27:00 Splat: There's a minigame to reduce repair costs by a little bit each time you run it. Procceeds to increase overall maintenance cost every time he does it 😅 From 202 to 223.5, 225 then 248. Honestly that looks like an emergency repair to partially repair or swap into less critical areas. It's fine but doesn't do what Splat said.

Besides moving the damage into less critical areas, it also splits up the cost so you can do a minor repair if resources are tight. Based on what he said about the cost of repairs vs a new mech, I'm assuming that the ideal way to play involves just embracing the quirks and accumulated wear that the mechs take on through use, and hope they last through the week

Highfleet is also another game taken under the new wings of Microprose. Konstatin is also a fascinating developer. All of his games take place in a shared universe bound by a literal chain of worlds, a lightless machine void run by an AI called Seraphim, and his logo is diagetic as the symbol of the empire responsible for this technology. Vangers, Hammerfight, and Highfleet are all a shared universe. It just boggles my mind. My only gripe is I wish Konstatin wouldn't cave so easily to criticism. I miss the ship building ambience and the special effects from the older versions, and they were just outright removed.

@@amergingiles People need to stop repeating this myth/actual conspiracy theory ffs. Konstantin Koshutin and Andrey Kuzmin aren't the same people lol. KK, like pretty much every Russian developer ever, just got inspired to make video games after playing Vangers and Perimeter. KranK was hugely influential in the industry and he recently passed away in a car accident. KK acknowledged this on the official HighFleet Twitter. It's also highly debatable whether Hammerfight and HighFleet are in the same narrative universe. Neither have any direct links in their stories, and a lot of authors and not just video game ones, just have things sharing similar narrative designs or frameworks or even names between stories, because creativity is fickle. KK even called HighFleet a "spiritual prequel" which implies it's merely borrowing narrative elements like the very word "Romani" and the jank physics-based tactical combat. It's clearly a separate continuity and until HighFleet gets a DLC or something (so, never, since I don't think KK really does expansion packs) explaining the story connections between it and Hammerfight, it's just a conspiracy invented by an actual crazy person on Reddit who doesn't know anything. Classic Reddit.

I'm all for tough games, but I just don't get why "roguelike" has become the go-to term for describing only half of what old-school roguelikes used to be. Back in the day, roguelikes were split between "hacklikes" and "bandlikes." The former forced you to face increasing difficulty levels, while the latter let you take things at your own speed. They were equally challenging, but the pacing was up to you, not forced upon you. From FTL onward , "roguelikes" seem to think that every turn should amp up the difficulty exponentially. But seriously, why? Can't a game be fun when you can go at your own pace? Remember how Diablo 2 was great even if you could go back and explore old areas whenever you felt like it?
@deadbeef576
@deadbeef576 9 месяцев назад
Thats what I hate about current roguelikes. It feels to me like such a waste of time, you play for a while only to get overwhelmed and lose everything. And then there is the RNG. It is like a lottery, you can only beat the game when the random number god grants you the right numbers. So you could have mastered the game, but cant win because of b.s. RNG.

you know what'd be interesting, is if there were a game where you were ONLY the engineering team. the mechs go out and they come back needing repairs. doing less repairs keeps your crew happy, doing more keeps your bosses happy. when you do less your team is generally more cooperative but the mechs might come back even more damaged than they wouldve been if they went out better repaired, but doing more might cause your team to get exhausted and start making mistakes, damaging the mechs. and then youre also in eastern europe so youre paid in peanuts and have to do a corruption to keep yourself above water, and if you do too much corruption the mechs youre responsible for start coming apart and you get fired, but do too little corruption and you starve to death or something.

I fall in love how deep this simple on fist look game goes. I figured it out mostly. Its teeth breaking hard, sadistic even - but when you win it feels smart. I will maybe post a survival guide at steam. Some tips, rockets are anti armor, use slow mod on guns, first mech is one of the best, put max armor on/turn the shields on, dont touch water before you got underwater ammunition, run two/three or even four missions every move, always produce components and leave some in storage dont use it all, better engines=more weight capacity, you can destroy walls with splash damage (second rocket launcher)/ if you retreat it will stay destroyed, always run from gold sword , hunt red swords, put max armor on/turn the shields on, attack city nodes (contains parts and humans), dont use energy weapons until you get atomic reactor, destroy labyrinths with atomics.

