The best joke in the game is actually what happens when you talk to Three Man at the wedding. He goes “Three! Three!” and Doof just says, “We’re not polyamorous, sorry.”
Eclypson has three eyes, and eyes in Spanish are ojos, which has 4 letters, and gods also has 4 letters, each eye might be a god if you think about it, so the belief of eclypson is actually a polygamy too, a triple one
The part where a guy talks to a girl in town and tells her "You are nice and alll, but you have the same overworld sprite as my mother, so it will be very weird for me" was genius. Then seeing them both at the wedding and one of them got a haircut so you can differentiate them.
The best joke that didn't make it into the video is when Three Man shows up at the wedding saying "Three! Three!" and the hero replies "we're not polyamorous"
It's like they had a joke with a friend where they said "how funny would it be if you play through an RPG and then the final boss is frankenstein and you marry him?" and made a whole game just for that punch line. I love that so much
“It’d be like stomping on a whoopie cushion: funny, but at my expense.” Is the greatest line I never knew I needed to hear. It’s always so stupid when the villain needlessly spares the hero, but this perfectly encapsulates the flawless rationale behind that decision. Now I am enlightened. Hell’s Knight is like the William Shakespeare of poetry.
I like how the hell knight gets mentioned in the prologue, shows up randomly to beat the shit out of you and then blow up the friendly village you just visited, and then proceeds to disappear from the game entirely. Not only were you not worth killing, you were so pathetic he couldn’t even bear to be in the same game as you for longer than 5 minutes.
@@accel4481 *spoilers dont read the rest if you wanna play the game* > Come back to reveal yourself as the player character's old doll > Ascend directly to heaven > Kill final boss > Attend wedding > Refuse to elaborate
"And then...another monster comes down from the ceiling and it's uh, it's Frankenstein. " "And then they kiss and get married??" "Uh, yeah. Yeah they do. They get married and ALL their friends are there!"
I'm quite surprised at how well-edited this video is. It told the story of Franken, but also left a good bit of moments out, so it's still worth-while to play the game. This video really gave a great preview of the game, got me hooked to the music, but didn't spoil everything, gave me the gist of the dialogue in the game and made me want to play the game, while also being dunkey. A very well-crafted video!
@Nullatrum Yeah, you're right! But this time he got me to play the game and after the playthrough I started to appreciate the detail of the video even more.
This has probably the best earthbound-like humor in any RPG I've ever seen. 3 man, the laying dude, the recolored scorpions. This creator should do bigger things if they haven't already!
Cerberus joke had me rolling, lol. I wish I could have heard the creator talk to a friend about the idea and just laugh, thinking it'd be so funny to set up this gag of recolored enemies lol
"Sometimes, I'll write out punchlines and just throw them in a fishbowl at home. This one read 'So I kissed frankenstein.' All I know is that something's gonna happen, and I'm gonna kiss frankenstein, and it's gonna be funny." - Miyamoto
Felt real fuckin' clever being about to comment "Finally, you made a proper sequel to Dundertale." before I saw the big man beat me to the punch and this is categorized as Deltarune.
He started out as a man, distant from others and lazy. He wouldn’t ever allow people to talk to him for his own selfish reasons. Didn’t know if he was content or satisfied with life, he just knew he was doing this to himself… however, when the fate of the world needed him the most, he arrived to actually… do something selfless. He gave his ability to someone else. He decided to open up… of course he’s had many years of shutting himself away from others so he wasn’t completely healed… but like Manchester By the Sea, he was ready to try, so he was there to watch a wedding at a distance.
so a fun fact about this game that I'm sure wasn't noticed due to the superb art direction, the sprite of the scorpion was actually being reused and recolored for other enemies
I've waited years for a spiritual successor to Megaman Sprite Game and this did not disappoint. Bonus points for including these cool clawed arachnid things.
