Dave Mustaine is a genius musician but this "spider chord" is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. It's just using your pinky and middle finger instead of your index and ring finger (and alternating between them) to play power chords. It isn't an invention of any sort nor is it even used in 99% of Megadeth's catalogue. Just a section in "Wake up Dead". It’s like holding your pen between your middle finger and thumb instead of your index finger and thumb and calling that an invention. Dave shows the dumbest things when he demonstrates guitar when in reality there's so much complex stuff that he and his band do which he never touches on. It'd be great if he talked about how he came up with the beautiful arpeggio at the beginning of Good Mourning/Black Friday or how he phrases his riffs. But he never does that. Probably leaves that for the paid songwriting courses he puts up for Megadeth fans. He's an astute businessman.
He grew up listening to a lot of Latin guitar music, so he probably picked it up from there. Just recreated it for himself by ear most likely - impressive for a musician. @@ogrish76
Well kiko is a very good guitar player. If he said anything about Chris Broderick being bad, the press would go apeshit. Pretty smart move if you ask me.
Chris’s problem was he is too technical. Technical players know how to play everything, knows the guitar in and out, they lack feeling though. That’s what Marty has was feeling.
melissa laughlin I’m pretty sure he kept saying bass player was to keep it easy for the audience and interviewer to follow along because I doubt half of them know his name is Dave Ellefson
@@11DNA11 that might be believable with any other band and a guy who didn't fire half the band every album. He obviously has a bad relationship with bandmates.
@@RoughGFX dave said that in a interview that he is friends with lars and James. He said he makes friendly jokes but media sees it as hate to metallica and vice versa
@@RoughGFX yes I just heard dave mustaine say that they're friends and that they like each other now on the "Dave Mustaine Show" on the Gimme Metal App.
Kiko is clearly an amazing guitar player. But even more impressive to me, Kiko is the most likable guitar player. He's humble beyond belief and treats everyone as his equal.
lol...I really doubt he wanted to leave (unless he had something seriously important that came up which he needed to do). Matt Pinfield is a pro at interviewing, and is a fan who absolutely loves and appreciates metal music. It's probably just the way he's sitting and fidgeting around that makes it seem that way. I feel about 99% sure he's happy to be there sitting with Dave Mustaine.
This just goes to show that guitar playing is not all about complicated solos, or who can play the fastest. A lot of the best songs ever written, not just Metal, are only three or four chords and simple to play. Wake up dead is in my top five Metal songs ever. It's an absolute classic. I love to see Megadeth play this one Live. Its great to see Dave demonstrating this great riff slowly. He's one of my fave guitar players ever, simply because of his ability to write all these beautiful riffs, and create awesome songs. Fantastic !!
I've met him a few times including spending time with him in Sydney after a show in 2001. He was kind, giving of his time and really sweet. It was difficult for me not to go into fan boy mode (which I didn't, thankfully); rather, I spoke to him in kind and it was a nice, natural conversation without pretence. Yes, Dave is a really nice guy.
Wake Up Dead was the very 1st Megadeth song i ever heard back in 86. When that's the first Megadeth song you ever hear, you will instantly become a fan for life!!!!
mine was technically crush em...i was into WCW wrestling and goldberg used it has his intro theme,i loved it i delved into megadeth after that. it was the 90s and i lived in a roman catholic family and my dad was more into boomer rock like aerosmith and styx which i like but metallica was after his time so i never got exposed to it before that point.
"I, Dave Mustaine, invented life as we know it and the cosmos" "So you invented AIDS, crack babies, cancer, totalitarianism, pedophilia, and nu metal?" "... .... ...No that was Kirk"
I know he lives in my area of Tennessee, I know a dozen people who have seen him. I know exactly which puckett's he's been to and I still haven't met him XD every time he mentions an area in TN i die a little inside.
He's sick now, but he organizes group Metal session where he invites total unknown to his ranch to play guitar in group...You should look into that, it looks crazy fun. I live in Québec, TN is too far. If I'd be near I'd totally go. Search Megadeth Boot Camp here on RU-vid. Dream come true for lucky bastards. Lolll :P
That's quite an honor to be considered by Dave to be the best guitar player he's ever played with. He's always so critical of musician he ever talks about
Yep, true...I literally just uploaded vintage DAVE on Mtv Epiphone Revolver Golden God interview...NEVER on YT! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8H0JnqdjdlY.html
Dave is no different than 90% of the guitarists I have worked with in the past. Drunk, Belligerent and a smart ass. However, talented as hell! It's one of those work related issues that most bands unfortunately must deal with until they grow up. I personally found that the ones that were holier than thou, were boring, robotic and had absolutely no personality whatsoever. His ability to write kick ass songs, is "almost" enough to look past. Hell, we all drank to excess too so it's not like we could cast stones, right? Keep on killin' it Dave! Metallica is who they are, Megadeth is who they are... To each their own!
