I used to work at Five Guys for 4 years on/off during college. All ingredients are cut and prepped fresh daily. Things like grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, bacon are not kept overnight and must be made in the morning every day. The only veggies that can sit in the refrigerator overnight are cut fries, lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeños, raw onions, raw mushrooms, peppers, and pickles. Most produce if not used by the end of the 2nd day are thrown out. The beef is also rolled and smashed daily and also will usually be used by the second day. The reason Five Guys costs so much is because the beef for the burgers is Grade A beef (best quality) and the veggies are continually brought in fresh every few days. Therefore you're paying for the higher quality beef and freshness of the veggies. There are no preservatives. When prepping the fries and veggies every morning we would throw out tomatoes or potatoes or other veggies like entire lettuce heads that were not up to par or spoiled from the shipment. Yes, some will complain about the high prices but you're getting higher quality ingredients. You don't get the same quality from In-N-Out or Shake Shack. They use lower quality beef, potatoes and veggies across the board which is why it's cheaper. Shake Shack's fries come in frozen and In-N-Out isn't using grade A beef and using a non-commercial potato(Not russet). Nothing is frozen at Five Guys and the peanut oil used to cook the fries is also expensive. Most places use a cheap oil or type of vegetable oil that isn't really designed for cooking french fries. I did notice the store in the video should've replaced the cut lettuce. It looks a bit wilted and should not be served.
I love Five Guys and go there a lot. But does Shake Shack really use lower quality beef? They serve Pat Lafrieda's burgers while Five Guys uses Schweid and Sons. Both about the same in terms of quality.
I don't mind paying more for quality, freshness. and taste. The closest 5 Guys is a half hour drive for me, but I still make the trip on a regular basis.
Best sandwich 2 thick sliced onions instead of bread. Put a cold hotdog in the center. Layered hot lettuce piping hot ketchup. A little more onion garnish.
Salute to these workers for actually taking time to prepare these meals presentation is there fresh and hotness is there and clean sanitation I love to see it
It's been ages since I've been to a Five Guys. Though the burgers are pretty good, the best part use to be that you'd order a "small fry" and they'd literally half-fill a to go bag with them. Seriously, it's like they ignore the size of the container and just dump a load of fries in the bag--a potato lovers dream. Oh, and they have malt vinegar at the condiment counter which, IMHO, is 100% the best condiment for french fries.
The extra fries technique is a really cool gesture that goes a long way with my opinion of them as a business. Plus, toppings are free and a lot of them have free peanuts
Want fries? FG gives you a large serving and then dumps 50% more in the bottom of the bag just for laughs. No one ever leaves FG saying, "I didn't get enough fries."
@@oldben1800 I suggest that five guys will have udi's gluten free burger buns, and dairy free cheese slices for the beef, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and pickles, with ketchup, and also udi's gluten free hot dog buns for the hot dog with mustard, and ketchup.
Gotta appreciate how they squash their beef patties kinda gently compared to other patty squashers I've seen on here, they don't leave the iron on them to the point that every single bit of juice is squeezed out
@@resjr.2235 five guys fries are the best fast food fries in America. They are thick enough where you get the actual potato taste and are perfectly salted, not too crispy where it tastes like it’s swimming in oil. Also, you can get malt vinegar to put on them which is a bonus because no other place in America does that for some reason, even though it’s normal in the UK
They usually use a Idaho potato depending on the market….using a three compartment water filled sink they free cut the potato with the skin on into the water, then rotate to the other sinks for three washes to remove the starch and sugar…..they then fill the baskets for the potatoes to drain….then they blanch the potatoes at 300, if you pinch the potato and it doesn’t break its blanched properly……second cook at 325, and final cook at 350 for serving to customers…..this process insures a firm hard finish on the outside and a baked potato finish on the inside…..lightly salted and served with toppings or condiments…..
I don't typically eat fast food, but on the occasions I've had Five Guys, their meals have been really good. And they are very generous with the fries.
yeah you pay for it too. They are expansive for a fast food company in the netherlands at least ( where i come from ) . But yes one of the best burgers out there :)
Looks like all of the items are all freshly prepared. Nothing fast food about that. The burger is "home made" literally. McDonald's on the other hand is fast food from their buns to their toppings.
