pfff..I used to work at McDonalds..the service is bullshit slow these days and it's not even cheap anymore..there used to be a thing called line times..pull ahead and park for what?..it should take 10-15 seconds to make a cheeseburger or hamburger, literally..the reg meat cooks in 90 seconds..and you should have sufficient stock, if you're a competent back end worker..

I’m glad videos like this exist because now people can see what fast food employees actually do, and food doesn’t just magically appear just because it’s “fast food”. I haven’t worked in an actual drive thru but I have been in the food industry for a few years and I’ve always respected all fast food employees. I know how demanding and stressful the food industry can be.

washing your hands every 30 minutes is proven to be more clean. Edit: Apart from when handling raw meat and contamination areas (areas like milkshake machines etc.)

I was on the grill for three years and I’ve always had mad respect for the line guys. Having to memorize everything that comes off of that menu and be able to put them together under that kind of pressure and time restraint is insane to me. Being on the grill I was just repeating the same thing over and over but you have to be sure to have all of the topping in an order and to make sure you even have the correct toppings. Granted this wasn’t the busiest I’ve seen a line get, but being able to hop from grill to line and help catch up on back logged orders is really impressive. Mad respect.

Its easier than u think. Especially if you eat there. McDonald's sandwiches are pretty simple. Getting the buns through the toaster was always the hardest part for me LOL.

when i worked I saw people drop food and the floor and still send it out. Also somone poured alcohol into a drink and sent it out too and we would intentionally say we ran out of shit to not serve it.

It's like this in a lot of restaurants, cameras or not. We all know the job gets super stressful so it's easier to take it all in stride and just be cool because bitching at each other about nothing doesn't change the fact that people are hungry and the job just has to get done. Communication is HUGE in the service industry. We try to save our complaints for after work pints or quick hot takes when the servers come to the window to pick up plates. If there were anything definitive I had to say about working in a restaurant, it's that we all know what we're getting into, so we might as well be nice to each other while we do it.

Big respect man. I've worked in shops, factories, production lines, construction sites, vans, trucks but I hated nothing more than standing there doing the same thing over and over again on a food production line. Takes mad patience and mental strength to power through a shift if you're hating it. Anyone working in this line of work, know you're appreciated!

As a former fast food worker, and a now a tradesman of 15+ years, I want to say that mentally it has stuck with me more than any other job or type of experience I’ve earned over my life. Working in fast food teaches you something unique about customer service you cannot learn anywhere else. I also believe that with the right attitude one can harness lifelong skills of being able to pay respect and dues where it’s necessary to people working the shitty and unappreciated jobs of society.

I worked at McDs for 3 years out of high school. One evening a guy came in and sat down in a booth. He ate a meal and then just sat the for a while. I went out and asked him if anything was wrong and he said he was waiting for the store to close so he could work on the ice cream machine. It perked my interest and I asked him what does that job pay and he said $22 an hour. This was in 1993. He said he was getting paid just to wait there until he could start working on the machine. I went and got my Associate of Applied Science in Industrial Technologies and went into the HVAC field and went on to be a Facilities Manager in a maintenance department. I learned what job to get by working at McDonald’s.

I first started working at McDonald's when I was 16 and it taught me to appreciate a lot of the hard work I put into everything. Busted almost 2 years grinding long shifts being in the grill I personally loved it having so many orders you kinda get in the vibe. I'm now a few months into being a real estate agent and I still think about those mcdays my respects 💪🏼💯

yep and if your a manager you have shifts 8 hours or more(at bk for me at least) and it can be a struggle if your a manager trying to run a store along with having to position crew and then make orders or work drive thru and then have manager tasks before, during and after your shift. its hard sometimes but once you get used to the job its not so bad and it becomes second nature.

I’m a cook at a higher end Italian place and what you say about getting things customized hits home! Of course if someone is paying for it they should get the meal they want to eat, but during lunch time we have had requests to cut the crust off of our sandwiches, and one lady requested we cut the tails off of her shrimp for her 😂 we did it of course but it’s just that extra time spent in a busy kitchen that makes it annoying

HA! That was me the first couple days. Phantom beeps would wake me up out of my sleep. It eventually stopped, but hearing the quarter sounds going off in the background had me rolling my eyes and getting frustrated.

I've worked at Jimmy John's before, where they always emphasize that they're "freaky fast". Honestly it looks fast but when you've worked there a while and you know exactly what to grab from where and all that you kinda just go through the motions with it. Doesn't take away that fast food can still be stressful at times because you have to make as little mistakes as possible while still going at that speed so you keep the whole thing moving.

