In 1972 I was 10 years old and I was just beginning to buy 45's. My father was a very accomplished bluegrass musician and he came up to me and asked if I had heard of a new band named The Eagles. He said they would be a great band because they were a rock band that had a banjo picker (Bernie Leadon). A few years later I started buying Eagles albums and when I got On The Border he told me the story of the song "My Man" which was about the life of Gram Parsons and pointed out the words "hickory wind" in the lyrics. I have heard many versions of Hickory Wind, but I just found this one and I think it is the one that I like best.
whenever I hear this beautiful song I always think of Bernie Leadon's tribute to Gram, the Eagles "My Man". Thank you Gram for your immortal contributions to cosmic american music and to these artists for this lovely version of HW
Nothing on youtube has affected me as much as this version of the song, it is simply a jewel that i will cherish for the rest of my life........both AJ & Molly are amazing artists that i follow regularly, they just uplifted bluegrass to the 21rst century.......and I hope they will be there for a long time.!
TRUE, I am turning 89 this June, can't play like I'd love to, but seeing them fills my heart and chokes me of tears, someone is gonna be there when us Old folks leave this pretty place.
What is incredibly amazing is that I have never seen, heard anyone better than this little girl and the band and they're virtually unknown incredible talent up on that stage AJ is just incredible. 60 years old and I watch this several times a week. AJ did Here in California solo and was incredible, John Denver couldn't have done better. I listen every single day also with the Brothers Comatose great together.
Check out Something Special by AJ Lee and Blue Summit as well as To Mine by AJ Lee and Blue Summit...These are both absolutely gorgeous songs by AJ Lee and her new band Blue Summit....Also note that Sully Tuttle is also in her new band.
The vocal combination of 14 year old AJ Lee and 18 year old Molly Tuttle is one of those rare blends that has huge potential. The big stage is waiting for them.
It looks like your prediction from 11 years ago has come true. Molly and her band, Golden Highway, have gotten terrific recognition and, while AJ hasn't been quite as successful, she's getting recognized where it counts.
Got some water in my eyes just now. Man! A new favorite for me, AJ Lee, singing Gram Parsons and Emmylou also being one of my top 3 favorite female vocalist of all time. Linda Ronstadt and Eva Cassidy being the other two. This girl is perfect for this kind of music. Simply amazing.
This is an illustration of the basic unfairness of life. What are the odds that a girl with this uncommon beauty would have a voice which can only be described as perfect? Amazing.
No such thing as talent, only what you're willing to sweat and bleed for. They've each spent hundreds of hours practicing and rehearsing to be this good, it wasn't just a coincidence.
One of the best covers of Hickory Wind I've heard. They have a great feel for it, the lead vocal is particularly good, what a great voice she's got. Thank you.
I can't help myself from returning to listen to this sweet, haunting version over and over. AJ's voice was beginning to deepen here, and I love the quality and timbre of her voice on this song. As usual, Molly Tuttle does great harmony, and the Tuttles are just gifted musicians all around. I love hearing this version of this song.
i love music. No im not American,im English.... i have a fair size music collection of many kinds. That includes the Byrds albums,Gram Parsons, even John Prines first LP. etc etc. This song is great & to hear these young ladies sing this & so well. Unbelievable😎
So now in 2023... AJ Lee and Sullivan Tuttle are touring with their own band "Blue Summit". Molly Tuttle has won a Grammy! She tours with her own band "Golden Highway". Both are on their way to the top of their genre. Its no wonder The Tuttles with AJ Lee have more views on this channel than all of the other videos combined! Many thanks to Jack Tuttle for teaching and coaching them so well and to Tim Erskin for presenting them to us so early on in such a high quality manner!
It is common for different singers or groups to alter lyrics slightly. Be happy, and go with the flow. This is the best version that I have ever heard!
My favorite version ever of one of my very favorite songs. The folks that must feel honored and pleased if they have heard this must include Emmy Lou, GP, Gillian and Rawlings. The instrumental breaks are just as tasteful as the singing, and the harmonies are heart breakingly lovely. Wonderful.
@dragons gate you can't be serious!! Gram's version with the Byrds is far and away the definitive version of this song. This young lady sounds like a contestant in the 9th grade school talent show by comparison.
Stan Wollmers .. absolute garbage! Although this is not the original your comments are ridiculous. This young woman has an outstanding voice, as supported by 99% of the comments. Music, like wine is also subjective.. remember that
@@stanwollmers7561 I disagree with both of your statements. The Tuttles sound great and Gram's greatest version of this song is what appeared on Grievous Angel. The Grievous Angel version of Hickory Wind is untouchable.
This is probably the best recorded version of this song ever. It's amazing how soulful AJ's voice sounds at her young age. Just phenomenal playing all around and some kudos needs to go out to the crew that filmed and recorded this.
WOW...what can I say? I'm speechless. I was looking to download Gram Parson's Hickery Wind and saw this name AJ Lee and the Tuttles. I usually don't care for copies of too many original songs but decided to listen to this band. I was blown away at the beautiful way they sang this song. I sent several copies of this to my family and friends and they were all deeply moved as myself. Hope to see them perform in San Mateo County in May. I live in Davao now but this song is calling me home.
In South Carolina there are many tall pines I remember the oak tree that we used to climb But now when I'm lonesome, I always pretend That I'm getting the feel of hickory wind I started out younger at most everything All the riches and pleasures, what else could life bring? But it makes me feel better each time it begins Callin' me home, hickory wind It's hard way to find out that trouble is real In a far away city, with a far away feel But it makes me feel better each time it begins Callin' me home, hickory wind Keeps callin' me home, hickory wind
wow, what a tasteful version ... and the mandolins and guitar breaks perfect ... not too fancy or flashy ... just right ... love that cross pickin ... the recorders also did very well
are you kidding me? This is exactly how this song was meant to be played. I am a greater person for hearing it. Thank you so much. I will be buying everything I can find produced/created by any of the musicians involved in this project.
I didn't know Michael and AJ played so well together - until now I'd only heard one doing lead, and the other playing rhythm . They play like people who have been playing together for much longer then they've been alive.
Gram Parsons is alive and Well as his legacy lives ON Delightful version with feeling... 800 k views got to keep coming back It's the Reverence u have for this masterpiece...
I have listened to several renditions of this song on RU-vid, including the Byrds and Gram Parsons himself, and I still prefer to hear this with AJ Lee and the Tuttles! Very well done! For those who say that they look sad, so a search on the lyrics. It is a somewhat sad song, and they do put their emotions into it. Good job, all!
wow... everytime i'm impressed by these young lasses originals or covers, they pull out a song that i haven't heard done properly by guys twice their age... there is hope
AJ still sings that well, but she still had it when she was young, too. What a beautiful song, and like others have said, this might be the best rendition I've ever heard
After hearing Gillean Welch and Keith Richards mess up the lyrics in their recordings of this song, it's refreshing to hear AJ get them pretty close to the original! She's great! I'm 50 years older than her generation, but I'm a FAN!
Ok, I listened to Emmy Lou, Gillian, Gram himself, and others do this song and I still believe that this cover is best I've ever heard of this Gram Parsons song!
I just love to hear this lil young lady sing so glad she had the chance to sing with the one and only James King who"s gone on home but will forever be remembered she can sing some Bluegrass and plays very good love ya AJ Lee
Im blown away every time I hear aj sing. This song is amazeing ,the harmony of the strings and the harmony of the vocal cords. All I can say is well done