Lived in the US for 14 years, love Five Guys. Have moved back to Australia now and the first Five Guys has just opened here, only problem is it is not in my state, hurry up and open one in Queensland.
Eating Five Guys has always been a treat, man. Even though they cost more compared to other fast food joints, it’s worth every penny. Burgers and fries are both top-notch in my opinion.
The Five Guys place in the food court of my city's mall always always has a line! But the burgers and fries are always worth the wait. And I still prefer them over In-n-out (their dang meat patties taste too salty).
When I lived in Washington, we used to go to Five Guys Burgers and Fries all the time. Unfortunately, I had to move to Canada, and the town we live in now - even the large city an hour away - doesn't have Five Guys. You can imagine me and my family was pretty torn. One day, we traveled to an even larger city that was two hours away from our home (1 hour from the closest city). When we were driving along the highway that went into the city, we stumbled across a Five Guys and all collectively let out the loudest gasp ever. Finally, we could go back to the boring, American "tradition" of ordering a large to-go bag full of fries and the best burgers ever. I'm really craving Five Guys now.
@@michaelone9475 actually, it's not. Here's one (of many) reasons why; women don't get sentenced to death for having abortions in Canada. Can't say the same for America. But sure, keep arguing politics under a burger video.
Primeiro estabelecimento de comida americana que vejo trabalhando com dedicação, tratando a comida com carinho e capricho na montagem. I like so much! Congrats
Just had a cheeseburger from there and went online to get some 'behind the scenes' see if they had dirty secrets like McDs but it seems like an honorable business thus far. Kudos. Real food is hard to find nowadays, especially in the fast food industry
Five Guys is a well-oiled machine making the best burgers and fries! Simple ingredients are the best and tastiest. Way overpriced? Yes, but it’s a treat, not a daily meal. 😋😋😋
I agree with you. I see a lot of people complaining about the prices but this is a big step up from your typical fast food joint and they always give you a ton of fries. I'm lucky to have one right by my place, but like you said, it's a treat, not something I'm going to eat every day.
@@10DollarProductions I've too often seen people act as though Five Guy's is to be treated as a normal meal and it blows my mind. Why would you eat out that much, let alone at that expensive of a place?
love seeing things like this, as I am looking to start my own burger restaurant, videos like these are good for inspiration and gave a good inside look at how these fast-food chains operate.
Hey this is my local five guys! Great to see you guys coming in to visit! There's a lot of good burger places around here if you ever need a suggestion. :)
It looks good. But no seasoning on the beef? Why you gotta squeeze out the juices of the patty tho?? It would taste a whole lot better with seasoning & not squeezing the juices out
5:27 the care they put the sauce on! I got a burger from a another large well known burger place, and the cheese slice was half out of the box, wrapped up over the outside of the lid, and the sauce 1/2 iin the bottom box. I was not loving it. In fact I was mcPissed.
My uncle owned a 5 guys for years... His head would have exploded when they flopped another round of meat on that grill without giving it a scrape first. That said... 5 guys is still the best burger joint in the game. People that complain about the price, should just keep buying the garbage from McDonalds, and keep their brokeness to themselves.
Worked at Five Guys for a little bit in college. Also worked in the kitchen over at Assateague State Park every summer for like 4 years, from the end of my junior year in high school to my junior year in college. Don't miss the kitchen at all.
@@pulvertoastmann468 All the delicious foods in Korea are far away! It's sad that it takes 3-4 hours to go to eat. And waiting in the queue, can't eat and ends up running out of ingredients. I want to eat something like that too.ㅠ_ㅠ
I've never seen or been to a Five Guys. Where I live we just got a In-and-Out burger almost a year ago and i never been there either. I don't crave burgers that much and when I do, I just make my own.
Their prices were expensive at $6.59 back then and now it's $11.49, and the fries are outrageously priced. Tommy's Original, In n Out, Habit and 5 guys, you just can't go wrong.