Man I remember working in a restaurant. Saturdays and sundays were the worst, the tickets would start printing the moment we opened up and they wouldn’t stop unless someone manually stopped the online orders. The tickets would be falling off the line 5 minutes into service. Everyone on the line busting their ass and not even eating until 7 hours later. Shit sucked. Restaurant workers will always get my respect , especially since I know from experience . From dishwasher to lead line cook lol

@@sadiestreasures The ones that get tickets are when a customer customizes the sandwich. For example, when someone doesn't want pickles on their cheeseburger. The ones that don't get tickets are the ones that follow the normal recipe.

Gotta love running around like my heads cut off being all alone last hour. Grill, fryer, and table. 5 double cheese one night extra onions down to 2 grills, then more orders pop up is enough to set some pressure. 15 mcdoubles and 16 McChickens another night was enough to spend 11min on that single order with orders behind it can get crazy sometimes but we always pull through

It’s extremely stressful in fast food or even restaurants as well. People just don’t understand unless you work plenty and plenty of rushes, extreme emotions and no breaks for hours sometimes especially restaurants

I'm working at McDonald's in Spain to pay my nursing degree. Actually, I've been working for them for about 6 years in the kitchen and there are some nights that I had 40 orders: customers inside the restaurant, McAuto and delibery. People don't see the work and phisic/mental effort we have to make to try to get the job done.

@@user-li8wj3lt2l Right Now, I have one university degree and currently I'm studying nursing (another degree) to try to get a better job. McDonald's helps me by giving me less days of work but the minimum financial requiriments to pay my degree. Its hard to explain (sorry for my english). In summary, i have worked for them for 6 Years but between 20 to 30 Hours a week, not 40 :) and also depends on what category you Are: if you Are a trainer like me you Get better salary (€ per hour) than the Other mates.

Right?! I had a job paying me $23 and out of habbit im a fast worker coming from working at a deli. I had atleast 2hrs of actual work at the new job and 8hrs of just looking at my phone. They wanted me to drag the 2hrs of workload so i can look somewhat bussy. Sounds nice but felt like paid jail

As someone who has never worked in fast food but worked in every other capacity of the restaurant business over the past 20 years, it's actually quite interesting to see just how much the design of McDonalds is made around speed and efficiency -- and it's really a thing of beauty to watch, so long as it's one of the better run franchises (as it appears yours is). I can certainly respect what you guys do, as a cook and fellow Stephen myself. ;)

i was a chef in what snobs would call "real" restaurant, worked fast casual for the most part of my career and the most important trait a good line cook can have is consistency, every day has to be the same,, every day is about repetition until it becomes muscle memory until its instinct and this guy is a fucking machine, ive got mad respect for it. anyone in the comments aspiring to be a fine dining chef or even just a fast casual line cook, doing a stint in a fast food franchise will teach you more about kitchen work ethic and the importance of hyper consistency than you'll learn anywhere else in your early years, it might seem like a waste of your time, why wouldn't i just go work the pit in a proper restaurant for a year like every other fine dining cook, but if you can do a 500/1000$£ rush in a franchised shithole to the exact spec so that your customer cant tell the difference between your dominoes in Birmingham and your dominoes in london and do that day in day out for 6 months you'll have abetter foundation for your future than any entitled prick who goes out to be top shit chef and gets nowhere

good advice. We had an Iron Chef winner work for my company before it aired on TV and by the end of it all, he told us how humbled he was working in a fast casual environment and appreciated how much labor and precision it takes, even if it’s considered ”cheap”.

I haven't worked in McDonald's since 3 years ago, and I remember doing everything in this video so vividly LMAO. It was like I was actually initiating again. I sometimes miss working there, but at the same time it was just so much stress. Our rush hours and bus rush days were just painful. My manager would put me on grill for rush hours because I could work more proficiently there than most people I worked with, but man was it tough.

They made that mistake with me. I worked 12 years for McDonald's from 17 to 29. My last 6 months there, they started dicking me over on kitchen staff and I ended quitting without notice.

I know that kicked off feel. When I worked the line at Tacobell I was always mid, but occasionally they'd put me on hot/grill and it would be like 15 mins till they threw me back to midline. It's just crazy how certain spots just flow better with different people. On grill, I'd be slow with shells etc. On midline I'd be on cruise control for hours.

