Sully only sings songs which suit his voice, i.e. those that can be sung in a lower register. It's a good choice because he sounds good with those songs. On top of that, he's a heck of a guitar picker.

Sullivan Tuttle channeling 1980s Dylan like he lives there. And the whole band is bringing it at the top of their game. Racked for repeat cause once ain't enough. Love it! Lyrics below. Meet me in the morning, 56th and Wabasha Meet me in the morning, 56th and Wabasha Honey, we could be in Kansas By time the snow begins to thaw They say the darkest hour is right before the dawn They say the darkest hour is right before the dawn Honey, you wouldn't know it by me Every day's been darkness since you been gone Little rooster crowin', there must be something on his mind Little rooster crowin', there must be something on his mind Well, I feel just like that rooster Honey, you treat me so unkind Well, I struggled through barbed wire Felt the hail fall from above Well, I struggled through barbed wire Felt the hail fall from above Well, you know, I even outrun the hound dogs Honey, you know I've earned your love Look at the sun sinkin' like a ship Look at the sun sinkin' like a ship Ain't that just like my heart, babe When you kissed my lips?

@@geoffoconnor3487 thank you! where is that? I still can’t find it. I lived there many years. David Zimmerman (Dylan’s brother) had his office in the same building I lived in. I could see the gold “blood on the tracks” framed album on the wall through the window. I never had the nerve to walk in and talk to him. I know he was involved in making that record. I’m guessing this would have to be down in South St Paul near I 494, not far from the old stock yards?
@geoffoconnor3487
@geoffoconnor3487 4 месяца назад
@@davidpeightal4918 Hi David, I have never been to Minnesota (yet); I am Australian. It is a bit confusing, because routes and numbers of the highways have changed a few times over the years. But I think the intersection is south of the river where Wabasha Street crosses Robert Street, which is now State Hwy 3 and US 952A. Bob and David had a large country house together in the highlands of Scotland, which they recently sold.
@davidpeightal4918
@davidpeightal4918 4 месяца назад
@@geoffoconnor3487 it is hilarious to me that it takes someone from Australia to solve this mystery for me! I know that intersection of Robert and Wabasha and this makes that song even more vivid for me. There is some really great Mexican food all within a block or two of there. I have driven it in a car, a semi truck, rode bike through it and walked through it. That side of the river is called South St Paul.

Welll I dunno. A song that reached down into my musical innards all those years ago, and wouldn't let go, all because of its most powerful signature sound - that holy pedal steel guitar (that has been so surgically removed here) almost as if's religiosity couldn't stand the powder test after all. This must makes me just want to just hunt down that original like a good old hound dawg and chew on those pedals for awhile.

I can't agree with most of the comments here, I'm afraid. It's obviously all down to personal taste, and many of you enjoyed this take on the song. But for me the vocals are rather flat and sound like 'singing by numbers'. Dylan hasn't got the greatest singing voice, but at least on the original he managed to inject a bit of life and meaning into the lyrics. As for the arrangement, I thought it sounded like a work in progress, and rather ragged at times. The distortion on the fiddle didn't work for me. AJ's playing was fine enough as usual, and the use of the wah-wah was an interesting experiment. Sully is undoubtedly a very talented guitarist. But for me guitar solos are not about how many notes you can cram into them, but about the feeling you can impart through your playing. I'm all for musicians, jamming and trying out new sounds and arrangements, so full marks for that, but this version didn't hit the spot for me. PS For other versions of the song on RU-vid, which may not be of interest to strictly bluegrass followers, there is a fine bluesy rendition by Lukas Nelson and POTR. And demonstrating just how much soul can be put into the lyrics, there is an interpretation by Jocelyn and Chris.
@betsygodwin8938
@betsygodwin8938 6 месяцев назад
I agreed with you. Not into this rendition but the musicians are talented. Definitely disliked the fiddle. Quite harsh in my opinion.
@rickbouthillier4394
@rickbouthillier4394 6 месяцев назад
Personal taste is a funny thing .I think that though Dylan is one of the most gifted songwriters of our age his vocals sound like his privates got caught in a vise and my cat blows better harp than he does. I blow harp on the youtube version of howlin like a wolf by Liz Blair. Contrast my playing with Dylans and see if I am correct.
