While this washer did work when I got it, it was definitely overdue for some maintenance. In this video, I share where I found the washer itself and where I found the parts I used for the repairs. This video was posted on 2/9/24.
You can find part one of this video on my other RU-vid channel Bmilesonline.
Cottage Craftworks (whom I am not affiliated with in any way) makes an aftermarket version of just about every part for the Maytag El2. You can do a google search for them and search for Maytag wringer washer on their site.
The tape that I found is called silicone tape. You can find it at most auto parts stores. I recommend keeping some in your car. It may save you in a pinch. Eventually, I'll post an amazon link for it here.
If you like this video, please subscribe to my channel. I'll be posting more videos about this washer and a few other Maytags that I have.
Thanks for watching!

Definitely keep the washer! I have one with the pump I bought over 30 years ago as a spare when my new washer broke and I still use to this day. Clothes are much cleaner and heavy cotton clothes soften up better in the old square tub.

I love this video. Your transmission looks ready to go. The motor was the original. They don't make them like they did!

Definitely keep it and use it regularly for as long as you can. I firmly believe that things were better made and designed in those days and this should serve you well.

Turn the bar that sits on top of the wringer until you hear a latching sound. If it is wobbly on top it released when something too large went through.

Yes, keep it! You're lucky to have the model with the pump on it. I have 3 Maytag square tub wringer washers. One from the 40's that has the metal agitator like yours, one from the 50's that was my grandmother's and one from the 60's that I bought at an estate sale a couple years ago that looks almost like new. None of them have the pump but are still great washers that do a great job cleaning clothes

I think these machines are the best. Todays appliances are junk. You will get years out of that machine. You should watch videos by Tim Kessler who also uses a Maytag. He actually spray painted his interior tub and it looks just like new. He also shows the exact paint he uses. I had to email him one time when I was having a issue with my wringer tension. He has a lot of knowledge with these washers. I know you were mentioning in your newest video about the tub having some corrosion. Just thought you might want to check him out. Keep up your great videos.

Thanks for the heads up! I had pinhole leaks in my center plate (under the agitator) and I used Tim’s aluminum spray paint to paint over the center plate and it did stop the leaks. Pinhole leaks are common in these machines. I wish I would have remembered to mention how I fixed that in this video. When I get time, I think I’m going to sand that corrosion out of the tub and maybe even polish up the rest of the tub and the agitator as well.

Where do you find the model no. I found the serial no. on mine, but no serial, no? I need to find an agitator

If your machine is like mine (an E2L), Cottage Craftworks makes just about every part for this washer. Here’s a link to their site: cottagecraftworks.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=maytag+wringer+washer
