As soon as she brought up that Dave-vs-Metallica issue, the whole atmosphere of the interview changed. Metallica starting playing in the EXACT second did not help at all.
Yeah, it definitely seemed like his mood changed and was uncomfortable when the Metallica subject came up and especially when The Ecstasy of Gold started playing in the background. He always says he’s over the whole Metallica thing but he still talks about it to this day. Can’t really blame him though, living in the shadows of a successful metal giant you used to be a part of and blew it because of your alcohol issues and playing a catch up game only to come up short no matter what.
@@chrisguthrie3082 I get this to an extent but at this point he should be long over it. I mean he has had a super successful career in megadeth and has nothing to apologize for so to speak. He has alot to be proud of. Instead of trying to compare to metallica popularity and sales wise he should just be thankful he was able to bounce back with another all time great band despite being kicked out when many others in the same situation would have ended up in the gutter and or dead somewhere. He is very fortunate considering the circumstances.

At the end of the day I think it was better for Dave that he wasn't in Metallica at that time. They were going way more commercial than he would've been able to put up with.
You can literally see how heartbroken he is when ecstasy of gold starts playing, hes not even close to pay attention to the interview, Junior really showed how great he was continuing the interview and answering all the questions i think he felt that tension asap. Mustaine really kid himself back then saying hatchet was buried maybe it was buried but his feelings was still involved megadeth is like that rebound girlfriend where you pretend you are in love with the person but everytime you get the slightest reminded of your ex you get sad and pissed and feel like shit and want to disband the rebound. If you ask me it's only inside the last 12 years he really moved on and buried the hatchet when he was attending to the big four show.
Exactly what I was going to write. Metallica was that ex gf he took for granted and dump him. She ended up becoming a extremely famous superstar with a better bf. She feels bad for him and want him to stop obsessing over her. She moved on and wishes he could too but cant. She wants to remain "friends" but really wants him to go away. It just makes Dave more obsessed.It truly was a bitter romantic breakup

It took big balls to be in Dave Mustaine shoes. From devastated state of mind when your dream life ripped off you through years of heartaches and agony without a proper apologies while fighting to stand on your own foot because music is the only your passion and the whole world mocking at your efforts. And yet he forgave them. Imagine what kind of big man he is.
Dave has been through some nasty shit. Can't imagine how hard it was for him to be in this position, witnessing Metallica at its peak after so many years of unresolved pain. His hard fought battles with mental health and substance abuse certainly didn't help either. I may not know him personally but I do empathize with him and I'm glad he's overcome his demons
When Ecstasy started playing I didn't see Dave as angry or bitter, I saw it as the same as some bands I've been in when listening to those songs, a "what could have been" feeling
Nah. He was definitely bitter and heartbroken about it. You can't tell his heart was racing a thousand miles per hour. He stood quiet after hearing that and his face buried behind his finger with a thousand mile stare. I know that look.
Poor Dave. I feel so sorry for him talking about how the hatchet was buried and then he just zones out when 'Ecstasy of Gold' comes on. He blew his chance of being in the biggest band in the world BUT he made a ferocious comeback and he has made a fortune from his living as a musician. So many bands never get that chance.
I kind of feel bad for Dave as Metallica's music is playing. Even though he was kicked out because of his own demise, he's still seems so sorry for how he acted.
If Dave Jr could predict the future he would say. We are going to cut our profitable tour with Pantera short, Mustaine is going to get us kicked off the Aerosmith tour and pretty much continue to blow the momentum we had going for us.
Oof! Poor Dave! This interview was difficult to watch. When Metallica start you can see Dave starting to crash. It's like turning up to a party and seeing the ex you still have feelings for hooking up with their new squeeze.
Watching how hurt dave was was really sad and heartbreaking to me it reminds me of the heartbreak I had to go through. When I was in foster homes and I come home on home visits when I have to go back to foster homes when my home visits were over I have to hide the pain I don't believe his hurt was over he just didn't want to bad mouth anybody we love u dave megadeth is way better than metallica anyway

when he talks about how hard the life on the road is and how lonely it was for him, you can clearly see that his relationship with his bandmates was nothing than a professional one, not even based on friendship.

I used to sympathize with Mustaine in this interview like everyone else but now, why? Mustaine deserved everything he got, the kick out, the turmoil, the lack of success. He was his own worst enemy with the drug use, inconsistent line ups and insufferable attitude. He deserves to see what he could of accomplished had he not fucked up, it was a reality check more than anything.

Heck, months prior to this show he was literally pronounced DEAD after overdosing from Valium. I can't imagine how hard it must've been for him to witness Metallica at its peak after so many years of hardships, struggles and unresolved pain
Just a note on this as I come back to this video quite often. Obvisously nobody is a mind reader about how Dave is feeling, but I don't think he starts being distant because Metallica is playing and he wishes he was still with them. He was kicked out 10 years before this. It is most likely because she asks a dumb question about him playing on stage with Metallica, then they start playing during a Megadeth interview which he knows is going to be broadcast on MTV worldwide. It was a terrible decision by MTV to just interview them that close to the stage in the backstage area where you can not only hear Metallica but you can even make out clearly what song is being played. They could have interviewed them inside the dressing room, but chose not to. Very stupid.
Yeah that was kinda petty on MTV'S part to do that 😂😂😂 They could've interviewed them anywhere else but close to them playing to where the music kinda overpowered their interview.

Yeah man that prank was really fucked up. I lost a little respect for Metallica for that and the way they treated Jason Newsted, they were for sure huge fucking pricks back then that thought they were the greatest thing since sliced bread and that their shit didn't stink. Im glad they've all come back down to earth since then, especially Hetfield.
