Measuring for backlash with a dial indicator

Preferably you want to align the dial indicator shaft as straight to ring gear tooth as possible. Leaning it over that far may give you a slightly inaccurate reading.

You need to zero it out and gass it out as well to check the backlash and backsplash 😂😂😂.

This is not the correct way to measure, there is lots of cosine error in placing it not perpendicular.

Young man I would advice anyone here to not take advice from you. You don't have a clue what's going on not even alil bit that dial should be in the middle of the ring gear teeth at a 90degree not in the end of the teeth!
