I used to be a hardcore gym rat and runner, and I would obsessively count my macros. I was thin but still had a layer of plush on me. When I started eating a starch-based diet and walking 4-5 miles daily instead, my body leaned out. It is such a relief (in my late-30s) to not have to count calories and kill myself in the gym. There’s no more sustainable way to stay in shape, I’m convinced, which doesn’t make me fear my 40s. Thanks for the constant inspiration, Kiki! I’ve always loved your videos.
Due to pandemic I started walking 30-40 minutes daily up and down street slopes and ate small portions and lost 70 lbs weight, I’m gonna try half and half starch and veggies. Thanks for everything!
I've watched so many that follow The Starch Solution and you are the most well versed in sharing how to implement this lifestyle. And you really just have such a sweet personality that spreads a bit of joy in this crazy world. Thank you so much!
I agree, really wonderful explantation! Her and @highcarbhannah are great at explaining calorie density! I really appreciate this Kiki. It is helping me a GREAT deal!
Chedder Bug It’s called “the Starch Solution”. I couldn’t post the link here but you can easily find it on Amazon, both hard copy and Kindle. McDougal “program for maximum weight loss” is another book by Dr. McDougal. I recommend you read them both especially the first one. Good luck to you on this journey. You will not regret it 💜
Kiki, I’d like to express my appreciation for the amount of effort you put into your channel. Referencing the book, The Starch Solution, highlighting it’s a program that continues to work for you and educating, has helped me grasp this lifestyle. Beautifully and thoughtfully done! Xoxooxoxo (I’ve made the pickled onions.....LOVE!!!!)
Gracias Kiki! We are loving your recipes. ❤ I'm making those potatoes today! My hubby is looking great! 😘 85 down and keeping it off! 😍 No medication 58 and 57! Doc reported I'm in excellent health at annual check up! 🙏 Peace, love, good health and happiness to all! ☮❤🙂
You have literally changed my life! You showed me this lifestyle was possible! Once I saw a fellow Latina excelling on a WFPB diet and still eating foods she loved I was sold! I never could have done this without you Kiki! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! If you ever have an event or something in Denver I would love the opportunity to meet you and thank you in person!
So true. I can't believe how much of a difference it makes to see someone with my background do this successfully. I've watched Hannah for well over 7 years and have learned a great deal, and I love her. Still, something just clicked when I saw Kikis first video. I am so happy!! And I feel more successful this time♡
I just wanted to THANK YOU for this awesome content. I went vegan about 4 months ago due to health reasons. Luckily, I stumbled upon your channel. This is such any easy way to eat healthy. I meal prep as per your recommendation on Sunday. I can get dinner on the table in 30 min. I have lost 20 lbs to boot! At 50 that is a HUGE DEAL! So, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Purchased the books, too. Life changing!
I’m like Kiki and only love white basmati rice, I’ve tried several of the others, wild rice and brown rice are ok, brown is chewy and nutty but I like my rice white and fluffy so white is by far my favourite so that’s what I eat and it’s easy to digest, which makes it perfect for me; however, I haven’t tried black rice so I’ll give it a go but I just love light, white and fluffy basmati rice 😍
Thankful for these videos kiki! I used to be so afraid of carbs before I moved to a completely whole food plant based diet and it literally changed and healed SO much in my life. I am forever grateful to plants 🌱
I’ve been trying to stay on a whole food plant based diet and I just keep messing up! But my bloodwork from last week came back so elevated for glucose and cholesterol that my Dr ordered that I stay on this diet! It’s eat to live now! No choice! I really needed this review. I might have to watch it a couple times to help it sink in😆! Thanks Kiki!
All your numbers will improve in a very short period of time. You won't believe it. I watch these types of videos all the time. It's great to get inspiration from others. This is a great community. Good Luck to you💚
Love your videos! At first I did not think I could eat veggies for breakfast, even though I didn't have any problems throwing veggies into an omelet. It's definitely a mindset thing. But this week I started buying Trader Joe's bagged cabbage, steaming it and sprinkling it with Frontier's Dill & Vinegar nutritional yeast. It's so yummy and really helps keep me full.
Needed this today, we are still in lockdown 2 in Melbourne Australia and it's hard. A few sneaky non compliant food has snuck back in daily. Thank you Kiki
Girls/Y'all when she said " I know my husband, he's only cooked for me twice in 17 year's", I had to laugh and just feel that love and understanding. I love your channel and you so gosh darn much.
