Ah now I can have a 4 snaga archer battalion with 9999 in all stats, moving at 10000% movement speed that engage in hand to hand combat with Sauron as it runs circles around the poor fool

I used this video to turn Variag Swordsmen into very expensive "samurai". I just absolutely love the Khand models, and their back-banners made me want to go full "shogun 2". Thanks for putting up such an extensive and well thought out guide for doing any kind of change and tweaking, large or small. Its these kinds of guides that help people get into modding in the first place imho. Many people who have yet to dive in, just want to pick their favorite unit and change something small about them, just to see if they actually have what it takes to mod. Awesome video, bookmarked

4 AM here and im half a sleep, so when i looked at the thumbnail i though it said united states, then my mind envisioned the U.S. somewhere in the sea west of middle earth. then i thought about how we could have just nuked mordor. im gonna go to sleep now, goodnight.

An idea for a video might be to show of all the settlement battlemaps. Going through every level for every faction and custom battle maps, although the customs ones can be a separate video if necessary. It would be handy so that if you want to play as a faction you know what battlemaps are easiest to defend. Of course if certain factions have the same battlemaps you can mention thqt and you don't have to show them twice

Another great video! Hopefully the next one will be able to address an issue I've had while trying to "mod". I want to put the fort building back in, but without the "fort" units. So far it has just caused crashes! haha

Thanks for this, it will enable me to experiment with reducing elven and dwarven unit sizes, and increasing elite unit costs. Would you be willing to do a video on how to change towns to villages and how to remove city and castle upgrading?

Really helpful tutorial but your high desktop resolusion and grey background make it REALLY DIFFICULT to see what''s on screen - everything is so tiny. I definitely learned a few things i needed to know, for instance the mod i'm using has alot of speed modifications and i was unsure if i could remove those lines or not but now i actually know how they work, - also the unit priority for the AI was good to know. Thanks for the great tutorial!

Watching this gave me an idea for Harad, troll men Archers with a new arrow, heavy arrow, it would have a heavier mass

To do this you can't do it only in text editing. You need to edit the model and textures. Thus taking a bow from a unit, litterally, and paste in on the troll men model. Then edit the texture of the bow unit onto the texture file of the troll men. For this, you'll need a texture unpacking software, a mesh conversion software... What else... A DDS capable softaware etc.. And so on... I just pray Illuvatar Arachir will take some time to do a tutorial on this'... But it's the hardest part of modding, I reckon, and making a proper tuto on it would be a huge enterprise. Reason why they are no videos of it. And maybe Gallu only does text modding (script etc, which is a huge work)

Hi Galu I tested the second stat_health number by changing the stats for Dunedain Scouts and then auto-resolving the same battle vs bandits six times (standard DAC campaign vh/vh). Results 1,1 (min) - 6 losses, average 34.5 men lost 1,6 (default) - 5 wins, average 16.5 men lost 1,15 (max) - 6 wins, average 7.3 men lost Note that the auto-resolve gave a 9 to 20 power rating for every battle, so it doesn't seem to factor into that calc. It seems that it does have an impact on auto-resolves (at least for a human vs AI battle, obviously there are many more units/situations to test), which I think is interesting and leads to a further question. If it also impacts AI vs AI battles, what do you think about changing this stat for cavalry heavy nations (Rohan, Khand, Dol Amroth) to see if it helps them survive a little longer when played by the AI (and to allow human players the option to auto-resolve battles when playing those nations without such a high chance of just being slaughtered)? By the way, I love all your videos and DAC so please keep up the great work!

Really really interesting and clear video just well made. I never really dabbeld match with the stats and files in MedII or Rome eventhough the countless hours I played. But this really makes me want to try it out. I was like yeah I watch this some day for now I just watch the first 2 min and I just watched in straight until the end. So happy you are doing this as you have a really good and clear way of explaining this and well have a pleasant voice. But I still got questions what are the min_agnle and max_angle (24:14-24:35) and how do they corrolate with the range if anyone could tell me. The stat_charge_distance (30:08) says how far away from the enemy the unit will start charging but is this also the minimun distance a unit has to be a way from another unit to do a proper charge? And secondly what does the stat_food is used for, I know he said it doesn't matter but now I'm really curious. Was it just never implemented in the game or... whats it purpous. (30:14)

Hey Arachir! Would be great if you can do a video on settlement modding too. For example, I want to move population from one settlement to another to kickstart population increase and town upgrades.. but some towns are named with special characters. Where can we find the names of these settlements?

I have a question about armor upgrades and save game compatibility. I am well into a WR campaign. I have upgraded my elvenking units to their maximum armour tier (they only get one). I would like to give them a second and third armour tier. Would I need to start a new game for them to apply ?