I'll definitely give it a go. I had an idea seeing that the portraits flash when firing, and there are text boxes, etc.. Would love to see this game get modded deep into the pixel art pilot portrait. But you could map a ton of emotes to different situations. Rage, determination, exhaustion, grimmace, exhillaration, etc.. Could even do buffs or debuffs depending on damage output/damage taken and it's relation to crew morale. Pick up loot. Laughter, joy, elation, + Buff. Kill an enemy type + pilot buff, etc.. Take injury, lose a pilot. Negative buff and emotes. I invision more flesh to the pilot veterency system, either gained or inherent. Bad form to already have a suggestion before playing, and it's better to nail mechanics and playability first over fun imagery.. I just know I've played many more hrs of games for how immersed I could get painting my own narratives in between the fabric of the base story world. Had a capital time watching as always ol' bean. Most population experts suggest that the minimum viable human population size is anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000, in order to maintain enough genetic diversity to allow the species to have a realistic chance of survival. Less than that, and you run a real risk of deleterious genes propagating throughout the entire population. It would be possible, with luck, to have a sustainable population start with smaller than that, but it wouldn't be wise to chance it. Having said that, humans are better at potentially practicing (and I hate to use this term), eugenics, and may be able to (as nasty as this sounds), "eliminate" or sterilise certain people who carried harmful genetic mutations - so, if you're willing to be extremely brutal and cold, you could possibly get away with a smaller population. That would, however, also entail the horror of forcing those with "good" genes to breed with those with "good" genes - which would be a very dark, horrid future. There's an interesting paper from Traill, Bradshaw and Brook, in "Biological Conservation" 2007, that goes over the previous estimates for many species, including mammals (it's also free online if you want to look it up). In short, it's always going to be an estimate - and these estimates run anywhere from the bare minimum of 50 (and that's providing everything works out perfectly and we also employ barbarous methods such as eugenics), to 10,000 to 100,000. The higher the number, the better chance, obviously. If I were planning a space colony, I wouldn't want to go any less than 10,000.

Great breakdown. Game has some old school DOS vibes meets "Suits" the episode from Netflix's "Love, Death, and Robots" where a group of mech-driving farmers defend their homesteads from a giant alien, insectoid swarm. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l-3hdfRyAfM.html

This makes me hunger for an Tower Defence Mech Warrior FPS game omg. Imagine. Tyranids like aliens/bugs and mechs like the old MW games or MWO even, each round you place defences. Yeeeeesss as long as it does not look too blocky indie like, but like a spiritual nod to the Battletech universe.

just got this(on sale) and hot damn is it complicated! REALLY enjoying it, but it's one of those games where you are kind of thrown to the wolves to figure things out. There is a manual, but its still a bit ruff and lacking, also doesn't explain everything. Don't go into it expecting not to have to restart after every one of your first 5 battles. Once you lose your first mechs its basically game over.

It's not a game, it is a simulation. They probably came back in time looking for "players" (commanders) who will win them the war in the future. Yeah....I think I'm onto something here.

i was excited after I saw this game here on this channel that I went and bought it. Now I regret it. Took more than 2 hours just to get used to it so I was passed the refund window which I also regret. The game is just terrible to actually play. The interface and customization is annoying as hell to go through every time for a roguelike experience and the way missions works you will have to refit your mechs every time to optimize them which you get punished through gameplay costing engineers and just the amount of real time it takes to do. The worst part in my mind is the the lack of control in combat for your mechs goes counter to the amount of control you have in customizing everything about them, your mechs will do stupid shit in combat no matter how you customize them. During combat there is also a lack of visual feedback needed to make informed decisions. missile badguys, rammers, turrets, bugs, they all look very similar when the game is not paused and they all require different responses to counter and many of your weapons particle effects will hide them from view. It's just not a very good game to play even if it is unique.

Ok so after 6 hours of trial and error i am finally able to actually play the game and its a slog. Reallu not fun and the dev seems to confuse tedium for difficulty. Theres nothing incredible difficult ablut the game and really the only reasons its a massive pain in the ass is the forced iron man mode Even if i die in the first mission to a legit problem or mistake (which is rare 9/10 times you will not know why you failed) i still have to restart the game and conplete all the early game set up with the first mechs before i get going again and that can take 20 minites on its own. Along with how little feedback you get, i still have no idea what is failing when i fail missions and i am usually wrecked by a new enemy i cant prepare for because a team wipe early game is pretty much game over so where am i supposed to run my trail and error? Even splat says access to the dev is what makes it easy for him to learn but even he isnt accurately describing whats going on here. Its a neat concept but just not a good game.

Man I remember a time we had user manuals in the game box. I would read the manual wile taking the train back home and then jump straight in. Have tutorials in games is very helpful but what I struggle with these days is I stop playing a game for a long while let's say Horizon Zero dawn, when I go back to play the game in forgfton all the buttons what the weapons do best ways too rake out the dinos. I really think big games RP, Open world games need to have a refresher mode or a way to do a tutorial without having to start a new game and go threw all the diolog and unescicary bits. I was the.pted to start a You tube change dedicated to just having quick start guide too get back in to games.

That repair system makes no sense. What do you mean the damage gets pushed from one part to all others? Do they just take the dent and pull it over to the other arm? It's nonsense thematically and from a gameplay perspective it also seems just a weird and opaque gamble to make. Did I actually end up paying less? Why does the damage to one part increase again while fixing others? This really is just quirky for the sake of it.

there's a free demo, I played it based off this video, the game is unforgivably hard The RNG aspect is partly how insubordinate your pilots are in battle, them not listening ends up getting them killed 90% of the time There's no take backs once you enter a mission and find the armour on the enemy is too tough to crack, there's a retreat button... that's assuming you're able to get to the extraction point through the enemy I had fun the first few times but the opening gets too repetitive with outfitting the mechs again for the first time every like 30 minutes If there was more save options I'd revisit the game, I understand that it's designed to be hard, but when you have such little intel on some missions it's frustrating to lose your crew due to under preparedness, under preparedness that you can't help because there's little to no usable resources of consequence given early on

What 'bugs' me is that during the battles, you can't order the mech team to form a battle formation. They're just scrambling around. Should be able to line em up and maybe do strategic reloading. Tell the devs