SO MUCH TO LOVE about this video, Kiki...all the health content (of course), seeing Nacho find that extra layer of comfort on the throw blanket when he can pick anywhere on your huge puffy bed, the hiding of the last portions of food (yup, done that!), the step counter (great idea to set that goal and JUST GET WALKING!), those gorgeous plates (yessss to cilantro and pickled onions!), and everything else! THANK YOU! And a simple swap I have made is when my family has whole grain pasta, I use the same sauce (avocado pesto or marinara) but I put it on steamed, cubed gold potatoes...I like it even better than pasta now, and I like how I feel after eating it...more satisfied and my digestion is better!
Yup I hide in my pantry when I don’t want to share! 😂 Currently eating your mushroom soup. It’s delicious! Down 17 pounds in 17 weeks! Thanks for the help Kiki!
So glad I'm not the only one who doesn't care for baked apples and prefers them crisp! Everything looks so easy and delicious. I've learned so much from you!
Thank you for all you show us. I’m lazy the older I get with cooking, especially just for me. You make this way of eating look less overwhelming. So a big thank you!
This is the best episode Kiki. So enjoyed this! I like how you showed the pasta meal reduction to half the calories with veggies! That was a very clear visual to illustrate the point. I do this too but I love how you explained. Thanks Dlee
I love your page and insta. Kiki I would love for more Mexican receipts. My kids are having problems transitioning to eat whole food plant based diet. They love love Mexican food so I’m hoping I can sway them with more Mexican recipes. Your such an inspiration and your so beautiful 😘
So loving your videos. I’m 55 and I’ve been sick all my life and finally found a fix. This is the next step. Thanks for the quick and easy mama bear advice.
thank you for this! I've been feeling really unmotivated lately and watching this video has sparked a new drive to continue my journey. :) thank you for the inspiration.
LOL!!!V KIKI I had a Déjà vu moment ..when you spoke about the movement of the hands as you speak,, I CAN NOT talk without moving my hands!!! Like the brain goes dead!! ... I felt the VIBE !! LOL
I have found that when I make oatmeal , I add equal amounts of cauliflowers rice. This works really well with cinnamon apple oatmeal with vanilla and a little sweetener.
Thanks for the tip on steaming your potatoes. I’ve put mine in the InstantPot more times than I can tell you and every single time - some will be cooked through and the other half are hard in the middle. Everyone says they just put them in for 10-12 minutes. I don’t know how because mine just aren’t cooked. I’ll definitely use the steam feature and try that this weekend. I will definitely make those potatoes. I LOVE potatoes and I LOVE rosemary. Yum! So much great information. Thank you!!
Laura L Vegan Don’t forget to add about a cup of water...if you haven’t done so. Comes out perfectly for me on my steam veggies setting. I have the older instapot...cooks about 10 mins. Hope that helps.
This was an awesome video Kiki. Thank you!!! You mentioned how the kids eat differently than you sometimes or how you’ll make something for them different than how you would eat. I have 3 boys ages 12, 10 & 9. I’d love to see a video about how you feed your girls. Thanks so much for all you do!!!
Wonderful information and recipes!!! Thank you so much!!! Could you possibly put out a video showing us your batch cooking day? My biggest challenge is how to get myself organized and how to think about what I need to do. It would be great to see how you go about preparing all of the foods you will need for the week.
I just had to stop by and say THANK YOU for the breakfast sweet potato/apple recipe! I just made it and its amaaaazing, plus so filling! I needed a break from smoothies in this fall weather and this hit the spot! I love all of your recipes and this one is my new fave. =)
I am listening to the audiobook The starch solution. It's weird how the universe sends you messages right when you need it. I am a runner and haven't ran since early Feb because of my arthritis in my ankles I have struggled just to walk. I know it's food because I have gained 20lbs and feel not good. I lost 75lbs over 5yrs ago now and follow the autoimmune protocol (usually) I have been wanting to switch to plant based but have issues with soy and a lot of different veggies (broccoli and cauliflower spinach) but after listening to the audiobook, I realize I can do it. I really like the recipes you have shared and High carb hannah have shared. you guys make food I know I can eat or can sub out some of the veggies you chose for ones I know won't irritate me. I am at the section of the book where he is talking a lot about arthritis and I felt like wow.... the universe sent me looking for answers in the right direction. Thanks for sharing. I going to give it a try!
