Unfortunately at that time institutionalization of the mentally ill was very common. This was a common practice regardless of class. This is what all of society did to the mentally ill. She outlived the sister she never got to met violet by 109 years and other siblings by 91 and 87 years

It's actually quite common and it continues to this day in my own family. My paternal grandmother died at 38, her husband, twice widowed, at 65, my father (lucky dog!) despite his many health conditions, at almost 94, the longest lived of his family. My mother, who we all expected to live to 105 and bury us all, died ten years ago at only 86, but her older sister died in 2022 at 102! My maternal grandmother died at only 74, but her husband at 97 and was in great shape to the end, his sister at 95, his mother at 105. (My mother's side is known for their longevity). But my mother's other sisters died at only 80, 82 and 86, and their daughters and my cousins, two have already died at 71 each.
