That's exactly what the fenders are designed to do. When driving up and down the orchard rows, the fenders direct the branches up and over instead of snagging and breaking them. Almost every tractor manufacturer made and orchard model. Nice vid, thanks for sharring.
The rarest thing is finding these with the sheet metal intact. After they were done at the orchards or retired a regular farmer would tare all the fenders and shielding off as it just made it harder to work on and held in the heat of the motor when doing field work like plowing and bailing. I have a 48 W-6 that is the same tractor just regular fenders, taller seating position, and no guards on the side of the engine. This is a beautiful restored job whoever did it.
This tractor's purpose is for use around fruit orchards. The extra sheet metal from the mid part back over the wheels is to help "deflect" tree branches from low hanging apple trees, etc without injury to either the trees or the driver. John Deere and a few other manufacturers also built similiar units.
That's incredible! I've never seen anything like that before! And I grew up on my grandparents farm! I'd really like to learn the details of that thing! Very interesting! TU!
@805ROADKING They're out there, you just live on the opposite side of the country from where they were used. Some midwest and eastern farmers would get ahold of them and take the shields off and use them but many did'nt like them because the seats were set much lower than a standard model also so the driver would'nt get plugged in the head goin through the orchard rows.
my family and own one and a o-4 here in Delaware we plan on re-restoring the o-6 and restoring the 0-4 the 0-4 has the same size engine as a farmall H and the o-6 has the same size engine as a farmall M o stands for orchard the fancy fenders are to keep the brush and fruit tree limbs off and away from the operator and to keep the limbs from getting hung in the tractor its self
that's an orchard tractor it allows you to drive through apple, peach, pear, lemmon and other orchards without breaking off or damaging the trees that wierd looking thing allows the tree branches to pass over the top and sides of the tractor without breaking the branches or knocking off the fruit.
@805ROADKING real good news for that fella ..haven seen a harley do that before tho ..you think it would happen to one of the other brands first .it must lol .but that main switch is still a good plan