This is so helpful! I have always been super active weight training 5x per week and eating a good balanced vegan diet for years but since having my baby 5 months ago, I have really struggled losing my baby weight despite walking every day, working out 2/3 times per week and eating relatively good! I have never been overweight before and I have struggled so badly with body image. I am so excited to try this 50/50 plate idea and see how I get on! Thank you for inspiring me! X
I love that you said walking for exercise. That’s really the only activity I enjoy and it takes the pressure off that you said it was enough for you to still lose weight. Just discovered your channel and it’s helping me getting motivated finally. Thank you! 🙏🏻
This is exactly why I LOVE you so so much. Love how you explain it all AND love that you show that you can eat so much and still lose weight. 🥰Thank you so so much 😍
You and chelsea mae have quickly become 2 of my favorite youtubers. Personable, simple approach in your explaining of things. Keep up the great work Kiki! :)
I watch lots of vegan youtube stars. You are one of my favorites because you just get to the point, not a ton of endless rambling and chatter. I like to get recipes from some other people, but I just go to the video and immediately go to the recipe link to avoid too much talking. Thanks for being sweet and to the point! :)
Love love my mornings with your videos. Starts my day off in a positive light. I really love your explanations of this way of eating. Lately I’ve been doing overnight oats with a spoonful or 2 of pumpkin with cardamom cinnamon and allspice. It’s so nice in the morning. I hide food from my husband all the time and it works like a charm! 😊 Lime over pintos and rice 🍚 I will definitely be trying that. My husband would love also. He’s Dominican so those flavors--yum! Blessings to you and your family 🐶along with the Plantiful Kiki channel!
Heather MacLean you’re welcome. You can add more of course but I’m not a real lover of pumpkin but the creaminess mixed with the spices make it really delicious.
Awesome video In 2016 I was eating fruits and vegetables. I felt amazing but then I stop and gain back 25 pounds. But last week I begin my journey again going to do it again fruits and vegetables. Rice and beans , lentils. Thank you 🙏 you are an inspiration. By the way I hide food too.
Thank you Kiki for all the information you impart! Please, please share the sugar free ketchup recipe with us. I am a diabetic and I've been looking for a recipe for sugar free ketchup. I over bought on fresh veggies yesterday. One being a huge beautiful cabbage. I'm going to try roasting it like you showed. 🌻
These fall inspired recipes give me life! I struggle so hard in these colder months, to stay motivated and on track. I love your comprehensive method of explaining how to do the McDougall program. The step by step with your sweet demeanor, really motivates me. It's like from one mother to another, saying and most importantly, showing that it really can be done! Thank you Kiki, for all that you do. I see you and appreciate you! P.s. I can't wait for your next cookbook!❤❤
Mate, your attitude to your husbands lack of a weight problem is soooo delicious. And so relatable. When you explained how he can eat all the good stuff like unrestricted plant fats, without gaining....im sitting here nodding and growling... YEP YEP AND DOESNT IT MAKE YOU WANNA TEAR YOUR HAIR OUT?? OR BETTER YET~ TEAR HIS HAIR OUT??! But OUR GURU KIKI, aka Ms. Cool Calm & Collected remains her gorgeous gracious self, merely giving us the slow blink, the small subtle head-toss, then finishing with the killer phrase slowly expelled thru pursed lips......"LUCKY HIM." The restraint you show in your use of sarcasm is an absolute riot! Its always on point ~ with that delightfully dry delivery. Just now i was re-watching Mama Bear doin her finger wiggle-waggle bit and hubby goes: i dont know what youre watching but i love it when you cackle & hoot! pmsl
Kiki, you are so wonderful. I don’t comment often (only second time, actually), but you are such a joy to watch. I laugh. I relate. I get so many incredible ideas from you. You are so kind and real and funny! Thank you for sharing with us!