Five Guys is not just a dine-in spot for the best burgers in the country; it is an epicenter where the art of culinary excellence exceeds standard & satisfies the consumer! -The Ofori-Atta Family
Five guys is legitimately really good. They do use peanut oil instead of vegetable oil to cook their potatoes and burgers, and you can tell the taste difference. Plus? No matter how many toppings you put on a burger, they don’t charge you unless you want extra extra toppings. It is pretty expensive, but the regular fries are fantastic also. But the person in the video didn’t eat five guys correctly, as you have to rip the top part of the bag open after dumping the fries and salt in😁
To those that have commented on a poor experience with them. I'm sure there are Five Guy distant franchise outfits that fall short of the original Five Guy quality. My first experience with food from "Five Guys" was at the original/first "Five Guys in Arlington Virginia in the late 1980's. I was impressed. I had a tip from a friend to go there and try it. It was just a little place between many other little shops. Standing room only. There were many people passing through it. The ordering line was a bit long. That was a good sign of satisfied customers. To those that don't know Five Guys. Their small burger is a 1/4 pounder. The condiments are generous sized. Their small fries are an understatement. They are the size of the extra large from any popular fast food places. I went small. It filled me up and I was happy. It cost twice that of the equivalent mass of food from fast food places but half the cost of a burger plus fries bought at a restaurant. I've noticed over the years they have slipped a little in quality for speed. I rarely go there anymore. It's because of my diet and cost.
I LOVE Five Guys, but they are so expensive these days - 3 times the price of McD - and the last time we went the fries weren't very nice (which is really sad, because usually they're wonderful).
I really liked 5 guys. But they have changed on giving large order of fries. Used to be large cup and a full scoop of fries. Now they give you a large cup and measured out of large fries. You are paying close to 20.00 for a double chessburger and large fries.
I know I’m late but I tried it for the first time a few weeks ago. I got a burger and small fry it was 17$ and some change I had to double take at the price. It was good but not worth the money and I wasn’t even completely full
1. Five Guys DOES NOT SALT their burgers. They actually have a policy against it. All of the best chefs in the world will tell you that all meat needs SOME KIND OF SEASONING. 2. The bun is not built to stand up to the amount of toppings and juices in the burger. The poor buns issues are compounded by being wrapped in steam-trapping foil, further softening and already-too-soft bun. The heel will turn to mush and disintegrate before you ever finish the sandwich. 3. The "grilled" onions are barely seared, in fact, they're often still crunchy when you eat them. 4. They're fucking expensive as shit.
Burger is epic but the fries are hands down the best you will ever have. They have skin left on and pile them, overflowing in to the bag. Crunchy, potato sink tasting world class. , just speechless while chowing down on them.
Love the place. There’s option to add every topping, but you dont wanna have everything cuz it’s just taste meh. My favourites are bbq sauce, lettuce, mushroom, and grilled onions.Thier Vanilla Shake and cajun fries are good
Tenho que reconhecer que os americanos sabem o que fazem e oferecem produto de 1ª qualidade para seus consumidores; Espero que daqui a uns 200 anos os brasileiros possam oferecer o mesmo;
Five Guys is so expensive where I live! I think I’ve been there once or twice, and they’re good, but way too rich/greasy for me. My family mostly makes homemade hamburgers at home if we ever get in the mood (which isn’t too often honestly). I prefer Beeps Burgers in Ingleside in San Francisco, plus they have super good chicken strips and Curley fries. Beeps is the one thing I miss about my old neighborhood, but now I live too far away lol.
Five Guys is way better than In-n-Out, in my opinion, and they give you way more food, too. However, Five Guys is more expensive. In-n-Oit is still very popular where I live, and I think a lot of people choose them over Five Guys because of the cheaper price. Personally though, I tried In-n-Out once and didn’t like it, so I’d choose Five Guys and just pay extra haha.
Actually, in my opinion, there is no comparison....In n Out is far better and cheaper. Double Double has no equal. I wish I had one near me in Chi town. But to each their own. Is it wrong that the best thing about 5 guys is the fee peanuts?
In and out is way overrated. Their fries are pretty bad. When people say they love in and out what they really love is the sauce. 5G doesn’t need to drown their burgers in sauce in order to be good.