Matt pinfield does the best interviews hands down because he knows his shit. the man is a music dictionary all types all times all styles from rap to rock to top40 he knows it all
Mustaine siempre siendo humilde aunque sepa que es un Dios de la guitarra el siempre quiere darse entender que hay mejores guitarristas que el!! =D también muy chistoso, gran ser humano
Sometimes I still have this naive belief that Dave would go through one interview without mentioning his part in Metallica. Classic Dave, but I still truly think he's a brilliant guitar player and songwriter. Megadeth are awesome 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I saw that tour and got a signed drum head from Chris Adler! Lamb of god is my favorite and Chris was their drummer! Suicidal was supposed to play that night but someone’s mother passed away, I think... Death Angel rules!
It's a musician joke. Every band I've gone to jam with calls the bass player "bass player" it's the joke itself lol an old one at that 😉 we call our drummer "hey drummer" he answers every time, man
DAVE IS A SICK GUITAR PLAYER....HE IS AMAZING......GR8 GUITAR PLAYER.......MEGADETH IS A MONSTER BAND.....WITH KIKO LOUREIRO AND CHRIS BRODRYCK(EX-MEGADETH GUITARIST), THE BAND IS STILL ROCKING THE WORLD.
Elzio Martins maybe it's your opinion that Kikos the best. I think that title belongs to either Chris or Marty for obvious reasons. You can find video of Dave saying Al pitrelli is the best guitarist, you can find video of him saying Glenn drover is the best, you can find video of him saying HE is better than all of his guitar players. That's whats annoying. Can't respect someone like that, closest example is Richie Blackmore. Dudes a total asshole and had to the nerve to say Joe satriani is a soulless player. Dave and Richie have the same asshole egos. That being said.... Megadeth is my favorite band and I'll never not listen to peace sells--youthanasia.
I'm not saying this because of dave, I actually agree with you about him. But I think you're looking only what Chris and Marty did on megadeth. They did a fantastic job for sure, but if you look at kiko's background and everything that he's done before megadeth maybe you'll understand why he is the best for me.
Elzio Martins well I'm not saying he's a piece of shit player I'm just saying. When it comes down to it I enjoy Marty's stuff with Becker (Becker is the best of all time) I really enjoy Marty's scenes album. I enjoyed Chris Polands ohm with Nick just vastly more than Kiko and it's just how it is for me. I'll say that Kiko is A MILLION times better than Chris Broderick...and Glen and Al and jeff
Just go for it man. Get a cheap Jackson (very metal, and great quality for the price. Dave also used Jackson in his prime) and learn some thrash. Exactly what I did and I've really been enjoying it.
Great interview; it's incredible how hardship & at odd situations can come up with the Greatest results. #DYSTOPIA is a brilliant well succeeded Album, I can't be prouder that my homie KIKO LOUREIRO is in MEGADETH & I'm pretty sure their next opus will be their heaviest. Let " DEATH by DESIGN " come! ✊
You must be new to the genre and used to podcasts where they constantly talk over one another. It would explain why you don't recognize seasoned professional Matt Pinfield who has been involved in this type of thing since the early 80s and knows when to let the person he's interviewing talk/perform.
he's a douchebag who was host of a show on MTV that he had no business being the host of. when Limp Bizkit was huge he was on a hidden track on one of their more popular shitty albums and he GOES OFF about how fake rock is and how Limp Bizkit is the real deal. yea. Limp Bizkit. the real deal. he didn't just slightly miss the target on that one...
@@CynHicks It's a great & valid point. Part of why I adore Dave on guitar is confidence. Most is sheer skill but how to keep it that way after years without that level of confidence & pushing yourself continually forward. A shrinking violet shrinks away.
Marty is a great guitar player and one of my favorite in Megadeath. However he has gone off on the deep end with his playing style now. I can't even listen to it.
Twobarpsi I don't particularly care for Metallica OR Megadeth. Just stating a fact. Metallica would not have been as successful if Mustaine had stayed on as their guitar player. He can't get along with anyone so it was inevitable that Metallica would have fired him. Personally I think Slayer is better than both of them because they stayed true to their sound unlike Metallica and Megadeth who have put out a lot of shitty and boring music over the last 25 years or so.
@@CelestialWoodway have you actually listen to later megadeth albums like Endgame, The System has Failed, 13 or Dystopia? Far better than anything slayer has put out post 2000. And Slayer is repetitive, very repetitive.
Dave's "spider chord" has been legendary since 1988 in case you didn't know. Funny part is that we were all using the technique already. It relies on lots of saturation to work and it isn't actually a chord. In case you're wondering. History is written by victors. Don't forget it. Lol...Dave is a legend BECAUSE he knows this. Dave "the f'ing victorious" Mustain!
