I hope you enjoy the birds singing in the background (and I apologize if they are distracting). Shame is something we all deal with, but mostly avoid. It is common to develop anxiety as a result of our habitual avoidance of shame, something I only learned after investigating my own anxiety and the anxiety in clients I work with.
We repress shame so much, and as a result it lingers in the background and is easily triggered by life circumstances. The way to deal with shame isn't to avoid it further or rationalize it away, but instead to truly face it, welcome the experience and allow it to pass through us.
Mindfulness (Vipassana) meditation offers an excellent skillset for processing shame. It works because we are actively cultivating equanimity and clarity with our experience, and that allows us to process it effectively (with practice).