It may be an idea to upload a new video showing how to enable borderless windowed mode/ edit the settings file, as I had to search for one of your old videos as to how to do it after i installed version 4.5! As an aside, is there any reason borderless windowed isn't enabled by default? Love the mod and your videos and thank you for everything you do for the community.

Great Video! I think the different Elves should have different recruitment times, with the High Elves having the best units, best armor, most expensive units and slowest recruitment. The Woodland Realm had the highest population and unlike the others their population actually grew durning the 3rd age and they weren't into sailing to the west, so their recruitment times should be faster, with their big weakness being a lack of heavy armor and limited cavalry, while having a ton of great archers, shock infantry and a few spearmen. The different Elven fractions should, IMO, all play a bit different. The High Elves should stay as they are, the Woodland Realm should be like I described and Lothlorien should be compromise between the 2, they already have an unique set of units in your mod. Sorry for my (not so short) rant, it was just something that I wanted to get off my chest.

What you said is kinda what the elves already are ingame.... Wood elves have the fastest recruitment. Lorien elves are a mix of the two. And Noldor are the best in everything with the longest recruitment thus having best units and dwindling numbers

Great stuff! Did you ever make a mod for Rome TW? I've created a world in my head when i was a child and even though it's not that complex, i still want to be able to play in it. A very detailed portion of the world is inspired by greek and roman culture so RTW would be a better game to try to realize it than Medieval. Does it work the same way? how comes that for some mods e.g. call of warhammer: you can edit the unit stats without breaking a savegame, while for others: planetwar and thera, this will break your save?

I want to give Templars to Byzantium (as remnants after the order's official arrest), and so far everything's succesful EXCEPT the skins of the riders, no matter which I give them, the Templars always appear as regular crusaders! The horses seem alright, the problem is with the riders only. Please advice!

@@TheKakker1970 True, but this video is on modding, ask him something on the same subject/theme....not lore anything, he has other videos for that, and the rebel armies ingame are just here to give us something to fight really,I dont believe they have anything to do with Lore... except for the Druadans units near gondor who represent tribes of middle earth, I believe there isn't much else about the rebel armies....In Med2 rebel armies usually represent historical uprisings, but here...?

I have an suggestion about the difficult of the game in general. What about this if its possible: instead of 1 War of the ring campaign there would be two. You could choose between 2 difficulties "normal" and "hard". Cause it seems like the community is divided. That some of the players "veterans" thinks DaC is too easy and needs more of a challenge and the casual and new players thinks its too hard. So my suggestion is to make normal and hard campaign. cause now there are campaigns that are too easy and some that are "too hard". I mean that if your favorite faction is one of the more easier campaigns then you are forced to pic another one to get some challenge. So point is to make all factions challenging in the "hard" version. And the normal version would be the version that is now available. But the question is that is it possible to have 2 different modded campaigns on the mod? i hope Galu that you understand what i mean. And the hard version would be like fore example the Dol Amroth campaign that is really a struggle. unless ofc you use mega cheese tactics like stack up all generals and rush Umbar like you Galu mentioned in the previews episode if i recall. Anyway how would it sound? would it be too much work. I don´t ofc have solution of how each campaign would be done more hard, but some scripts that would put the Ai attack you. and overall make the AI more aggressive or the AI would get extra stacks from time to time. But ofc not just only add stacks after stacks that would be dumb ( like you did mention in some of your video that in Vanilla med2 it was endelss grinding stack after stack). But that could be and open decision in for example discord about how to make each faction hard in its own unique way What say you?

It isn't a trait, it is an animation set and it has to be setup on a per unit basis.

Ok a quick question. In 4.5 Royal guard has the mailed horse2 mount which is actually worst than the standard eorlingas mount. Is that an oversight or an intended feature??

Finally, I can change it so that the Woodland realm actually has the best archers. I hate them being outclassed by the other elves at every tier.

Silverthorn arrows aren't outclassed by anything. Or did they get rid of them in v4 cause of how overpowered they are?

Jamaly they are there for the hin e daur. However, they do not make up for having so few arrows and against tougher units, they don't do enough against armour. Also, the unit looses to other archers because if they have armour, they can just outlast them. Finally, I find that the arrows rarely end up penetrating multiple models unless you are at close range.

@@acelennygaming They annihilate any blob and the AI likes to form blobs so they are potentially one of the deadliest units in the game. But I get what you mean, the are definitely underwhelming versus other archers at distance.

@@jamaly77 true, but the other elven archers can do that while being better all round and being able to fire fire for longer. I think the hin e daur need more arrows and an ever so slightly lower price to justify their non existent armour.

Plus, the other elves have better tier 1 and 2 archers. Lothloriens are the same price at tier 1 but have 1 more missile damage and the same stats for everything else.

Use a Trigger or give him an Ancillary or trait (create one) with +__hitpoints to general. Closest you'll get.

You have to unpack the base games files first if you are not modding a mod. A quick google search will give you the unpacking tool.
