One little known gaming history fact is that Mayrio 64 was originally not a Mayrio game at all. It was released in Japan under the name "Totsugeki Totsugeki Panic" and achieved modest success, but then Reggie got PISSED and changed all the graphics, rebranding the game to "Mayrio 64" in order to capitalize on the franchise's explosive popularity in the West.
It’s been many long years, but we finally have a conclusion to the Mario 64 play-through. Married to Leah, presumably financially sound, and best of all, Dunkey seems happy, the best conclusion we could ask for.
@@rmj8905 It's May Guilty Gear, from the fighting game franchise Guilty Gear, developed by Arc System Works and published by Bamco Nandai Entertainment Incorporated.
I got an ad for the new movie “Men” before this video. The ad ends with the narrator saying Men all ominously. Then this video starts with that goofy ass intro vocal. It blended perfectly
For those asking about the ending song, it's May's theme from Guilty Gear Xrd, Starry Story. I recommend to check out the rest of May's themes which sound similar along with the entire Guilty Gear soundtrack, they are all bangers.
Swallow. So that's me Non-stop love song (I will) follow you, wherever you go I can't wait to catch up Before the sun sleeps Not if you're short of breath I'm The Disaster of Passion
This video made me realize how slow Koopa the "Quick" is. Understandable because it's like the second mission in the game and most players don't know how fast long jumping is yet, but still.
Imagine how confused Bowser must have been. There he was, expecting his nemesis Mario when suddenly this plain faced, annoying, neutral spamming little brat shows up screaming in japanese and riding dolphins and stuff. I mean, the whole dolphin shtick was reserved for the NEXT game! She is ahead of herself, really.
I remember how just a few years ago, I thought that modding console games was just impossible and now they're modding everything from Mario 64 to Breath of the Wild
@@BierBart12 "mods" for console games have been around since the early days of the internet in the form of romhacks, although most of the early stuff was tile editing genitals onto everything. The SM64 modding community in particular tho has seen leaps and bounds in recent years (shoutouts to Simpleflips for being a big figure in that regard), especially since the source code was decompiled so the hacks for it are especially robust.
@@BierBart12 Nothing is impossible. It's just that some things are a massive pain in the ass that nobody wants to bother with. Modding console games is one of those things, and it stays like that even if those games are ported to PC. Modding PC games is like changing a tire in your car. Modding console games ported to PC is like changing the car's engine. Modding console games is like trying to build an entire working car from only dirt and toothpicks - it's technically possible, but usually takes an entire team of dedicated people to create tools that help with the process and years of work.
@@KetsubanSolo Oh yeah, Romhacking used to be pretty tame and has ALSO become INSANE in recent times. Just look at Mario's Mystery Meat. I feel like the term "hacking" unironically still has some stigma to it that makes them underappreciated.
"Anything you can do, I can do better." When Irving Berlin first wrote those lyrics for the 1946 Broadway musical "Annie Get Your Gun," he perhaps didn't realize how much longevity the sentiment would have. Often used as a musical representation of the battle of the sexes, perhaps more generally as a confident underdog taking on a more established figure, the words continue to ring true and reflective of situations we still see to this day. Of all situations we could compare it to in modern times, it would be difficult to find a rivalry more connected to that sentiment than that of Mario vs May. At first glance, May might seem oblivious to the monolithic legend she dares to challenge. Mario is a beloved hero and character that has spanned generations, and despite his representation as a plumber with lots of confidence yet few words, he remains a beacon of positivity and fun in a medium that finds itself pushed further into mature themes and gray characters every year. May, despite her longevity as a character in the new millenium, seems much more naive and crass in comparison, but those are surface level comparisons that fail to reveal the true challenge she presents to a perennial icon. At first glance, it may seem unwise to compare these characters in any way, but a deeper exploration brings us closer to the truth. While we know Mario as a loveable hero, we often forget his bread and butter and how he keeps the lights on - plumbing. Plumbers seek to control water in domesticated spaces, making it bend to the human hand at their whim. However, May respects the wild and uncontrollable nature of the sea, something that cannot be tamed by human will nor faucet. And when we see May materialize a dolphin from thin air and ride it across chasms that seemingly Mario could only traverse prior to that point, it's not a young girl's whimsical adventure. It's a message. The sea is coming for revenge, to free itself of those who seek to contain it. In essence, she seeks not just to challenge him as a hero, but to end his career. Thus, we find May is not just a clueless ingenue out of her depth against a goliath of the industry. Further, May is not looking to replace Mario as the hero; nay, it becomes clearer that she wants to operate as an anti-hero against the unflappable poster child. Perhaps it's to say that Mario's lack of gray in a virtual world brimming with it makes him an outlier without the safety he has been coddled by. Without much else to currently expand our case, May remains somewhat of an enigma despite what appears to be an outright threat to a longstanding, family-friendly darling. Ultimately, where Mario fits perfectly in the box of what we consider an outright hero, May evades containment, without definition. Or, in her words, no dictionary.
1:30 it's AMAZING how this mod is able to capture May's actual gameplay PERFECTLY. My eyes were closed while listening to this and my entire body thought I was playing Guilty Gear Strive. And before you ask; No, my body was most certainly NOT ready.
Remember the days when Dunkey would upload his playthroughs of Super Mario 64 and just talk about his life and stuff in general? It's amazing seeing how big he's become since then. Always a Dunkey fan.
This game really makes you feel like you're in an unescapable stunlock combo. Terrible, Awful, 91.4/100, has a little something for all the masochists and 2ds owners out there.
