You are correct. The remaining ticks of the first explosive shot are now added onto the first tick of the new explosive shot. Has been like that since mists hit. It's in the 5.0 patch notes, for those that don't believe me.

I also play a hunter as my main and did some testing on this thing. If you spam Explosive Shot you get 8 out of 9 ticks, cos ES DoT has a max duration of 3 seconds, and each hit adds 2 seconds. So if you want all 9 ticks out, ideally, you would do ES>ES>AS(1sec)>ES.

Yep. You are right I main a hunter and explosive shot ticks work the same way as ignite ticks etc, they combined with each other so no damage from ticks is lost. so spamming explosive is fine. This change has been in since the start of MoP. Leion is right.

No, it actually stacks the way Ignite or whatever does - reapplying Explosive Shot while it's already active won't extend the duration, but instead reset Explosive Shot and roll in the remaining damage of the current Explosive Shot and divide it into the new one. For example, 60 damage per tick ES refreshed after one tick = 100 damage per tick for the "new" three ticks. Total damage is the same.

(Please read if you like boss stories) :D This might explain why the boss looks like it does: The boss is a hydra, cursed by Lei Shen himself and left under his temple with it's body stuck under the ground. The hydra was a failed experiment by Lei Shen, that's why he abandoned it. Now we all know the legend about hydras... If you cut a head of, two new will spawn. And that's why a new head spawns when you kill one during the boss fight :)

Yes there is. More starsurge procs from moonfire/sunfire crits. Not sure if it'd be overall worth it, though.

You should use your Lock and Load procs as soon as possible, generally. They "fixed" the problem of overlapping Explosive Shots, so you get the full damage even if you clip the shots.

Actually, only the last tick is added to the new dot duration. So you do need to weave a little. You can run your own sims / dummy runs if you don't believe me. Explo - explo - arcane - explo, or explo - arcane - explo - explo will maximize your explosive shot ticks.

The arcane shot weaving for SV died at the end of cata with the mop changes. you get more dps out of spamming explosive shot. My main is a SV hunter and I spam it and the ticks go from 40k to 60k when i spam it or higher if I have agility procs up.

Sometimes but not always. Depends how large the ground effect is. For example, you can jump over small lines, like the poison lines on the first boss in Zul'Gurub. But everything bigger; I don't recommend it.

usually not, unless they are specifically designed to be jumped over. Otherwise a priest with levitate would never take any ground effect dmg...(like with the disruptron fight until it was fixed)

Explosive Shot works differently. You used to have to weave Arcane Shot between Explosive Shot, but you don't need to anymore. Don't go to a training dummy and bitch about losing one or two ticks. The damage of Explosive Shot is the same, but it rolls over into the next dot. The only time you want to weave Arcane Shot now, is when you're at, or close to being focus capped.

We attempted this boss maybe 10 times with 3 healers (1 disc priest, 1 holy paladin, & 1 resto druid) then tried with 4 (added a resto shaman with resto offspec) and one shotted it. I guess I recommend trying this comp if you're group is struggling too often near the end of the fight where healing is so very intense.

My guild just beat this boss after wiping a lot. We started with the GRGRGRG strat, then we went on to the GRBRGRG strat. But after 2 days of wiping we decided to try to go for BRBRBRB, and we killed it with ease.

It's a hydra, usually hydras have 3 heads, if you kill one it re-grows 2 heads.

yea they said they did but if you try it on a dummy, 3 straight explosive shots versus the weaving with arcane you lose one tick from it

My guild has been doing Green, Red, Green, Red, Green, Red, Blue. You can kill Green last instead (since the fight ends when it goes down, it doesn't matter because it never does its back row abilities), but we feel sorry for the Blue head, not really being in the fight, so we involve him at the end.

They have changed the dot mechanic in MoP, so you refresh it, and you don't loose ANY damage from doing this.

That depends on haste too, cause if your haste is too high your explosive shot might fall off fast and you'll lose the ability to stack it. I don't play a hunter, but I play a warlock and our dots falling off costs us a lot and our haste can either fuck us or help us so I figured this might have some merit to hunters as well.

Keep in mind that leaving the Frost Head up will put stress on your healers. More Venom Heads that die means more Acid Rain.

Why dont you just kill the frost head once so you can clear the fire from the ground with the frost beam the head in the back casts? Would that not make the room more clear of stuff you cant stand in?

Druids have insane heals too, your druid should focus more on using frenzied regen in this fight then using his dodge on the red head and should use his dodge when tanking the green head. When he's tanking blue it doesn't matter which he decides to use as it's debuff doesn't matter until it reaches 5 stacks, our group is 4 healing it so we are a dps down and still killing it before it reaches 3 so i can't imagine ur heals have it too bad.

the way we did it the first time was green - red repeating however the 2nd time we had less well geared healers and so it was alot easier to do blue red blue red green red green

Not a hunter player. But I don't think the old Explosive - Arcane - Explosive weaving matters now. Blizzard changed how DoT mechanics work at the start of MoP. TLDR, means the last few ticks stack.

How do the acid bolts hit ~80-130k to those just outside the "vortex"? Our megaera did ~250k damage if you were that close to it.

Please please please start releasing full kill videos the way Tankspot did. Do the guide, and at the end just leave the full fight footage with some music or something. I really want to see the entire fight with this strategy before my raid tries it tomorrow, but no kill videos with is seem to exist.

Can someone in contact with the PoV hunter tell him not to spam his explosive shot btw ? :P for his own good , i mean i dont even play a hunter but thats the only thing i know from them . U must not spam that button cause it overwrites the current dot and u lose the seconds from it , cast arcane or cobra shots until the dot ends then refresh , or even do it at a different target for more dps

Actually this is a hydra therefor, it could've started with three heads and once you killed on it was replaced by two others. I'm basing this logic off of the Greek mythology of the Hydra :)
