If you look at the deck armor in the center of the ship, it’s 45mm and there’s barely any super structure to speak of. So if 152mm cruisers (even those with EoP) shoot at you and hit the deck armor, they will just shatter. Same with 203mm cruiser HE. So the ship is extremely protected from HE spam. The only place that cruiser HE can pen is the 32mm deck armor over the bow and stern or the minimal superstructure. The armor is great against AP and HE, so the ship is really a crazy tank.

The Lenin is based on Project 21, a draft design for the USSR Navy's desire to upgrade its fleet with new capital ships, that includes battleships. In 1935, new international challenges forced the U.S.S.R. to adjust their ship building policy, which until that point had not paid enough attention to battleships as a ship type. These changes gave the design bureaus a green light to initiate the development of a number of draft designs for battleships. In 1936, the design performance specifications were prepared. Project 21, the design for a battleship intended to operate in the Baltic Sea, was developed by the Design Bureau of the Baltic Shipyard on the basis of the provided performance specifications. These were: water displacement of 35,000 tons; a main battery comprising nine 406 mm guns; and an armor belt 350 mm thick. The draft design was ready by June. The arrangement of the ship's main turrets was similar to that of British battleship Nelson, with three turrets placed at the fore-end. The ship also carried 152 mm secondary battery guns and long-range 100 mm AA guns. The engineers applied the Italian-designed Pugliese torpedo defense system. However, the Nelson-like layout was rejected by Naval Command after heated debates due to "tactical reasons". The experience gained during the development of Project 21 was used as the basis for the "Type A Battleship" project that later evolved into the Sovetsky Soyuz-class battleship. Lenin is named after the first founder and eventually, leader of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov (AKA Vladimir Lenin).

Part of the reason Gneisenau drivers usually get close is obviously, the torpedoes the other is that the ship can't hit ANYTHING with the main guns at anything other than point blank range and even that's not a guarantee. I've put AL Scharnhorst on it with a full accuracy build and it still can't hit squat, and being German 15in, even if it does hit you'll be lucky to do much damage. I'm 100% certain Gneisenau has the worst accuracy of any ship in game and throwing all the accuracy mods, perks and inspirations at it do diddley squat. Once in a blue moon will RNG smile on it's main guns as I did get my best BB salvo out of it when I one shotted a full health New Mexico that was crossing behind an island, in and out of view of my spotter plane. At around 12km, fired a full salvo, all 6 hit and penned, 5 citadels, deleted. Just the one time though. 99 games out of 100 it can't hit a damn thing at any range. You just get so angry at not hitting anything with the guns you say F it and charge in with the torps.

I was playing my Vladivostok after yesterday’s premier and I absolutely destroyed like 15 games that I played in it all above 150k damage and I managed to see a Kii and I deleted a Lenin when he was at half health sitting broadside for some reason😂

I love the Lenin I have played about 12 games in it and I haven’t had a bad game yet. I have only ran the tank build so far, even with that It’s very accurate from about 13km. I have Lev at level 12 so might give the accuracy build a go tonight. Great vid as always!

I’m pretty sure the auxiliary room is where they would store the catapult fighters. I could be wrong though.

That 50 mm isn’t the icebreaker. That’s the bottom of the fore end. The orange strip right at the water line on the bow is the ice breaker bow.

Spartan I've been watching your videos on and off for a while but now I'll be watching more often cuz I just started playing World of Warships Legends cough cough tanks is dying.. I always appreciate your personality so keep up the great work.

Try a maneuverability build for the Lenin along with improved turret rotation. You can more easily control angles for deflection and avoid torps. For legendary skill select extra consumables. It makes for a better playing ship.

Really been enjoying the Lenin. Best game so far is 195k. Really strong on a flank or anchoring a point on the map. The sides are pretty weak but that bow is awesome and bounced plenty of Yammy shells off it.

You can use fighter plane to spot torps. Would have been great help for you at the end.

