The Ficus Benjamina, commonly known as the Weeping Fig, has been popular for decades! Though surpassed in trendiness by its big leaf brother, the Fiddle Leaf Fig, the Weeping Fig is just as worthy of Instagram fame AND a place in your indoor jungle!
The Weeping Fig has a reputation for being difficult, but once you know how to take care of it AND you leave it be, it will reward you with a canopy of glossy leaves for many, many years!
Watch as I describe the specific care needs of this elegant plant, the ‘dramatic’ way it communicates its displeasure, & common problems.

I have a Ficus Benjamina tree and I don't think that it is happy in my home. I was watering it once a week and I had it sitting in my living room where it could get some indirect sun light. I was thinking that it was not getting enough sunlight so I put a growing light on it. The leaves have been turning brown and falling off. I called the place where I purchased the tree and they told me to torn off the grow light and water it twice a week but I have been getting a larger amount of brown falling leaves. Please help me save my plant.

Good evening. Two remarks: - scientific names are writen the first name ( genus name ) starting with a capital letter and the second name ( the species name ) starting with a small letter ( example: " Ficus benjamina" ). That is the correct way. - the genus is "Ficus". Not "fic".

can you say something about pruning? I''ve got some 'leggy' branches from lack of past pruning. Don't really want to cut them now as it would leave some holes. Thank you.
@OneGreenpeaCeCe
@OneGreenpeaCeCe 3 года назад
You can definitely do some ‘beauty’ pruning! If it seems to be somewhat dormant, wait until spring. Mine is in active growth, so I would trim away! I would put the stem cuttings in water to propagate them. Once they root, you can put them back in the original pot or start a new plant.

This was such a helpful video! I have been taking care of my variegated ficus for about 6 months now. No leaf dropping! But, I'm starting to train the trunks into a braid and I noticed some WEEPING! Cause for concern or normal?
@OneGreenpeaCeCe
@OneGreenpeaCeCe 3 года назад
I would guess (without seeing) that it is a normal stress reaction. They are super finicky about being touched & moved

Question: my big ficus lost quite some leaves when i bought it, that was 7 years ago, since then it looks like a chicken that was run over by a lawnmower, it has some leaves, but it just froze, almost didn't produce new ones, looks pretty pityful. I tried watering more, watering less, moving it closer to the window, further, repotting, replacing the soil, fertilizer.. nothing. Even moving doesn't upset it anymore. It's as if it was.. depressed :D What could be the reason? How to make it grow leaves?
@OneGreenpeaCeCe
@OneGreenpeaCeCe 3 года назад
Aww! A depressed ficus is so sad! It sounds like you have tried everything & nothing is working. Have you tried propagating it? I would take several stem cuttings below a node & place in water. You may be able to get some roots to grow & can pot those up to make a new plant. Good luck!

I had a similar problem because I did not know they don’t grow new leaves where ones fell out. My Benjamin is looking so good now 2 months after cutting all the little branches that were leafless and the new ones mostly grew out where I initially cut the old one. Maybe that’s something obvious that you already tried, but since I would have never thought of that I thought it may be useful information for you, too 🙈

Thank you for this helpful and educational video ⭐️Why is it bad to mist them if they thrive in high humidity?
@OneGreenpeaCeCe
@OneGreenpeaCeCe 3 года назад
Hi Wendy! Misting is a temporary solution. You would have to mist all day 😅 and it isn’t good for the leaves to stay wet. Best way I have found to increase humidity is to group plants & have a diffuser/humidifier running nearby.

we own a mature tree that we've had for a week or so. the leaves are browning, and there are brown spots on the stem and branches. should I worry about scales?
@OneGreenpeaCeCe
@OneGreenpeaCeCe 3 года назад
You will have to look closely - scale are visible to the eye. If you don’t see small bugs, it could be a fungus.
@lena-bfirbnr7744

I could imagine the change of influences/ circumstances (light/ place/ maybe the moving itself…) was a little to much for your Ficus. Have you found the cause? I would like an update to know if it recovered. I just got gifted a huge one myself and it is looking relatively fine since I moved it here a week ago. I am still a little concerned and expecting it to get sick, I love this plant and I was so lucky to get a beautiful, big one for free. I would be heartbroken if something happens.. does someone know how long after the stress or moving it is possible to see effects?

Why is my 6’ tall ficus benjamina suddenly all it’s dropping leaves?
@OneGreenpeaCeCe
@OneGreenpeaCeCe 2 года назад
It is really hard to know without seeing the plant or where it is located. This plant is rather sensitive to change .. Has anything changed that you can think of? Temperature, watering, light? Or have you moved the plant? Do you have a cat that could have gotten into it? I would check the plant thoroughly for insects - check where the leaf connects to the stem for spider mites. Check the soil, is is excessively dry? What happens when you water - if it runs right through, the plant could be root bound & ready to be re-potted. Good luck!!
@melcirrus4284

Why should I avoid misting it?
@OneGreenpeaCeCe
@OneGreenpeaCeCe 3 года назад
It doesn’t increase humidity in any measurable way & the moisture on the leaves can lead to a fungus. Hope that helps!

what's wrong with misting?
@OneGreenpeaCeCe
@OneGreenpeaCeCe 2 года назад
Misting doesn’t help with humidity & can cause a fungal issue if the leaves stay wet.
