They never disclosed why he got cut from the teams though, how does someone who was that much of a legend in high school football get thrown under the bus even though his college film was good and his combine stats were at an elite level?
He never really succeeded all that much in college what on earth makes you think he could make it in the NFL. He got rocked in the Big 10 for the season he was there getting 43 carries for 168 yards in conference play. He never had so much as a 100 yard game against a power conference school in college. Nearly 900 yards rushing as a career high at Rice isn't exactly tearing it up. He didn't make it in the NFL because honestly he just couldn't compete against elite athletes. He also doesn't have combine stats because he wasn't invited to the combine so don't know what the fuck you are talking about their. Pro day stats aren't the same thing.
Well just as someone mentioned in the Above Comments He was Misused by The College Coach because some Coaches are to Egotistical to know how to give a Special Player such as Sam Mcguffie the Right kind of Vote of Confidence, But the greatest Issue is that He should have went to a School that Needed Him, Rice didn't need Him nor did Michigan but the wanted Him for the Attention that it brought the Schools, So why speak that way about the Stats instead of being Intelligent enough to understand the Dynamics of what Goes on behind the Scenes, So I guess that's expecting to much from you because you much have been a SCORE KEEPER STATISTIC CHARTER IN SCHOOL & NOT AN ATHLETE, YOU RAN THE SCORE CLOCK AT SCHOOL OBVIOUSLY WHO HAD NO ATHLETIC SKILL BUT SAM MCGUFFIE WAS AN AWESOME ATHLETE BUT WAS MISUSED INTO INJURIES, BUT YOU MENTIONED NON OF THESE THINGS YOU ROOKIE MINDED MORON*
Torch Reed Are you his certified ball cleaner or something? Have to be tonsil deep up his ass to get that angry over the fact that he just wasn't that good at the next level when you start seeing more and more amazing athletes. He was on scout teams in the NFL as well. Pro coaches looked at him. They all discarded him because he just wasn't that good. Yeah injuries suck. Then again when you are 190 lbs soaking wet in the big 10 you are going to get rocked.
Love this pickup by the raiders! I remember when a friend showed me this mixtape when he chose Michigan as his college. Ive been a fan of his for years and now he got a chance to be on my favorite team! I hope he makes it I will be one of his biggest fans
I was on this 07-08 Bobcat Team...guess who knocked us out of the playoffs...Andrew fucking Luck. Best QB we ever played against...Sam couldn't turn the tide of that game.
McGuffie is the #1 running back on University of Michigan's Depth Charts. He'll be starting against Utah which I'll be at the game!!! (University of Michigan season ticket holder here and die hard maize and blue fan!)... just wanted to give people some updates on anyone looking forward to watching McGuffie start his career against Utah on Saturday!
+jartstopsign not really. You can blame poor #'s on Rodriguez who was total fail. After concussions at Michigan, and other stuff im sure, he went on to Rice and absolutely rocked it as a receiver. Still, McGuffie had some amazing plays while at Michigan.
I completely agree with. McGuffie started the first few games as a true freshman! He got hurt, and wasn't the same since, but he has come up with CLUTCH receptions on 3rd down or during our 2 minute drills. We have 48 freshman, 32 sophmores, 19 junoirs, and 15 seniors. In 2010, we'll have either Shavodrick Beaver or Tate Forcier runnin our offense, not threet or sheridan, we'll have a total of 80 upperclassman, RR will have his recruits, and we'll be back, next year will be better, but 2010 man!
Normally I hate most music people put behind highlites, but these songs are pretty good and make the video even better... ...that and the fact that this guy is a badass...
I agree, look at all of those freshman that start and come in from the bench and play! That comeback against Wisconsin is nothing short of a miracle considering we only had 21 total yards of offense in the first half! A young team like Michigan will be a national title contender in about 2 years when they all are junoirs and when these sophmores are seniors! Plus we have talented running quarterbacks coming in (Beaver and Forcier). We'll get better next year, and do great things in 2 years!
I'm thrilled that we've got McGuffie, and i totally agree that he fits the offens perfectly. I think he should be the starting punt returner and kickoff returner, although i don't know if RR is trying out mcGuffie at those spots.
I was in middle school when he was at Fair, we use to go watch him play and he was the biggest threat throughout the district and behind Andrew luck for the houston area. before sam it was Omar, conte was his last name I believe
i read he used to run curbs as a kid- as in curbs of streets- at full speed- to practise his balance and foot co ordination. amazing. he s a compact freak full of fast twitch.
"You guys got a hell of a player barring injury." I totally agree with you. i expect McGuffie to be invited to new York at least once. I'm just saying that i wouldn't start him as a TRUE FRESHMEN, especially considering we already have three seasoned veterans in Brown, Minor, and Grady. I would give him a few carries a game as a substitute, then when he is a junior and senior, I'd make him the full time starter. He is indeed a special player, and fits RR's offense perfectly
This kid's incredible. He runs blazingly fast, changes directions quickly, can jump over people, and manages to navigate through clumps of players who would have otherwise tackled him. His legs are like tireless pistons. Wow. Great athlete.
He'll probably be the starter in his junior and senior year, and a key sub in his freshmen and sophomore year. He;s going to be a great one at Michigan. Go Blue!
Dude, McGuffie is just a true freshman, and Minor is puttin up sick stats when he starts, not McGuffie, McGuffie will have his great time at Michigan, but right now, Minor whether you like it or not, deserves to be the starter. Go Blue!
