WaW's cutscenes with the real footage was disturbing af when I first saw it. This was my #2 disturbing moment in COD. That's what I liked about old COD campaigns, they don't give an absolute fuck about your feelings.
4:17 is probably the most haunting cod moment I have probably ever had. It's a mixture between the fact I'm alone in the room with this JFK, silent moment, then a loud as fuck noise, with sinister things happening. It's like cod turned into a horror for 5 seconds, and the sound made me jump out of my fucking seat.
As someone who suffers from intrusive thoughts, as a condition mind you, yeah. Granted most games I know don’t ever really portray it at all, but this is a good representation.
The fact Treyarch had the balls to have a scene where you point a gun at the president and they got away with it shows how nuts they were on that good campaign pack.
I know a lot of people mention 4:17 but good lord I just like this. Especially in 3:53 it shows that there’s somethings clearly wrong with Mason. He’s not himself what’s so ever. Basically foreshadowing that he’s been brainwashed and I love it. I especially love that when time slows down when JFK walks to his seat, the tv screens behind JFK show photos of the people who were involved in the assassination of JFK, even when he was in his car. Just makes your skin crawl and it makes you nervous what’s about to happen next. Even at 4:22 you hear this “woosh” sound like as if something is trying to kick into Mason to make him kill Kennedy. Honestly this Cod game has to be my favorite with Cod Bo2 and Cod WAW 2008.
@@schutzstaffel6337 Hudson (or Weaver) said he went dark for 5 years, he couldn't resist the brainwashing and killed Kennedy, then he couldn't remember it afterwards
@@Saturn-A1 That was the epilogue, showing Mason was there the day JFK was killed. Is imply in the Relevalations mission, he was probably the 2nd sniper with the phrase: "approaching Target. Oswald compromise".
3:56 from the president perspective Mason sat there with the coldest, blankest 100-yard-stare expression while locked eyes with JFK. President is probably thinking how ice cold mason is not realizing the absolute chaos going on in his mind right then.
@SouthernRebel yea your right . The government definitely took out jfk. Before he died he said something cruel about them that they were hiding something Big I wonder
No I don't think so, yeah reznov was there but reprogrammed Mason to kill dragobitch, kravchenko and Steiner. Dragovich originally brainwashed Mason to kill the president of the United States, at the time being jfk.
I love how the flashbacks glitch out sometimes. It’s like when you actually recall memories in your head but some things are out of place or appear skewed…
One of very few Call of Duty games to have a very interesting and haunting story. I hope CoD is shaped up after the Microsoft buy-out and that they focus more on war stories and campaign. It's a huge opportunity most historical shooters are missing out on. Both in fiction and nonfiction.
"We are in grave danger from the Communists. Our freedom, our very way of life is at risk." -JFK, BO1 "We are in grave danger from the Capitalists. Our collective, our very way of life is at risk." -Gorbachev, Cold War
even for a game made in 2010 the animation of the characters are still top notch. i wonder if it was mocapped or just manually animated. props to the dev team and actors
At the end of the game, if you stay past credits youll incounter the lady who says all the munbers that you hear in masons head, then see a picture of mason where JFK first landed with his spouse.. which is creepy, because the picture shown actually exists.
It’s incredible how they managed to make a scene that is essentially just walking into one of the most gripping things in the franchise. Amazing direction and writing
4:15 notice after, how the numbers stop speaking, I know it’s pretty obvious the programming was broken by Reznov, but how is it that Mason was able to still kill (or at least participate) JFK in the ending scene? Than there’s the “Oswald Compromised” part of Revelations. My interpretation of the ending is that Mason was still free of the brainwashing taking control on the assassination day, and was even present as a bodyguard, but part of the internal part that Dragovitch installed was still functioning. So his sleeper cell self was still around deep in his mind and acknowledged the compromise of Oswald (after the fact) but the physical part of mason was still in control.
Reznov is still a communist at heart, so Mason assassinating JFK had isn't something he really cared about, or that he mentioned about Mason also "being abandoned by his own superiors".
I'm pretty sure since Mason believed Dragovich, Krevchanko and Steiner were all dead, the override caused from Reznov re-brainwashing him had ended. So he was still brainwashed and had to kill JFK.
Well, it's not like Resnov intended to remove Dragovich's programming entirely. He just wanted to implement the order to kill Dragovich, Steiner and Kravchenko into Mason because he knew he couldn't do so himself.
I think a direct quote used is "added to the kill list." The programming wasn't erased, but Mason still resists it. The reason he doesn't resist Reznov's programming, is that he trusts Reznov. It makes sense that when he realises Reznov betrayed him, it stops working as well.
@@sakulyahExcept that it never stopped working, in black ops 2 when kravchenko is shown alive, the programming kicks in at full force like it never left
The fact that he's shaking when he thinks he sees his own gun is kinda sad, he's fighting it so hard and just barely manages to seperate reality from the programing
I hope Black Ops Cold War has something like this with meeting Raegan, but gets the player more involved somehow. Here, you just sit back and watch the entire level go by.
Break on Through is very similar to this, there’s a lot of weird shit that goes on in that mission. The mission has 2 distinct paths, one being more subtle than the other.
They really should remaster this game and make the models of the historical figures look more realistic. Poor JFK looks as if his eyes are swollen in this.
Bro even though this mission was pretty much a in game cutscene it is still one of the best parts of the game. This was when in 2010 people were really pushing for games to be just like movies. The whole BO1 story is like a action movies from the 2000s. But bo1 did it better because you play as Mason, Hudson, or Reznov and had a better understanding of the story and charcaters
The sound design is so good in this game but in this mission it's fucking amazing, the President scene is literally perfect imo sound design and level design seeing the imagery of his assassination behind him and ending with the haunting zombies sting. Amazing.
It's scenes like this that the new generation of COD have lost. This one scene, the whole BO1 story even, was chilling. It added characterization and personality to the games individually. It was never afraid to get dark af. And not the classic, "oh no you just shot a civilian, what's wrong with you?" It wasn't afraid to be dark and chilling in regards to it's story and overall narrative. Each game felt different and unique. BO2 was just as good as this one story wise imo, for completely different reasons. Black Ops Cold War was a step in the right direction (kinda), but it still doesn't even come close to the old COD. One of the things I liked about it so much is that you remain in 1st person during a lot of the important cutscenes. It may seem like nitpicking, but I'm not a huge fan of zooming out of 1st person and it turning into a cinematic during a mission. A petty gripe, I know, but one I'm passionate about lol. It just ruined the immersion for me personally. I haven't been very satisfied with any COD stories since Waw, the old BO games, the old MW games, and believe it or not, Ghosts. I'm not a huge fan of the protagonist not talking in Ghosts, but meh, the story made up for it. Ww2 wasn't bad now that I think about it. The new Mw2 was okay and pretty fun, but it just lacks the story elements that these ones have. At least in my opinion lol. Forgive my ranting, I just needed to get this out after watching this😭
Ghosts’s was so badly written. The dialogue is so bad. Pacing was shit. The writer went on to write 2020’s dolittle which was godawful. It’s got some concepts. But the execution of the story was dogshit.
@@oksomynameisjeff4212 no he didn't. The only VA that sounds close in Cold War is the one who played Woods, and it's still not the greatest. You have low standards. Or I have high standards. That Ronald Reagan was pretty spot on tho.
i always wished this and the rest of the black ops games had scenes like this it adds to the lore and world building since alot of black ops story is still unknown
(4:18) I had nightmares about this part when I was younger, just that loud screeching sound along with that deep guitar chord, it’s haunted me for years.
