you actually followed the right procedure, those look fire and will definitely last you a long time looking good!! I did my original cateye 05 Silverado and man the look is just incredible. No amazon cheap imitation compares to the original quality of the factory lamps, I've tried a few, but kept the originals in a box. I see people throwing away the yellowed-out ones right after they get the ebay knockoff, and man If they only took some time to sand away the oxidation and spray them with the right coating, they would save money and keep the best looking sets for their car. When I did mine I forgot to polish with a compound, so if in 6 months or so if I see any haziness poking thru once the coating begins to fade then I'll polish before I reaplay. That's what happened to that other guy here on youtube who went straight from Plastix to Coating, no sanding whatsoever, and the yellow came back because he never removed it in the first place, just hid it under the fresh clear coat, and he was kinda blaming the product for the yellowing after 6 months..... So I think because I wen't from 3000 grit to coating, and no polishing, once the coating goes the haziness from the 3000 scratch marks will let me know that the clear is fading and it's time to reapply.
I dont understand why it only lasts one year? New headlights stay looking new for at leadt 5 years. What coating do they use from the factory , and why not just use the same as that?
I think they are just covering their asses buy putting short time frame on there. I am coming up on exactly 1 year since I sprayed these and they still look really good.
I've used the Meguires headlight coating on my 2005 Honda Pilot headlights. It looks great and far clearer than before I did all the sanding and polishing, with Headlight Coating as the final step. One drawback is that the coating leaves the surface a little bit rough, so it attracts condensation in the morning, much much worse than before. Need to polish with a hydrophobic polish?
I can't say I've noticed that with my Ranger headlights. I would possibly try applying the coating in a little cooler temperature and maybe a little heavier so it will flow out a little better. Also I think it helps to have the lens as flat as possible as in spray them off the car.
