Yeah when I went to visit a park for work reason with my board as a beginner, I was so fucking nervous. I can't ollie but was learning and I was there with work to give out free samples of a clothing product we just launched and wanted to record reactions and people skating with it. One for our social media to help promote but also to get feedback from skaters since we felt it would be something they would like. To me I felt like I would had been looked as such a poser lol but the skaters were super friendly. I think it's most of the time one person has one bad experience and that ends up being the only one people remember and it carries on and on. So far every skater I met is pretty chill.

the skate community is one of the most open and accepting communities there are.... that stereotype died out years ago.

Yeah because it's truly humbling. Even the most gifted understand this.

What are the stereotypes surround it? I've always seen them as chill/laid back, friendly-enough folks. Or is this like the lens through a security guard or something? moms being concerned about the youth getting up to no good? anarchy?

@@Siberius- The stereotype used to be that skaters didn't really care (mostly about public property) hence why in many public places in America, there are bans on skateboarding, but not bans on other modes of transportation such as biking. I think it's a dumb stereotype, but there are still people who still think that sort of way, although it's definitely been changing in recent years.

Some of my best memories as a teen are skating to a park in the morning, staying there all day just chatting, drinking, skating and then cruising home when it got dark. You can meet people who you'd never usually talk to and within minutes you'll be friends just because you both like riding around a piece of wood with wheels.

As someone that only knows about Maya through QT and has no idea who Mr. Glasser is, this is the collab I never knew I needed

Theres 2 sides to every coin that includes skateboarding. yes part of the community is very open while the other side is very toxic....

yeah, the regulars at my local park were stoked when anyone learned something new. Guy who's been skating for a decade learns noseblunts? We're stoked. Guy who's been skating for two weeks can comfortably ride every ramp in the park? We're stoked.

Well, you should check his live stream when he watched attempts - his critique is regarding those advices that guy was giving, like "just do a kickflip".

flip was not great, but he didnt deserve all that hate. he tried!

saying someone is "not a good coach" is drastically different than saying "fuck this guy in particular".. what is wrong with you?

@@dandymcgee Yeah some people were just not liking his coaching. I do agree he wasn't good at it but I still saw that maybe he was doing his best since she from what I heard in the stream asked him for help. I won't fault a guy for having good intensions but bad execution. Just something for him to take into consideration next time.

He actually collabs with Braille Skateboarding. Their entire mission is get people in with tutorials and getting kids new boards when they hit the park. They got amazing people on their team.

yeah dude when i got into skating in the 90s i had no idea what anything was was or was named. we'd just jump off stuff. no idea what ollies or kickflips etc were. no vids. it felt like you had to be in california to really progress and learn things my partner got into skating 3 years ago and she's better than i ever was and watches skating videos and youtube constantly. i had like... only cky2k to watch lol

just watched more of the video and the girl in there that does the kickflips was in one of the videos too i think. Or shouted them out or something.