Not actually RPG Maker! The readme says it was made with the Official Hamster Republic Role Playing Game Construction Engine (or OHRRPGCE), a piece of game-making software from the late 90s that was open-sourced in 2005.
@UCpjKP4N1VaRwmqya8IdeSGA My comment was better but got less likes :( Life is meaningless, 2000's emo scene girls don't exist anymore. War is pointless.
This game mirrors rpg tropes in such a mocking way that it rolls right back around to being a more interesting roleplaying experience than 99% of the genre.
As a professional, credentialed zoologist, I can confirm that the shrimp is biologically a mere re-skin of the scorpion. In my field, we refer to shrimp by the Latin "scorpius maris", or "scorpion of the sea", and we laugh at the creature for its unoriginality and general incompetence
@@rifqiauliarahman1459 Cerberus is a mythological figure created by the Greek god Hades, who wanted to make the Gates of Hell a more welcoming place by adding a cute doggo. He couldn't find any doggies in Hell tho, because all dogs go to Heaven, so he had to use a placeholder graphic
with the way it looks it seems like it's more quirky dragon quest inspired RPG than earthbound, but earthbound is already borderline a very similar game to DQ mechanically so
I watched this video for about 30 seconds, and then just went and played the damn thing. It's not life-changing, but it is pretty funny, and worth experiencing if you like, or have ever liked, JRPGS. Came back to watch this, and I realized that it was basically just a Let's Play. Dunkey's reactions are all natural. The only thing he cut out was movement and wandering around.
Yeah about a minute into the review I realized this was like his Metal Wolf Chaos video where it was gonna just be him showing you the game. Like I appreciate him bringing it to my attention but it looks cool enough that I wanna just play it myself.
When you think about it, Dampy is the strongest entity in this game. He survived Hell's knight's genocide of the local village and moved on like it was nothing...
I just realized after rewatching this. These longer style videos of donkey playing goofy rpgs (undertale amd Lisa) might be my favorite type of content he makes. I hope to see more in the future (earthbound🤞)
The happy relationship between Doof and Frankenstein soon turned sour when Frankenstein relaxed and revealed their true form as a re-colored scorpion/lobster/shrimp
I laughed, cried, was on the edge of my seat at times. But never, throughout this masterpiece of a video, was I ever so happy, to see Dunkey having fun playing a game he truly loves. This is the new direction of the channel.
The song when he fights the dragon is the song "Pursuit" from the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam OST, an amazing song on an album which I just so happen to have been listening to recently. Why is it in this random Dunkey video from a year ago I clicked on out of boredom???? Crazy.
I know that this video came out almost an year ago, but thanks for making me feel happy for at least a couple of minutes. Lately I've been feeling extremely depressed and almost everything I've been doing hasn't brought me any joy... Except when watching Dunkey's content. So from the bottom of my heart, than you so much for making me feel better when all seems lost to me
Dunkey always knows what tracks to use to introduce or settle a score of a videogame. In this particular video, he chose the intro song of this game. As a musician, I really can relate to his taste for sound. From now on, I'll share the songs he uses in his videos for the wandering viewer. Intro track: Thierry Durbet - Satieric.
I've deadass sat down and watched this maybe 6 times. Not like, put the video on a second monitor. Watched it. Like a psychopath. It's a bop each time. Thank you blessed recommended list, keep bringing Franken RPG
Dunkey says "I don't like JRPGS" and then literally goes an puts us onto a hidden gem that plays like a classic NES JRPG (albeit an extremely simplified one) What can I say? Guy has good taste
This is honestly the hardest i’ve laughed watching a *video on the internet related to videogames* , this game is fucking bonkers in all the right ways
I genuinely can’t believe that this isn’t an original score (aside from the airship theme) and it’s a lot of older synth music! Such a fantastic soundtrack!
I downloaded and played through this game immediately after watch this video. I teared up during one of the last boss fights when the anime music started and all your friends showed up. I'm 37.