I was looking through my old saved favorites, and i completely forgot about this guy, too bad his college career never took off, i thought he was going to be a monster in college football.
Michigan students call him Sam "Pinball Pete" McGuffie because of his pinball-like agility. Pinball Pete's is also the name of an arcade in Ann Arbor where he goes to school.
Ya exactly, make that a TRUE freshman and not redshirted. Every non-Michigan fan can laugh THIS year, but I tell you what, in a year or two when we have our few running quarterbacks (Forcier, Beaver, and Feagin), McGuffie will have that year of experience and be more of a home-run threat!
Here's how he gets that many views: he's the most exciting runningback on youtube. Only the videos of Noel Devine even compare to this video. McGuffie is just amazing. Go Blue!
I attended school with Sam. I had english, all my science courses, & even helped him out with latin (being an A student) in high school. All that talk about how him transferring colleges is what ruined his college football career & crap...I hate that! I recall him being under a lot of pressure for college decisions senior year of hs, & his transfer from Michigan had to do with being too far from home. He's still playing at Rice. You can't deny the fact: SAM IS ONE HELL OF A RUNNING BACK!
theres a reason they use the 40 as a measuring stick for football...b/c statistically most runs are within a 40 yard stretch...plus sam's shuttle is sick
word. He's going to be invited to New York at least once in his career, probably in 2010 or 2011, once Carlos Brown, Brandon Minor, and Kevin Grady have graduated. Between McGuffie, Terrance Robinson, Michael Shaw, and Fitsgerald Toussaint, Michigan is set at TB until 2013. Go Blue! Also, if McGuffie buffs up, he can be a top 10 pick
He just a true freshman, and Brandon Minor is a beast, it was the right thing to make Minor the starter, Sam will be a great one at Michigan, just not until we bring in Forcier and Beaver, their dual-threat ability will make the defense to worry about them and guys with lots of speed like Sam. 2010 is the year Michigan fans that we will be in the top 5 and be a legit national title contender! Go Blue!
I completly agree, and since everybody thinks he can't juke, with his speed in RR's spread offense, that offense is built for him to get in space and since he's immpressing a lot of scouts asnd the Michigan coaches, and will get playing time this year according to the o-coordinator, apparently, he's a pretty damn good running back to be able to play for Michigan as a TRUE freshman!
I agree, the speedy recruits are comin in, including Shavodrick Beaver and Tate Forcier, along with Justin Feagin cause he'll be a redshirt freshman next year. And Beaver and Forcier are enrolling early in January making them able to practice with Michigan in the spring! Go Blue!!!!!!!
I agree Renegade. Kid is almost 6'1" now, and 196lbs. I honestly don't want to see him get past 215lbs. I don't want him to lose any of his speed/agility. He should make Michigan very happy the next few seasons.
Sam, whether you transfered because of family issues or because you don't want to play for a team with a shity future, I just want to say that I appreciate you contributing to us in your true freshman season. Richrod wrongly threw you to the wolves by starting you for half the season, and you had your struggles, yes. But you were amazing against Notre Dame, played fine against miami and Illinois, socred two huge TD's against Utah and Wisky, and showed us you are the real deal........
wow austin scott from parkland high school. and former penn state running back. was the greatest high school running back ever! he has the fourth most rushing yards in a season in the nations history. He has PA's state records in career rushing yards, touchdowns, and most points in a season.
He's quick, agile and has a great eye for the holes, which means you have to give credit to the blocking. Some running backs make it happen without the blocking (Sanders) but I don't think McGuffie would be nearly as good as he is without his blockers.
Man, this guy runs like Forrest Gump in the open field & he's got the sickest cuts I've ever seen. I can't wait to watch this kid in Rich Rodriguez's offense.
Another Michigan fan here. We embarrassed the "M" today... plain and simple. I'll admit it. However, McGuffie was the ONLY one worthy of wearing the winged helmet. The guy is a freaking star in the making and there's no denying that. Hurricane Ike ain't got nothin on McGuffie!
Quizz Rodgers went to a 4a school, Mcguffie went to a 5a..but both played in the houston area.. Quizz went to Lamar Highschool (i think) and mcguffie went to Cy Fair.
mcguffie is a beast he is fast and can break open field tackles and he's got mad ups.. if he bulks up a little and keeps his speed this guy will be even more dangerous... im looking forward to seeing him run with rice
Between Carlos Brown, Brandon Minor, Kwvin Grady, and Sam McGuffie, Michigan isn't going to miss Mike Hart at all in 2008. Their runninggame is going to dominate. Go Blue!
Exactly and ppl forget about track speed and the surface. Grass and turf speed in pad with a football in one arm makes a difference...If Reggie Bush and Sam McGuffie raced 100 "yards" in pads on a football field with a football being chased by defenders, the speed might be a lot more similar...plus 40 and 60 yard runs are usually the longest straight line runs in football...the rest is cutting and agility plus acceleration not just "top end" track speed.
His blocking is very good, but what he does once in the open field is really the amazing thing his combination of speed, agile cuts and power is what make him such a threat. and a lot of the time once he's outside he gets to a defender before a blocker does and destroys them. itsll be different in college but he's got somethin goin for him
once he gets some support and the offense gets speed at QB and the spread is offective like it was in the 2nd half against Wisconsin, he and Michigan are going to be back on top of the college football world!!
