A bit sad that they discarded this idea with the new cars, but if you look closely at the new GT's headlights you can see a little swing beneath them imitating the "Speedmark" called logo. THAT took me some time haha!

The F1 is truly a amazing car. It came out in 1993, it can do over 240MPH, 0-60 in 3.1, and a prototype did the nurburgringin 7:11. With modern tires it could probably get into the high 2s range for 0-60 and possibly even do a sub 7 minute lap. It took 16 years for a car to beat it around the nurburgring and it took 13 years for its top speed to be beaten. It is still a hypercar today which shows how bat shit insane it was in 1993. It is truly one of the best cars ever.

You're forgetting modern safety requirements. In 93 you could get away with a lot that now would add tons of bulk and weight if you tried to build one today.

Mclarens have always been a favorite for me. As a child I was obsessed with the F1. When the 12c came out I was super excited too lol. Not that I could afford one right now. The P1 is just an amazing technological marvel.

Not really, it's buildquality is vastly inferior to the cars after it. And compared to other brands, you can get better for same amount of money. Porsche 997 Gen 2 Turbo S is faster and cheaper, not to mention more reliable. Fun fact: The Mule for the MP4/12C was a Ferrari 360.

I remember working at Dunsfold Aerodrome, where they shoot Top Gear. Lot of automotive companies use that track as well. But the best day was definitly when I saw McLaren 720S right in front of the office. At that time, it didn't had any badges and it was in black-white-blue camouflage livery to hide details, but you only needed one second to know - it must be new McLaren. Absolutely BLISTERING machine.

Fun fact. Mclaren F1 used the Honda Nsx as a benchmark. Gordon Murray the designer owned one and even approached Honda to make an engine for the F1 as Mclaren were using Honda power in F1 and we're dominant at the time Look it up . Quite interesting

You forgot to tell before Mclaren resort to using BMW engine, chief engineer Gordon Murray was really keen on using Honda's engine because he was so impressed by Honda NSX and during the time Mclaren Formula 1 team were also using Honda motor. Hr went to Honda's Tochigi Research Center on two occasions to persuade them to build for the McLaren F1 a 4.5 litre V10 or V12. But in the end he could not convince them to do it, and the McLaren F1 ended up equipped with a BMW engine

Anas Takiyudin they COULD NOT do it which is different, I love the nsx but it was a motorsport failure....went to le mans five years. And barely won one class win......Two or three years it had reliability issues and didnt finish the race.......it was better honda didn't make the engine..........

Miguel Garcia The reason they won't do it because Japan was in the bubble era economy and when it burst it makes manufacturer trimmed down costs and for that reason Honda politely refused the request. Beside Honda NSX has excellent record in national and Asian level series. Their Le Mans effort was spearheaded by all Japanese team, they are not used to Le Mans and had language barrier. Beside Honda engine powered McLaren F1 in the past with a success that Modern Mercedes hasn't yet achieved.

I think the car that Bruce McLaren died in is worth to mention. It was *McLaren M8D* One of few cars that actually can compete with mighty 917. It has Chevrolet V8 producing up to 750hp, in 1970!

McLaren Automotive is a UK company. All McLaren's operations are based in Woking, England. Bruce McLaren was based in the UK as well. He and (1964 F1 World Champion) Denny Hulme won Driver To Europe scholarships from NZ motor racing clubs to fund their opportunity. Fellow kiwi Chris Amon joined them later and ended up racing for Ferrari in F1. Amon and McLaren won Le Mans together in a Ford GT40.

Actually McLaren F1 was NEVER intended to go racing, even Gordon Murray at first rejected it. But handful of well heeled customer persuade Ron Dennis to create GT1 version in fledging BPR Global Series (That would become FIA GT1).

It's also worth pointing out that the F1 GTRs shown in the clips are the fabled Longtail version - all but three roadgoing F1s were Short Tails, which is why the former is so rarely seen in games.

He's a bonafide Kiwi legend down here. every Kiwi knows this guy, he's a household name. Way ahead of his time too. Never content to copy what everyone else was doing, he was always looking to the future. RIP. Wonder what kind of crazy builds he'd come up with today?