Yup bro, I did dishes and the fryer for chicken and fries. Was a pro at doing both at once but if you put me on assembling burgers or grills I’m just mid like you said. I get too caught up in how I’d like it and there’s so many orders at once. Idk dealing with customers just isn’t for me in a fast faced food industry So happy I work at a steal plant now but I think about going back to McDonald’s to try and get a salary plus benefit job in the future

I never worked at Mcdonald's but i did work at Long John Silvers for many years, and Burger King for a year. This actually makes me miss those places. The way you are constantly telling your guy on the other side what you can get for him, and asking for him to get for you. It's a hell of a hard job sometimes, but you get a sense of accomplishment when you manage to get through a busy rush and everything goes well.

I honestly have mostly great memories of working at McDonald's. First store I worked at still had a smoking section, so I'm old I guess. I met my first serious girlfriend working with her at McDonald's. I took her to my senior prom. We did other "firsts" together lol. I learned a good work ethic from there, how to be quick and efficient. I still remember working those late 4 to closes and getting out after midnight on those cool summer nights. Good stuff.

the wage is respectable to the created value the worker has. as this job does not require high qualifications its not paid with big amounts. i wont say its no hardwork as you will be quite exhausted after shift for sure - i've worked at a company restaurant myself almost late and nightshifts only on all kitchenjobs. i do respect the work, but its not as demanding as ppl want it to be. iam glad i've seen this side of the coin as well and i learned a lot, what still helps me in my todays job as a manager.

Holy crap how much I underestimated how much coordination and multi-tasking this job actually is. I used to play a game on the ps5 with my girlfriend called Overcooked, which is basically a fastfood kitchen simulator with funny quirks added to it. But it's actually not that far off from reality it seems. It's hella chaotic, and very stress endusing. Mad respect for the calm, organized attitude.

As someone who's worked "dead end" jobs, I think this does a halfway decent example of showing how hard it really is. This isn't just the fast food industries, but I worked bottom of the totem pole "cart collector/Janitor/bagger/shelf stocker" and it's insane how non-stop and difficult it is. Yeah it doesn't require specialized knowledge/schooling, but it requires being quick, getting yelled at by higher ups and customers, non-stop working, and just outright mental fatigue. Been watching a lot of behind the scenes fast food videos lately (saw a five guys one and that one's nuts too.) Kind of makes me wish I was able to record myself on my grocery store job. I've been called some of the meanest things, seen other employees get physically assaulted, almost get assaulted myself, and I think it'd make for some good content. There are no jobs that don't deserve a living wage, so long as you perform that job to a respectable level. (ie: not calling out/no-showing constantly, actually doing your job, and being able to keep up even if it's stressful.) These videos show a deliberate and good worker, and even though work is constant, he never once gets audibly flustered. I'd kill to have co-workers like this guy.

Wow , it's not easy on the grill ... You are the heart of it all.. I was a general manager for 10 years at various restaurants including MD and someone should have floated to help catch you up. So as a manager I would've told a shift supervisors or etc to jump on the grill or any area. This reflects on management big time.

They can scream all they want, the world can beep and moan but the answer is always forget them all, "what's step 1, alright now what's step 2, etc etc" Worse they can ever do is fire you and in the states that isn't much of a threat especially at McDonald's pay.

i cant even imagine working at the grill all day. i worked for 2 weeks at a mcdonalds, and the only things they had me do were sit at the front counter, clean tables, and do the dishes, then they fired me for being too slow. i cant imagine having the pressure of peoples orders getting to them on time, but also in good condition. i massively respect you and hope you're doign well at your job :)

I'm an engineer and I design machines and cells that produces things. These lines require operators to run even though they are considered "automated". These operators work hard and aren't really paid well enough. After seeing this video these guys work 10 times harder than our operators. I think these guys should make the same amount I make to sit in a nice air conditioned office doing design work...if not more. If someone asked you if you would flip burgers for 350k/year, you'd assuredly say yes. This shows that the problem isn't the kind of work, its the abhorrent wages of some kinds of work vs. others.

I'll go one step further - it isn't just the low wage but the customer expectation of low cost fast food that drives horrible working conditions. How can a company afford low cost fastfood, especially meat and meat like based products? Constant high volume with low labor costs. Sadly, if people were willing to pay more (and did), modern corporate philosophy would be to pay out dividends and report record earnings to attract more investors or a buy-out rather than increase wages. Myself? I've done a lot of the low end work - fast food, convenience store, and tipped casual dining (which means my employer was able to use my tips for a week to reduce my hourly wage to $2.33 even if those tips were all in a single hour of a 30 hour work week... They don't like giving full time out as then you have to pay benefits). Switched to low paying warehouse work in a game store, and now I'm leaving that to make a living wage that pays $10 more an hour doing appliance assembly factory work. These guys deserve a fair wage, but like dedicated EMS or farmer's or teachers to pay them afairwage would mean people would have to spend a lot more (which they won't do). Oh, and that looked like a slow time - imagine what it looks like when you have 6 or 8 lines of people inside, outside the lot line of drive through customers ordering dinner for their families, and online orders coming in... It's pure chaos and extremely high stress.

