My car is 14 years old and the headlights are so cloudy that sometimes I wonder if the lights are even on. Well that is about to change. My dad gave me the Meguiar's Headlight Restore kit. Lets get this applied and see how well it works on my old car.

I've used Meguiar's since the 80s. Meguiar's #5 has been a long time favorite.

I cleaned the headlights on my 2007 Honda pilot 2 years ago with mothers mag polish and then applied the mothers spray on ceramic coating once a year. Still looks new. I am sure other brands of ceramic coating polish work just as well. Once a year no polishing just buff it on with a cloth towel and you are good for another year.

I think the coating spray is key, the UV rays need to blocked off or the lens will yellow again, elbow grease and sanding is good to get it off but you need that coating so it will last longer

Plus if wax or ceramic coated the spray coating would last longer

After washing the car it is the same? The spray contain oil? You can put just a litlle oil on, and that's it🤔🙂

Thank you for a concise video, brief intro and you went to work, the way a DIY video should be done ☑️ I read reviews that said the overspray left a film on the car that couldn’t be removed. I assume that wasn’t the case for you since you didn’t mention it.

Thank you for watching. I did not see any kind of oversprey but then again my car is very old and may not be noticeable. This process lasted well for about 8 months and then started getting cloudy again.

@@LandtoHouse thanks for the update. I just finished the job, it looks great! I just put a sheet over the hood. I have enough leftover for a second job in the future. It’s an 11 year old car with over 110K miles. No sense spending the money to replace them. Thanks again.

Did you use the harsh grey side of the pad? Did it leave any noticeable scratches on your headlights?

I've used it many times and it lasts like 10 months I'd say. But u can use the product maybe 3-4 times before running out.

If anyone needs a quick fix, bug spray with at least 30% deet and a cotton rag will get a lot of yellow off. Haven't found a household clearcoat yet though so it will yellow again, but should stay clear for a while.

That's very interesting. I never heard of using that in this type application. Keep the bugs off while you're at it.

Just use meguirs 7 polish and a buffer. It works just fine.

Only problem I’ve found with those types of kits is that in a year or less you’ll be fogged up again and/or in my wife’s case, the clear coat will start peeling off. Much cheaper than purchasing new housings however. 🙂

I figured the same thing. If it peels off in a year I will do it again. For a car that is 14 years old I'm not too worried about it.

I'm not sure what's in the cleaning chemical but I tried to use wet sanding with a Dremel tool and it was less effective than this stuff.

Even if you did use a wet sand etc you would still want to put on a sealer/clear coat of some sort. Just using an abrasive would turn yellow in a few months if not weeks I would imagine

My headlights weren't nearly as bad. Went thru the entire 1st stage process several times but after much scrubbing, wiping and drying, my lights look more cloudy than before I started. Never even applied the spray coating.

The spray is the main part! It seals in the buffer.

The Meguiar's "Heavy Duty" Headlight Restoration Kit instead of the Meguiar's Headlight Restore kit could have been better. However, it was a great gift so you're lucky.