Thank you for teaching me to read labels. I found out today that our oat and soya milk have oil added to them!! Sadly, our market is limited and milks that are vegan are hard to find. So I shall make my own 😊 you have no idea how much you've opened my eyes ❤❤ thank you ❤❤
this helped me sooo much now i finally get it the 50/50 plate. i lost 100 lbs over a period of 2 years have kept it off for 5 well except for the 20 i gained back and cant seem to lose sooo going to try this THANK YOU SO MUCH
Broke my ribs and re-injured my wrist....so.... I’m doing walking as long as my 8 month old can handle it. Getting only 3k-4500 steps. Will do a second time in the evening if my hubs is up to it. Weight stalled for a little bit. I figured out why so now it is coming off again. Also I didn’t do much right after my injury and my husband still can’t fathom cooking rice without oil so... anyway... just a minor detour. I appreciate his help and I’m moving well enough now. Prepped cabbage and broccoli last week, and that also really helped me get back on track. I didn’t grow up eating much cabbage but it is a little sweet to me.
Thank you for your candid ways to make this change! I have been walking 10000+ steps for over 3 years and now I need to focus on my food. Thanks for making it happen!
Hello Kiki. Thanks for the inspirational videos🍀 When we pickle our cabage we cut out the root and then we would peel the root to the smooth part. It's a fun, refreshing snack. It tastes like kholrabi👏🍀
I would love to see starch solution meals that someone could make for a packed lunch. Maybe without a microwave or something you could eat cold. That would help me out a bunch.
First off I would like to say I absolutely love this channel. I watch it every time you post a new video. I’ve also binge watched everything that you have produced over the years. You have made this lifestyle for me attainable. I had been struggling with WFPB for over five years. I have not of course gone back to the SAD diet, but I was so confused with the wfpb lifestyle and had not lost even 1 lb in 5 years. I first found you while watching a video. You were talking to Harshdeep Swami. I found your page and have been watching you ever since. I enjoy your simple recipes and now understand Dr. McDougall’s starch solution. I finally started losing weight and inches. Many more inches than pounds, but that to me is a win. So thank you so much for always sharing. As for cabbage. It’s one of my favorite vegetables. Cabbage rolls even lazy man are fantastic. I would love to see how you would make them. I’m always looking for new ways to cook them. Thanks for everything 😊
Amazing meals and you are like me I didn't like many of the brands of brown rice...but, I found for my taste buds was Lundberg family farms sprouted short brown rice. Its consider a treat for myself .I'm a East Texan/rural country chic so, all my foods have to have flavor PERIOD..plus, pickled onions are life to a wfpb 50/50 plate. I also, make a special trip to town to my local Asian Store for forbidden black rice which is a great option for the white rice..they have a brown rice there too. Congratulations on your subbie goal..🔥❤💯❗
Hi Kiki! I'm a new subscriber to your channel, I really love your journey 🙌 I tried the vegan life but unfortunately my family def discouraged me saying that I can get really sick if I don't do it right or that it'll affect my body in the long run. So after watching you it seemed super healthy . So I started my healthy journey again. I started doing the half and half starch/ non starch plate. But realized and seemed to work for me that I eat my starchy food at lunch and my non starchy for dinner, and i just saw that you will talk about this as I'm typing and watching!! Love you Kiki!! God Bless !
One of the BEST stories I’ve ever read to show me that whole food plant based eating is the ideal diet for health is Meg Wolff’s book: “Becoming Whole”.
My kids are loving cabbage lately too! I can't even cook it without them digging in and taking it from the cutting board haha. Amazing how when we present them with healthier options they eat them! 😁
So happy and grateful to have found this channel! I've been struggling with my vegan eating for almost two years. I bought your cookbook Plantifully Lean and it is bomb-diggity!!! I have almost every page ear-marked for recipe ideas! Thank you for your spirit and inspiration!
Another of your jam packed videos....full of great foundational information, tips, recipes, beautiful presentations, and casual, down to earth conversation. Always a pleasure to watch and learn from you.
Oh, thank you for the fruit option. I am one who commented about eating veggies. I don't like eating in the morning period and veggies at that time makes me feel so gross. That's super helpful.
Love you and Hannah! Going through my food journey trying to find triggers and how to make this wfpb 50/50 vegan life easier and something I don't have to think about. Keep up the good work. Real inspiration for me.
You have inspired me! I can't wait to have my health back and be slim, vibrant and clear minded.♡ I'm havent been diligent with 50/50 plate yet. But After 4 years of keto, I have been following Starch Solution for 4 months now. But weight loss has stopped, so its time to get serious on the 50/50! Thank you so much for sharing with us.
