Not the worst but my personal most hated BB decision was drafting Jermaine Cunningham over Carlos Dunlap. Patriots needed a pass rusher, Dunlap was on the board. BB drafted Cunningham instead even though Dunlap leads the team in sacks. I hated that pick.

Trading Jimmy Garoppolo for a 2nd round pick when he could have traded him to another team for multiple 1st round picks. Bill always said he does what is best for the team but clearly Bill did what was best for himself and the player, and that to me is a fireable offense, to not put the team and the organization first.

@devourmentoffetus
@devourmentoffetus 6 месяцев назад
This is a wild take but only because you're comparing a turd to a bottle of pee. I'm sorry, but Cam was never going to be the MVP he was in Carolina. Mac had a great rookie year, the entire fanbase was excited about Mac. There is a legitimate argument to make that Mac, while likely never going to be a real top10 QB, could have built on that rookie debut if Bill would have done ANYTHING good for the offense in FA and the draft. ANYTHING, literally anything at all. But he didn't.
@abrahamsannoh
@abrahamsannoh 6 месяцев назад
@@devourmentoffetus, it's true that Cam was never going to be the MVP he once was. But it would have provided competition for both Mack and Cam. Mack needed the mental toughness required to be the QB of the Patriots under Bill. Expectations are up each year in the NFL. There has been many rookies QB who struggled in their 2nd year because teams now had more tape on them through a 17 or 18 game season. So second year has always been a challenging year for all rookies who struggled. Mack didn't have competition. He was handed the keys to the kingdom prematurely by management. Even if he was ready, he needed to be humbled. That's why I call it Bill worst mistake. Cam had a full off season. Better chemistry within the offense. Mack would have pushed him to play better and learn at the same time that having the key to the kingdom requires a lot more than having a great rookies season. I never believed that Mack earned that position. I believe letting Cam go was to give Mack space to not look over his shoulders. Which is exactly what happened in year 2 with some calling for Bailey to be the starter. These are the reasons I call it Bill worst mistake!! Know how he's managed the team over the years with regards to how he handled rookies. I'm sure I would have made the decision to start Cam and have Mack push him even more...

The last month of 2015 should be in tier 1. The handling and coaching of the last month was so unbelievably bad it cost them a super bowl. Out of all of the bad decisions Bill made that is the one I think about the most along with the Malcolm Butler benching. 2015 or 2017, one of those years should have ended in a super bowl victory.

How about that quarter of a billion we spent in free agency to get Matthew Judon and a bunch of bums? I would’ve sold Hunter Henry at the trade deadline this past season for a 7th rounder and a new washing machine, and he’s the only other guy that even part-way panned out. Jonnu Smith? THAT GUY BLOWS
@criticaljacques2237
@criticaljacques2237 6 месяцев назад
At least Judon can play, and likewise with Hunter Henry... he might have been overpaid, but he's still not a total bust like Jonnu Smith was. Complete non-factor. Even in his heyday, Bill has never really demonstrated a good eye for offensive talent. In retrospect, guys like Scott Pioli and Nick Caserio (whose services have been an absolute bonanza for Houston) went a long way toward mitigating Belichick's roster-building weaknesses in the earlier years. The only facet of the game for which I still have faith in Bill's judgment is on the defensive side of the ball. He still hits at a reasonable clip on DBs and linebackers in the draft... the D-line not so much in recent years. He used to find decent (and in the early years, terrific) O-linemen... but that's all a distant memory. He's more cut out to be a D-coordinator really at this point, but he's so close to Shula's record that he'll never accept anything anything short of a head coaching gig. I think the worst thing that ever happened to Billy B was the year that Brady went down for the year in the season opener vs. KC... he went 11-5 that year with Matt Cassel as his starter. This was when BB started to convince himself that he didn't NEED Brady to be a winner. Drafted Garrapolo several years later while TB12 was still on top of his game. Ultimately, Jimmy G would move on... as Tom just continued playing better than ever before. But Bill still became preoccupied with proving he could lead a juggernaut WITHOUT the consensus GOAT taking snaps. The rest is history. Bill did this to himself.
@criticaljacques2237
@criticaljacques2237 6 месяцев назад
His stubbornness with the ridiculous Malcolm Butler situation (which apparently involved his son). I could see sending a message in the early going, but when Nick Foles is tearing apart the secondary like a HOF-level QB... you might think Bill would swallow his pride and let Butler into the game. Never forgive that.

I know the Brady decision was more iconic/impactful but the Patrica/Judge was more inexplicable, stubborn and stupid. The Brady one was at least defensible at the time. There is NO situation, nor will there ever be, where hiring a pair of defense-only bobos as DUAL OCs would be defensible. It was firable-offense stupid in the moment it occurred.

@paulrichards5002 Look, did BB made some bad coaching decisions? Of course he did. How many games did he coach? Going to make errors just like with drafting. Drafting Gronk, Edelman, Brady. Getting Blount and Dillon. Of course he mucked up alot and he wanted to get rid of Brady sooner rather than later but again drafting Brady then sticking with him has to count for about 50 mulligans. Not to mention his defensive genius. Belichick is a great coach but I think we can agree BB was a pretty mediocre GM the last 20 years albeit drafting in lower rounds. If u ask me honestly, I think what has hurt Belichick more than anything is his ego and paranoia.