It seems to me that the passiveness of the Gneisenau’s in this match was likely the result of just acquiring them and preferring to be cautious because the Gneisenau has a limited offensive impact regarding its main guns. I know that I was very happy acquiring the Scharnhorst and later on, the Gneisenau but quickly became overwhelmed with how to use them properly in battle. I strayed away from using them until I was willing to admit that I needed to “study tape” as they say in football, and learn from those who are better seasoned than me. Of all the new ships from this update, the Lenin has quickly become on of my favorite ships, as the HMS Nelson already has. The trick is in the angling like the Richelieu or Nelson. This ship from my experience is a very good resistance to HE shells but can unleash a LOT of hellfire that would make even the Ghost Rider green with envy. In fact, it’s one of the best battleships regarding HE in the game. You can’t go wrong with that 41%.

When you were citadeled for half your health in that match...I really felt that one

Got in a match in my Richelieu the other day in Crash Zone. My team managed to throw the match to a 3v6, one cap down. Sailed through the map and demolished 3 of them. Survived because one good teammate that got close to me, so I regained health. At this point i captured one of the caps and our second one was being captured by the enemy, a Bismarck. We were 99 points behind the enemy. I killed another battleship: literally ONE point ahead. Managed to damage the Bismarck at the last second before he captured it. We won the match, more than 3500 xp and 220k damage

I heard that the deck armor on this thing is really good so basically you cant be HE spammed. You can be set on fire but in terms of HE penetrations, it is minimal. Looking back at this video you can tell you weren't getting penetrated by many of those cruiser shells

WG really needs to swap that around. MBM should be first dammit. "Vanguard hasn't discovered he can switch ammo types yet." Spartan, majority of the playerbase hasn't discovered how to do that yet. I got in a match in my Atlanta I set this ship on fire 2 first shot he damage con then I waited for but while it was still going then set 1 fire then after a few shot later another,also i was practicing for the upcoming tier 5 ranked battles so I went in my Mayan got 112k damage 8 torp hits 3 floods and 800 global xp 6000 ship xp and around 8000 commander xp with 6 kills!!!

Lenin can only be obtained by buying a few super Santa crates to bridge the needed amount of icebreaker coins (doing everything after the trials etc will NOT give you enough. Just like with the kii, buying crates to get the coins for the ship is simply not worth it.

Hey Spartan can you make a Scharnhorst Video with the Scharnhorst AL Commander and Cunningham as main inspiration and as 2ndary inspiration you can run either Ciliax, Hipper, or Di Revel for lower reload time, or JoJo for extra AP shell penetration

Every Lenin I have seen fell victim to Broadside salvo’s

I know that wargaming gets a lot of these ships from actual ships or plans for the ships, but I don’t know where they get some of these plans, like the Lenin. It’s just so different from all the Russian ships that it’s unbelievable. I guess it could be said the same for Nelson and Rodney but those 2 actually existed and honorably served.

I have a question. What is the highest citadel damage on record regarding WoW Legends for a single salvo? Or what is the highest citadel damage anyone has either given or been on the wrong end in a single salvo? I’m asking because I watched a video by Xarkun who, with a Sinop, citadel’d a healthy (broadside) Izmail with roughly 51,800 damage on one salvo, just using his front guns. The Izmail survived with what looked like 3 hit points left. This occurrence strongly reinforces what Spartan43 said about broadsides regarding Russian ships. Keep ‘em forward/angled as best ya can and as often as you can. The cool thing about the Lenin is that because of its gun placement, it trains you how to keep forward and angle.

Spartan you do realise that is says can cause 406 and less to bounce but that mean that the Japanese 410s and 419mm guns can penetrate. So the Japanese bbs can penetrate and so can the conqueror and so can the gk.

Its funny how people said the lenin sucks befor they even got it and had a chance to play it unless they played it on pc wich still doesnt mean shit. PC and console are not the same, ships are different. So those people were just full of shit and dont know how to play. Coz the lenin is indeed actually a pretty good ship if you know how to play it. Lenin is better then nelson for sure. Its a nelson with better armor and ap.
