So we know you guys enjoyed the con, but I hope you enjoyed doing these Gvlogs again, Graham! I've certainly missed them but am so stoked they're back and also that you're feeling better!
I was in that New Phyrexia Sealed. I'm briefly visible in the "Where's James?" shot in Round 2. That was the round where I was so excited that I could hit my opponent for 10 with the Filigree Sylex that I missed lethal and died on the crackback. True mad scientist moment. Went 1-2 and got myself a consolation churro at Reading Terminal Market.
It's awesome to see Philadelphia has one of those walkable markets with diverse food options, like Pike Place or the North Market in Columbus, Ohio. Every city needs these...dare I say multiples of these.
Ah, yes. The ease of a mall food court with the food quality of a hot new hipster restaurant. I wish I had one near me. Depending on the selections it can also be a great way to eat as a group when various people have food allergies/sensitivities.
I am unreasonably happy to see Graham wondering round North American hotels, convention centres and restaurants playing Magic and ruminating (on a meatwich). I gave up playing at the beginning of New Capenna but have got back into Arena recently, and now this! Absolutely the best thing to have happened in 2023, so good to see you all again.
My favourate event to be hosted next door to a Magic GP has to be a sewing convention. Just all these little old ladies wandering around next to the magic players. XD
I realise it was also the case for the first episode of this vlogseries but I just noticed so. I’m happy to see Nolan Pilgrims stuff show up in places I wouldn’t expect it, nice seeing him get recognised for just making good stuff that isn’t just silly songs for youtubers he made back when he went by Phorhead. Didn’t expect the name Phorhead to still be used in the description though, but I suppose it makes sense.
I DO enjoy it, and I DO want to see it. I used to live in Philly for a while, going to that convention center, seeing the market again, thank you, I'm so glad you got to enjoy it! I hope you've been well and feeling better, thank you for being so damn cool.
Those dice in your match against Ben were amazing. I did magicfest Birmingham just before the panini, and the hotel I was staying at (Which wasn't where magicfest was) was hosting a Transformers con at the same time as a Salsa Dancing convention, which was a similar culture clash.
2:15 I too have only been to Philly once, & that was for the 2004 Yu Yu Hakusho TCG Regional at Wizard World Philly. My friend made a nearly 200 card Koenma deck that became a format staple & qualified for Worlds, my other friend made day 2 as top 32, & I did not get past day 1. Given our funds & how hap hazard our trip was driving from STL, we did nothing “fancy” other than a celebratory Red Lobster dinner after the tournament.
I get the rye question. I absolutely hate it, and would very much appreciate them making sure since it's not usually the standard bread outside of specific sandwichs. Reubens for instance, I would know to ask for a different kind of bread.
Reading Terminal Market is the answer to "Where do you want to eat?" It's also the answer to "Do you like ___?" and "Have you tried ___?" It looks like somewhere I'd never leave.
PAX Unplugged 2022 (in the same convention center) shared the building with a teachers' convention. It also felt like a culture clash. I *also* used one of their entrances to get into the con earlier than I should have.
You all in Reading station is making me weirdly nostalgic for a place I've only been once. I had scrapple and eggs in the little diner there after a red eye and it was glorious.
As someone who just attended a Mini ComicCon in their home town, we shared the venue with a Warhammer 40K tournament, a Wedding Show and the Amazon Clearance sale. So glad to see you're well enough to travel G, as watching your vlogs over the past three years on repeat helped me keep my sanity [a bit], while not forgetting the Before Times. Also, I'm just highly amused that all of LRRs N95 masks are branded with the leaf of Canadiana. 🍁
I don't know how I didn't notice it from the last one, but the aspect ratio of this vlog is really cool. the black bars vertical on my phone are real cinematic and if I go full screen it takes up the entirety of my screen. i know not the coolest in the world, but I wanted to share my enjoyment of that and the return of the gvlogs
I once went to a regional fencing tournament, and the convention center was also hosting a local comic con. Since you could just walk into the fencing tournament area without a fee, there were a few comic con goers who marveled at the speed of the fencers, and excited that vendors were selling swords!
Graham, I just want you to know that your "What're they doin' down theah" bit made me laugh so hard I accidentally changed from Standard to Alchemy on my tablet, inadvertently playing the only game of the format ever on my Arena account. Heck you, good sir.
I enjoyed the Finding Waldo. I mean Finding James. Also I just enjoy the G-vlogs. I missed them so much! Great to see you back in good shape (Yes the content is great)!
The Lav is awesom, the stabilisation causes vignetting and odd warping on anamorphic lenses. You can probabby turn the stabilisation off in camera. Thanks for all the effort you go too for these vids
I love these videos because it feels like I'm spending time with a friend, like I got to come to magicon. So don't worry when you tell me about your phone battery needing a charger, or any other seemingly irrelevant detail. Its all good. I'm just working on my other monitor while this makes me feel calm, relaxed and less alone.
We don't really have these kinds of food courts around where I live and when I went to LA in the before times I loved going there and honestly had I not prior engagements at various restaurants with friends I probably would've spent the whole week eating there lol
I am thrilled to watch new GVLOGs and it's cool you use new music it's probably a good time to renew everything, I just miss the old tracks, what about reprising some of the old ones here and there?
I actually liked the iPhone mic sound since the wide stereo ambiance added a lot of atmosphere, but I get that clear voice recordings have to be prioritized.
A bunch white folk jamming out to Japanese anime openings in a Chinese restaurant was probably creating some sort of time-space anomaly, so they had to shut it down.
Ahah I forgot you got chastened at Yi Pin, that's hilarious. Also that's my local Trader Joe's! Con food is such a ripoff. You gotta load up at TJ's next time. And come back and eat more at Reading Terminal, it's really a fantastic place. Between it and Chinatown's amazing food scene, if a food exists, you can get it in those three square blocks.
Having my Ayula commander signed by you would be SO cool :D One day I'll try going to a MagicCon ... Edit: Hey Graham, will you put Copper Host Crusher in Bear Force One ? :P
I actually really dislike rye bread, and usually prefer to sub out sourdough when possible. Whatever people insist pairs perfectly with rye, it always tastes great with sourdough for me.
12:25 I love Dunkin because they know it's not the best, but it's always there when you need it. And I'm from New England, so I'm legally obligated to love Dunkin or they'll kick me out.
