Today we're looking at how Ultimate Paste Wax and Ultimate Liquid Wax compare. Both are the same price and each claims to be Meguiars' "most advanced wax ever" - so which one should you go with?
As always I wash the car first and give it a quick compound with Meguiar's Ultimate Compound to ensure we're working with a bare paint surface. This ensure each wax adheres to the paint properly, and also prevents any old waxes interfering with the test results.

The liquid one lasts a really long time. Really good stuff . It will not leave marks on trim .

Paste is meant to be applied by hand and the liquid is for machine with a soft pad. Also the liquid bottle erase the risk of dirt getting in the wax itself

Liquid can get on trim. Paste cannot. Just pointing out another difference.

Liquid wax is for orbital polisher and paste wax for hand applications IMHO

I like this video a lot. I use this paste on everything and absolutely compared to the liquid the pace definitely gives a a glassy glow over its liquid sibling. The camera in this video even catches that glow in like the last 2 minute viewing

I am a carfreak and always used Autoglym products. Used UHD wax the last few years, till I tried the Ultimate Paste Wax. And, I must say, it beats Autoglym BIG TIME!!!! It less expensive, the shine is WOWWWWWWW, it comes off easy.... Its just the best wax ever.... Only one big disadvantage for me, being asthmatic, Ultimate Wax just smells horribly!!! So, best to use outside and not inside garage..... It really smells like chemical/ petroleum-like stubstance. Great video!

I thought the audio was fine. I am more of a fan of liquid wax because if you don’t clay your car you can put contaminants back into the paste wax from your pad.

That's a very good point. I always try to make sure my car is extremely clean before I start waxing it, but my pots of paste wax all have little specks of stuff in them and I have no idea what they are. I always dig these little specks out with my finger nail before I start using the wax on my car just to make sure I don't damage the paint.

Hey man, I’m going to guess from the buildings that you’re in either south or west Glasgow? I’ve recently bought one of my bucket list cars - an Alfa Brera S. It’s 10 years old and red so he paint has seen better days! Wanted to buy a machine polisher to give it a good working with ultimate compound and a good polish but living in Shawlands there’s no way I can get anywhere to plug in a polished. Bit of a long shot but if you’re up for a challenge video I have a beautiful car in need of some TLC and could provide some tools and products to see just what they can do. Let me know if you’d be up for it

I feel ya. I just did my old car, You might have to do it yourself. Get a pack of microfiber towels, Meguire's Clay Bar Kit, Ultimate compound and Meguire's liquid wax. and go for it! It looks so much better.

The liquid wax is supposed to not dry completely to make it easier to buff off...

Thanks for this comparison. I use ultimate liquid wax on my Black Jag, and I sometimes find it frustrating when taking it off. Once it all runs out, I'll be buying the paste wax as per your recommendation. 👍

I would actually skip the Ultimate was and use their newer Hybrid Ceramic Wax. I really like the spray version in the blue bottle. It lasts longer and it’s so much faster and easier to apply.

I think liquid is better because it wont whiten black trim and if you have a DA polisher you can use it with the liquid wax.

I've done a little bit more experimenting since I put this video up and I agree with you. If you've got a DA polisher then the liquid wax goes on and wipes off much easier. I probably wouldn't use it by hand again - Ultimate Paste Wax is better for hand application I think. I might do an updated version of this video showing these differences.

Good video I heard you very well. I went with the liquid wax as it does not turn plastic trim White not sure if the paste wax does the same but it is something that would have been great to mention in the video. Thanks for taking the time to share this video

Glad I could help! Train staining is a big issue on some cars - especially one like my Mini where there's just so much black plastic. As long as you wash and wax your car fairly regularly then there's really not a huge difference in the result you'll get between these products./

I ran the hose from the back court through the close and out the close door. My neighbours weren’t very happy about this setup 😆 Eventually it dawned on me that I could just drive the car up the back lane which gave easier access to the hose.

I think the liquid wax is better from experience also bilt hamber’s paste wax is better maybe compared to this paste wax not sure

It may sound daft, but if you are targeting people new to detailing how about a video showing difference between spraywax and a proper paste/liquid wax. This would highlight what each is meant to do and how spraywax isn’t the same as a proper waxing....

Great idea. I had thought about including the Ultimate Quik Wax in my latest video comparing Ultimate Paste Wax and Ultimate Liquid Wax, but I felt like I didn’t have enough room on the panel. I think for my next video I’ll use the roof panel to compare Ultimate Quik Wax and Ultimate Paste Wax, unless there are any alternative products you think I should use? I have AG Rapid Aqua Wax and AG HD Wax which I could use to compare.

A helpful tip would be to apply in straight lines to avoid swirl marks. The only thing that should be applied to your cars paint in a circular pattern is polish. On glass however you should use circular patterns for everything (cleaning, claybar, and wax) because you cant leave swirl marks on glass. Edit: I should also mention a liquid wax wont haze up when its ready to come off like a paste wax.

Good point about the liquid wax not hazing! I only learned that after I made this video - I think I really need to make a new version of this video highlighting all the stuff I've learned about these two products.

Doesn’t matter, swirls are not caused by circular motions, they’re caused by rubbing contaminants into the paint.

No, the liquid wax went on one side, the paste wax on the other. I compounded the entire hood first to ensure any old wax and contaminants were removed.

Details I think what he is saying is after you washed the hood it looks like you put the liquid wax on the whole hood, then you did the test!

I am still alive! I started a new job and the weather has been rubbish so I haven't had much time to make videos but I'm going to start making some more this summer. Is there anything you'd like to see me make a video about?

@@palleh7742 I actually recorded a follow-up to that and never got round to posting it 🙈 The result was that three weeks later with just regular washing, it was performing basically the same as day one, and there was no chattering or skipping. I'll post the follow up video soon!
