central Ohio. With only perhaps a 5-6 months of warm(ish) growing season, learning what works here for a short harvest is a challenge, but definitely up to it. And wish I could grow citrus outside year round, like I saw on the lemon tree in your garden.
@CaliKim29
@CaliKim29 2 месяца назад
Hi Deb - glad to provide some inspo for your garden - keep at it! The key with a short growing season is to start from seed indoors and grow varieties that are smaller (perhaps in containers) with shorter maturity dates so you can fit your harvests in before the weather changes. Many of the varieties in our Container Garden Seed Collection or Late Summer Collection would work well for you and are currently 30% off w/ code "JUNEGARDEN" at calikimgardenandhome.com. Have you ever considered a dwarf citrus in a container then moving in to an indoor sunny window in winter to keep it alive? Might be a good option...Let me know how your garden grows this summer!

Your wildflowers are just gorgeous! 🌻🦋 I’ve flower gardened for years but it’s only my second season vegetable gardening so I don’t have a same-old-same old yet. I’m trying to find varieties I like and taste new things. I grew American Legion poppies this spring for the first time and loved them! Currently collecting seeds for the poppies , borage, cosmos and zinnias, pole beans and peas. I look forward to your next tour! Thanks for sharing

Hey Becky - flower gardening is so fun, I'm so happy you enjoyed the wildflowers. I've only grown CA poppies, will check out the American Legion variety. What's your favorite flower? Mine has to be Dahlias, sunflowers and zinnias, so hard to chose just one! Congrats on digging into veggie gardening. It's so rewarding to grow your own food - you'll love it! Grow what you love to eat and start simple. We have a ton of delicious veggie varieties in our seed collections, as well as herbs, fruits and flowers! If you haven't yet - check them out at calikimgardenandhome.com. 30% off with the code "JUNEGARDE" until 6/4. Enjoy your summer garden and thanks for stopping by for the tour!

How does the parthonogenic cucumbers like Katrina come to be ?? It would be awesome if every flower of the Cucumber and Zucchini plants produced fruit ?!! It looks like your garden mix-up beds are doing great and making you happy, yay !! , we all need a change . I love Zinnias !!
@CaliKim29
@CaliKim29 2 месяца назад
Here's all I know, Beth: Parthenocarpic cucumbers like the Katrina variety are the result of extensive selective breeding to develop and stabilize the trait of fruit production without fertilization. This involves identifying natural traits, cross-breeding, selecting superior offspring, and producing F1 hybrid seeds for commercial use. These cucumbers offer several advantages in terms of consistent quality and productivity, making them popular among growers. Crazy!!! Always enjoy your comments and appreciate your encouragement - Kim
