61 hp per liter means less engine stress and a much longer lifespan/higher reliability. Those recent 1.2 turbocharged engines with 100 hp per liter aren't going to last as long. Want to know why old diesels last so long ? high engine displacement and low power = less wear. As simple as that. Now 122 hp is more than enough for a daily drive, max torque and power are both reached at 4000 RPM The 165 hp version removes that limit and brings max power at over 6000 RPM (torque still drops past 4000 RPM) The only reason to get the 165 hp version would be if you drive near the redline and want to waste more fuel, performances aren't much better on this engine because it's the exactly the same without the power cutout at 4000 RPM....

The previous Mazda 3 mk3 with the 120hp 2.0 could be remapped up to about 170bhp I think, but not sure if anyone is offering remaps for this newer skyactive-g engine..
