Just want to say thanks for this video, I have a Mazda 6 that gave me the no oil pressure warning, turned out to be a snapped oil pump chain. I had given up on the car over a year because I didn't know how to fix it and it wasn't worth paying for it to be fixed. I did everything you did in this video and started the car back up again today, over the moon I've got my car back 👍

I have a snapped oil pump chain, top-of-the-range Sportnav 175 bhp mazda 6 2016 skyactiv D. Engine turns over but wont start ( I'm a bit worried that your example did start). Local garage can't fix, Bristol Street Motors can't fix and Mazda want £2000+ just for the chain replacement, but also quoted £8500 in case of any other damage found. The car's worth ~ £7000 if running (100K miles). I have to fix it myself as I can't afford to gamble £2000+. You've actually done what I thought of doing as a solution but didn't know whether it would work... you've proved it could so thanks for that...I'm so glad I subscribe to your channel! I bought a 2012 basic Hyundai i10 as a replacement car while I sort this mazda out. I actually prefer the Hyundai as reliability absolutely trumps leather seats, great performance, bose sound and all bells and whistles. I hate this Mazda and if I can repair it I'll dispose of it asap. I wouldn't sell to a private individual as my conscience wouldn't allow that, but to a large company that would guarantee it for the next owner. I've had so much trouble with this car, I'd never buy another f'ing Mazda.Ever.

@@morushdi8076 Hi, I haven't had time to fix it yet. I hope to do it over Christmas. It took sometime to get hold of a genuine Mazda chain. Had to buy with sprockets and guide (which I need as plastic skate also broken) cost £250 new off ebay Mazda dealer. It doesn't seem as thick as the original but it's the same as Peter uses so looks genuine. To be honest, the chain looks just the same as the copies you can get off ebay for £70! I'll update when I've fitted and let you know the result.

@@morushdi8076 this is very much a permanent fix & a perfect solution once it hasn’t broken any timing chain guides or the tensioner. Far faster & in my opinion better than swooping out the engine for another that might not be far away from failing too😬👍👍

Oh my goodness Peter..this is dejavu‼️ Had 151 maybe a little more kms with a pump chain broke. Your customer was, I would consider VERY lucky..the engine still turned..the unit I had completely seized..no movement whatsoever. I had to replace all bearings and slight damage to crank but it was only surface in that material from the bearings were seized onto the crank, if that makes sense. Using fine wet/dry and elbow grease it polished up perfectly and all measurements checked out within spec for STD bearings to go back in. I don’t remember having different colours of bearings as I thought the little tabs defined which went where but I stand corrected. I ended up doing timing chain and all sprockets in a replacement kit. The one thing I noted was that the old chains would not fit on the new sprockets and I believe this was a fix introduced in later models because of this very issue. Perhaps the sprocket design caused slight and gradual wear to the chains. A great video Peter and loved you splitting of the chain idea. I did a complete engine strip down and rebuild…piston rings too..they were filthy with carbon buildup underneath.

Once the oil pump chain breaks you have no oil pressure whatsoever. So it can damage big end bearings and score the crankshaft very quickly, not to mention the turbo 😬😬😬 I would advise looking at the big end bearings before making a decision 🤔🤔 Are you in Ireland??

Is it possible or do I need access to a ramp do you think to put the car in the air? The car has been sitting since. I also forgot to mention that when the car came to a stop, a 250 amp fuse blew. Get the front wheels up on 2 ramp. And remove the sump and balance shaft / oil pump module. Examine to see if any damage is done to the chain guides. Hi Totoribus, in my experience the most common cause of oil pressure with no warning is oil pump timing chain failure. Engines generally don’t fail immediately though. What socket type are the rod bearing cap screws and does the torque setting/procedure needs to be followed to the letter?

@kennedysgarage3281 Год назад
You will need a ‘Torx’ socket, size 12 I believe from memory. Torque settings 1. 29 Nm + or - 3 Nm 2. 90Nm + or - 10 degrees Make sure the bolts are no longer than 45mm Good luck with it 👍👍

@@kennedysgarage3281 Thank you mate, managed to get them off. Did you have to polish the surface of the crankshaft before installing the standard size rod bearing shells? Or did you use plastigauge or similar to measure the clearance etc?

@@neeldub53 no mate, I only done a good visual inspection on the crankshaft, you will know quite fast if there is any damage done to it 🤞🤞👍

Peter, how do I remove the crankshaft pulley on this engine..any tips or tricks? I can't crank the engine due to oil pan being open and no oil in the system at present otherwise I would have held the bolt with a breaker bar while engine is trying to turn

@@neeldub53 I would use a strong impact gun or get a flywheel locking tool. This will lock the flywheel while undoing the crank pulley bolt. Can I ask why you are removing it ?

I get some pile of these Mazda’s in for repair due to RU-vid. And I don’t mind working on them while everyone else hates them. So unfortunately the Mazda video’s are going to keep on coming 😬😬 You love them really Dan 😊😉😉

@@zzhughesd It’s a fantastic knowledge sharing forum & a by-product of it is it brings in customers for all makes & models. But it seems very few want to work on Mazda’s except little old me 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ 😂😂

This video is recorded around 2 years ago and the car is still flying. I have since gotten a timing chain splitter and crimper. Because of this video I now do around 2 of these jobs per week from all over Ireland. So it worked 🙂🙂