Congrats on your new job. In my experience, especially in fast food I really wanted to quit the moment I started working but just 3 or 4 days in I started to feel much better and kept at that job for a year.

@@leftunknown nah most fast food, primarily burger places are really easy. I work at Hardee's and I'd say it's easier than this despite how streamline they tried to make it at McD's. The hard part is being fast and that just comes with time and experience, so don't worry about it.

I’ve worked at my local McDonald’s for 4 months now, often during the 4-9pm rushes, only twice have I been so overwhelmed, I thought of quitting. Apart from that, if you are an organised person, it’s much easier than you would think In my opinion, I work at the front and the kitchen, and I make sure I follow the structure, it flows so easily and at sometimes with the right people is really fun. All these people crying in the comments about how McDonalds almost killed them, and they had to quit after 2 days must have some issues.

Reminds me of my times working at McDonald's. I would always be put on grill then moved over to the table. Our McDonald's was slammed with orders all the time, you pretty much got no break in between orders.

As a former worker, I honestly don't miss having to run table & running grill/fryer solo; all for slave wages. I work at a warehouse that pays double (or higher at peak time) what I earned at McDonald's.

As a new viewer and subscriber, I would think that corporate would LOVE these videos! They would analyze all of the movements, glove changes, product applications and assembly. Wow, the only thing recognizable from the time I worked late 70s to early 80s was the grill scraper and the single patties.....everything else....no more counter call "cheese on how many quarters" no toaster and flat spatula to caramelize buns , no searing the meat with a sear weight, and no reconstituted onions on the single and big mac patties.....so different and more complicated.

At Wendy’s we just have to manually undo the stack 1-by-1 when we get free time or shit just gets in the way. But the stack isn’t that hard as it looks, on the edge there is a little fold which you can easily slip your finger in to grab it and pull it off.

i got canned for being too slow in the kitchen(according to them). However i was not trained correctly and i had no idea what i was doing most the time as is because several different employees kept showing me different ways to do things and even the managers were confusing me all the time.I brought it up to corporate and they said "Well i guess your sadly not fit for our fast paced work environment, so we'll let you go". So i started a home based business (successful) and have actually been better off, since i can work at my own pace and not rushing through things.

I like the whole "Clean as you go" approach. I use the system at home, along with colour coded chopping boards. Makes life so much easier!

McDonalds sure has changed in 35 years lol. When I was there the only drawer they had was for nuggets(which were pretty new). Burgers got cooked and slid into that heated ramp that we put metals number tabs behind the burgers(the number was 10min past whatever the hand was on the clock, so if you made a burger at 12:20(#4) you put a #6 behind them)and we would make 10 or so at a time, even in down time. If nobody ordered them after 15 minutes....into the trash they went and we made new ones. There were MANY things different as a cook, we didn't have those cool things cooking the top!! We still had to sear and flip burgers and oh man the amount of salt used was crazy. One time during breakfast we made a hotcake the size of the grill for everyone to share for breakfast lol. Kinda pulled it over like a blanket to flip it

I remember those days. I worked at McDonald's from 1986 to 1994. It was hard work. I was cross trained to work every station, every shift. I remember having to make the biscuits from scratch every morning. I remember being expected to work both drive thru windows by myself during dinner rush.

@@blkdeath In many parts of the country, minimum wage is still 7.25. Very few states have a $15 wage. So 7.25 an hour is not enough for anyone--be it the high school kid trying to earn extra money, the college student trying to pay the bills, the single mother working two jobs, or the retiree trying to supplement his social security, or the unemployed substitute teacher trying to make some money over the summer. Regardless, though, fast food workers working incredibly hard, work long hours, for low pay and no benefits, and they deserve respect. I remember being expected to work drive thru cash and the grill area at the same time, work the front counter and run for drive thru and the fry station at the same time. I remember being expected to work the grill area by myself during a Saturday morning breakfast rush while there is a BOGO sale. At least these people are working, trying to get ahead.

I had this long response and accidently deleted it, but the TLDR version was sit and work for trashy company for trashy pay and bitch about it or bust your ass, find something that pays more, set the goal of getting there and go get it. I went from McD's to professional truck driver in less than 5 years and a pay jump from $3.35 an hour to $17-18 an hour. No training, no truck driving schools, free CDL book to study from the DMV. It's not unattainable, people just want the easy road.