I like to eat my veggies combined with my starch (a few bites of cabbage, then a few potato bites), so not veggies first.. But I do eat all of them and I don't eat more starch, so it's still 50/50. Is that okay or is there a special reason (apart from the feeling full) why I should eat them first? And a big thanks to all the great recipes and such a down to earth, honest and funny approach 💛
I also don't like brown rice. That is until I tried short grain brown rice. Game changer for me. Actually like it better than white rice. So glad to see a youtuber with a sheet pan that looks as bad as mine! Are they buying new ones every week?
I stopped at 14:33 to let you you are the best Mom and Wife and you need to take care of you first so you can maintain yourself and family. Hide away girl!!! Lol and loved that you told us so we out here won't be thinking we are the only ones doing this too.
I found that by adding just a couple or tablespoons of nut milk to my fruit and stirring, it cuts a lot of the acid, and makes them funner to eat, Kiki!
Congrats on 100k subscribers!!! You deserve it 💕 love ALL the recipes, as usual :) I’ve been roasting cabbage since last year when I decided to try it out and now it’s a must! I’m doing those potatoes since I did a half batch of your cheese sauce this past weekend ;) I used it to make chili fries and my non vegan family loved it! I also do my exercise in the morning because otherwise we know it just won’t happen, right?! I do strength training at the gym twice a week and I do home workouts and 5 mike power walks on the other days, I feel my best EVER! Keep the recipes coming !
Wow. I did not believe that the baked zucchini would be that good but i tried it and wow super delicious. Gracias Kiki tienes un canal fantástico. Me gusta tu estilo. Im mexican- canadian. I have been vegan for 3 yrs. And all you share with us. Thanks.
I am one of those who can't do veggies in the morning... unless they were in like a vegan omelet or something. I started adding shredded zucchini to my oatmeal and that has been great!
OMG! Did I ever have to stumble up on this video today....weight coming back time...feeling sick....don't know if its flu/cold but think or know its because I'm eating too much of the nut/seed stuff I shouldn't be!!Was even taking in processed Plant based crap!! I need to get back to this video...this Mama Bear is to get This Old Mama (65)Bear back on the losing game!!!I need me a Hannah too! The timing was so on...I'm trying a Non hormonal all natural home made bisquit made with seeds and nuts recommended from a pharmasist...but am adding more seeds, butters on top of that!!!Time to get my POOP in a group!!!Thankyou girly!!!
I want to thank you so much Kiki. I like your no nonsense subtle but tough approach to weight loss. I love the way you and your family create beautiful moments incorporated with a healthy lifestyle. ❤ That's my belief I hold high with my family as well. You are my motivator and you make it easy for me to stick to my weight loss journey. 🙏🚶♀️🍇🌽🌶🥒🥬🥦🍄🍁🍂🎃
Thanks again for a fantastic video! Your explanations and recipes are always amazing. This video is one I would share with those people who are curious about a wfpb lifestyle, and just don’t get it when I try to explain how I eat, or how I keep weight off at 57. It’s the food! 😃 Can’t wait for your next book! Congrats 🎉
I love your videos, and I love High Carb Hannah, too. It makes me happy to know that you two are friends! I have just started roasting cabbage a lot, because I love it so much. I toss it in a little bit of stone ground mustard and then sprinkle salt, onion powder, and garlic powder and it is SO good.
I really enjoy watching your videos…you are so down to earth and you explain everything so understandably and I thank you for that. I have made a lot of your recipes and I’ve just started Dr. McDougalls Maximum Weight Loss and I am loving it!! I was raised a vegan and I am a vegetable fanatic so this lifestyle is perfect for me!! I’ve got a lot of weight to lose…but I’m on course!! Thank you!!
I love the fact that HighCarbHannah is your fitness buddy...walking is the bomb. I reached 16,000 steps a day when I was working two jobs but normally I love my fitbit to motivate me to keep going and reach 10,000. Thank you for your video.
Kiki I love love love your videos! Not only all the wonderful food meals that you provide but I love that in just about every video you’re always going over the starch solution with a detailed explanation on how to be successful with weight loss so greatly appreciate it! By the way I love that pumpkin French toast recipe that you posted weeks ago super delicious!
Love all your recipes! I follow various influencers that eat plant based but haven’t been able to find someone with recipes like yours - simple, fresh, and flavorful. I’m wondering if it’s the Latina in us. My partner said the same thing! He can eat very VERY plain & simple meals and be happy but I love sprinkling extra ingredients like cilantro, pickled items, pico de gallo, etc etc to make things more flavorful
